No matter how preeningly narcissistic the couple may seem, surely even they must now have realised what the source of their woes is? The fact is: people were only interested in hearing what Harry and Meghan had to say when they were dishing the dirt on the royal family.Hence, in January last year, the record-breakingly vast sales of Harrys memoir Spare. with all its eye-popping claims about his brother, father and stepmother. But every time he, and Meghan, start talking about any other topic – be it sport, jam or social justice – the world turns off. No one cares. Now that the Sussexes have finished flogging all the family secrets, they’ve got nothing that anyone wants.

There is part of me that does feelsorry for them too. I mean 2024 has been a disaster, off the back of 2023 which was another disaster. It’s not going to get any better. Reap what you sow, so we knew it was coming their way but it’s all a bit sad and pathetic now. The faux tours, cards from ‘the office of’, as time goes on, the more pathetic that will look because they have lost all connection to the Royals

This must be their year of reckoning. He won’t win his cases, they will lose Netflix, the brand will face further set backs, they realise that their kids will never have a royal Christmas at Sandringham or summer at Balmoral, ever. In fact they are unlikely to ever meet the King again.

Its all came off the rails. We all knew it would happen. Many could even see the disaster impending from the engagement announcement. But it’s still hard to watch and that’s what makes me feel a bit sorry for them.

Prepared to be flamed! 😬

The bee's without gloves is particularly ridiculous

I know sod all about bee keeping, but thought it looked a bit odd - because even though she was scraping off the honey (no actual bees in sight) she was wearing rings set with stones. Surely you’d take those off before doing something that gloopy?

I've only seen a still from the bee shot but am I right in thinking she's not wearing a protective hood too?

Struck me as odd when I saw it.

Well only if you were that stupid to leave the money sitting in a bank account doing nothing. No doubt there will be morey invested making a good return given the amounts that will be. So the money will go further, don't think mayone needs to worry about them running out of it.

You would hope so because in ten years time those costs will have risen too.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/01/2025 20:09

If he has so much money why did he need a mortgage ?

If he has so much money why did he need a mortgage ?

Wasn’t their purchase before Netflix, Spare, Spotify etc? Some of the money was only inherited this year. I guess the form of investment might also limit the liquidity of it too?

I've wondered this too but even if it was taken out before the $$$ came rolling in it would have made sense to pay it off. I believe estimations had it at some $9m which would have been peanuts at the time.

Maybe the hideous running costs got first dibs?

Agree entirely but the Diana inheritance must have dropped from the same magic money tree as the Frogmore 'repayment' because I'm pretty sure he credited it as being a big factor in enabling him to purchase the money pit.

He did say the in the Oprah interview

WarmingClothesontheRadiator · 05/01/2025 20:53

Is it a commercial mortgage? As I understand it Montecito is not owned directly so could the mortgage have come from themselves to enable ownership of the property to sit in some sort of shell company? No idea why they would do so unless some weird tax benefits of ownership rules for foreign citizens?

Baital · 05/01/2025 21:52

I read somewhere that there are tax benefits in the US to having a mortgage? So even if you don't need one it makes sense to have a mortgage rather than buy outright.

No idea if that is true. Hopefully one of the US based posters will comment.

Spectre8 · 05/01/2025 21:53

Sometimes an investment can return more than taking out a mortgage costs .

When I remortgaged 5yrs ago I could of paid off £30k but I got a 10yr fix for 2.3% and put my £30k into savings which has been earning more than 2.3% in interest every yr e.g. this year it's on a savings account earning 4.5%.

So borrowing money is sometimes better financial sense. Another example being why would I use dip into my savings thay are earning 4.5% interest just buy a £1500 sofa outright when I can get 0% finance and pay it off monthly and still be making money on my savings.

This is how rich ppl stay rich they make their money work hard for them.

It's owned by a REIT, which is quite unusual for private homes. REITs were really invented for commercial property, and it's a way of minimising tax. They may also have chosen to do it that way because of Harry's visa status, I don't know, I am not an immigration lawyer.

Re the poster above who said Harry has enough bunce to fund several generations; I don't think that's true at all. I've heard that they're burning through it like nobody's business. As I've posted on another thread, Meghan appears to no longer be using a professional stylist for her red carpet appearances - if you compare the way she's been styled on red carpets vs the cooking show recently, you can see that quite clearly. That might be a clue that they're looking to reduce outgoings somewhat.

However Meghan sacking her stylist is basically the equivalent of sticking your finger into a broken dam where outgoings are concerned, because Harry is absolutely pissing his money away on this court case. I've worked alongside Schillings in the past (client reputational crises, they are the ones to bring in) and they are top flight but also $$$$$$$$$$$$.

It almost feels as if the Gods that be have it in for Meghan with these fires in LA now. News taken over by this and bad timing for a show with her wafting about with someone's borrowed bees.

I agree but would add that, as NF is a world-wide streaming service, there are still a lot of viewers who won't give a fig about where she lives in connection with the current devastation. Will they choose to stream this particular series because of its celebrity presenter? Personally, I think it will be quickly binged and just as quickly forgotten.

CurlewKate · 11/01/2025 08:26

Are people seriously saying that God set fire to LA just to spite Meghan? Of well, I suppose he did arrange for a bear to eat a group of children who mocked one of his favorites for being bald. So he does have form for over reacting! 🤣

Lockupyourbiscuits · 11/01/2025 08:35

So odd there are fires raging there is a risk their power might be cut off , roads could get blocked

I can’t believe they left their kids to go and rubber neck people’s burnt out homes and bestow some hugs
Unless you are helping to clear up or have firefighting equipment you are only going to get in the way
Seriously who does that

Janiie · 11/01/2025 08:52

He is so contrary isn't he. This private man wanting to live a private life away from the horrid media pops out and does a bit of very public virtue signalling and gets snapped by the horrid media when he fancies. And people wonder why he is a figure of ridicule.

Grief vultures out to comfort the commoners by their presence.

I wasn't the person who described him as happy but I'll chip in.

I think he likes America, sun, surf, beaches and space from people. I think he adores his kids. I think he loves not having to do Royal work but misses his positive coverage and his former public popularity.

I think he misses his wider family but is also still angry towards them and resentful. I think he worries about finances and security.

I think he often feels like a fish out of water and doesn't particularly enjoy hanging out with celebrities. I think he dislikes having to do public facing work in his new life (apart from Invictus).

I think he's probably bored and lonely sometimes but also that that's nothing new.

How is that for a summary of his possible emotional state?! I think he'd have been happier living a quiet, remote life (although his ego would have objected to this) but with Meghan as his wife, that wasn't to be.

I agree with you, except for the bit about not enjoying the public facing work. He really enjoys pacing around the stage with a microphone, especially if the audience is whooping and clapping for him. I don’t find him an engaging public speaker but clearly others do and he very obviously enjoys the adulation.

LaMarschallin · 11/01/2025 22:26

I think he adores his kids.

This is said so often as if it’s something remarkable.
I adore my children. My DD adores hers. Anybody posting here who has children who doesn't adore them?
I'm pleased he's got children and that's it's something he and his wife wanted, but loving your offspring is pretty much a given and not particularly unusual.

Well, quite. And while we’re at it, why people go into ecstasy whenever their children appear beats me. From the little I’ve seen, they seem very much like everyone else’s children.

As the saying goes. children are like toothbrushes, much the same but I prefer my own.

Oh God yes!

The dreadful school shows. I sat through them because it was so lovely to see DD on stage, but the sheer boredom. Of course all the boring bits were because every other parent was as happy as I was the see their darling on stage. And that meant the whole school having their moment.

All as it should be! But our own children should be loved and prioritised. That's a pretty low bar

I like the saying, "children are like farts, you can just about tolerate your own" lol!

WinterCrow · 12/01/2025 06:03

Reminds me of Peter 'I love my kids' André. Yeah mate, you're supposed to. Whoopie bloody doo.

WinnieTheW0rm · 12/01/2025 08:28

l think I must be a defective parent by Harry’s assumed norms. I don’t have my DC on my lock screen.
