ARO update

At the end of August, there was a partial rejection of the ARO trademark because of the name and descriptions. Also issues with the logo.
They had 3 months to rectify, which you would think would be ample time.

But just a few days before the deadline, an extension has been applied for. Which would be another 3 months

So it’s obviously not an easy fix, I’m sure there have been countless people working to get this done and they have months! Yet they’ve not been able to sort it.

Seemingly, you are only allowed one extension. This would take her to the end of February. So pretty much a year since she’s launched and it’s no further forward, if anything she’s in a worse position. What a disaster.

I think I under estimated how invested people are in the failure of this brand (even this thread bears evidence). The more I read here, the more
I believe she can make this work.

Well I hope you’ll be filling your basket up on a regular basis to help her out 😁

I think she gets far too much hate for someone who hasn't actually done anything wrong, you would think she's done worse than Hitler the way people carry on. I'm assuming it's jealousy.

😂😂
Brilliant! Godwin's Law 😂

I didn’t realise. I just don’t believe those claims of bullying for a number of reasons.

its good that those affected have a voice, hopefully they got some catharsis from that.

I just don’t believe those claims of bullying for a number of reasons.

What reasons are they?

Did you use your superior powers of detection to 'not believe' other cases where multiple victims of abuse have come forward with similar experiences?

She moves merch, however people feel about her. That cesta collective bag she wore once, the founders wrote her a note to thank her - that’s how she invested in them. I’m not saying she sells out every single time but business owners have spoken on the effect she has

Well frankly I am taking your claims with a big pinch of salt. .

And some people are over invested in its success, let's hope for M's sake more of them!

Edited

My lack of belief doesn’t hurt them, I’m sure they are happy with the amount of people who do.

You assume wrong. I honestly can’t think of a single thing to be jealous about. Yes she has money but loads of other people have a helluva lot more, so that in itself is not going to cause jealousy. Can you say what things people might be jealous of?

You don’t believe the claims yet you think that it’s good that those affected “have a voice”? That they have got “some catharsis”? Are you saying they all made it up then?

What are your number of reasons not to believe the independent accounts from 12 separate victims of abuse? I am curious as to how or why you reached this conclusion.

Being bullied would have hurt them. Doesn't that matter?

And numerous victims have spoken up about their stories being dismissed is as damaging as the initial abuse. So yes, if they are telling the truth and you dismiss their stories then you are damaging them.

For those that can’t seem to grasp why ARO won’t get a trademark:

The Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, has hit a stumbling block following the US Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) partial refusal of a trademark application made by her company, Mama Knows Best LLC, in respect of the brand name. The USPTO’s decision leaves the brand, which has already been soft-launched and put its name to small-batch jams, in a difficult position. A material name change may be necessary for the company to have a brand name capable of registration and protection.
In its non-final office action of 31 August 2024, the USPTO set out the reasons for its partial rejection of the application for the registration of the American Riviera Orchard brand name. While it was satisfied that there were no other registered trademarks that conflicted with the American Riviera Orchard name, the geographical reference to the ‘American Riviera’ led the USPTO to find that the mark was not suitable for registration in relation to food products.
US trademark law prevents registration of a mark that is primarily geographically descriptive of the origin of an applicant’s products. The law is structured in this way so that geographic names are not monopolised and to ensure that other businesses located in that particular area are not restricted from communicating where their goods or services come from.
In its reasoning for partially rejecting the application, the USPTO described how the term ‘American Riviera’ is a nickname for Santa Barbara, California. This, combined with the fact that the Duchess of Sussex has a nearby residence – which would likely lead the consumer to conclude that the area was the origin of the products – led the USPTO to refuse the application because it is geographically descriptive. The decision does not prevent the registration of the mark in respect of other types of goods (that do not have a descriptive association with the mark), but does require the Duchess’s business to disclaim the wording ‘American Riviera’ in respect of food products.

So the Jam plan and doggie biscuits won’t be under the ARO name

Baital · 30/11/2024 11:44

Right.

Sincerely, I am no one special on a message board. Plenty of people believe and sympathise with the staff and I think they’d be fine with that tbh

Patienceinshortsupply · 30/11/2024 11:46

I almost feel abit sorry for her and Harry, they left the RF and thought they could enter the US and build their own quasi royal court. Only Covid then hit and the momentum got lost. Now they're just bouncing from bandwagon to bandwagon, and attempts to run some sort of business/foundation are flailing because nothing is ever followed through properly. I don't know who they have advising them but all they need is to find someone genuine to guide them and listen/act on their advice. But I have a feeling that neither are prepared to do so...... I will say though that the hatred towards Meghan needs to be directed more at Harry. He didn't guide or prepare her in any way shape or form for life in a goldfish bowl, and just appears to be in the middle of a lifelong temper tantrum. It's their kids I feel most sorry for - if at 18 they decide to reach out to the RF, I hope they are welcomed.

OneTealSloth · 30/11/2024 11:48

I think they are very stubborn and get a disproportionate amount of hate but for the life they live, Harry and Meghan are the last people I’d feel sorry for.

They have their health, wealth and children, they will be fine.

BunnyLake · 30/11/2024 11:49

@Patienceinshortsupply I don’t feel at all sorry for them, they are the authors of their disasters but I do feel bad for the kids. They’ve been deprived of something far bigger than boring podcasts and jars of jam. When they’re older and see their cousins on tv and they know their parents stopped them from having any kind of bonds with them I’d be bloody furious if I were them.

It's much the same for any victim of bullying. Don't listen to the randoms on social media.

That doesn't make the randoms on social media right. Especially when they refuse to say why they don't believe you...

PoppysAunt · 30/11/2024 11:50

@Patienceinshortsupply - I agree with you about Harry, one long temper tantrum describes it well. I do not envy Meghan being married to that ludicrous, drug addled man child.
She was no doubt mislead by him, but I do think it's incumbent on an adult woman to inform herself and learn accordingly. However. I think they both have significant problems, and it was never going to work out well.
I hope they both move on.
The children? Future proofed with the Prince and Princess titles. Princess Lilibet Diana is fairly distinctive

I agree. They will fall upwards.

That is the consequence of inherited wealth and privilege
