Meghan’s Midas Touch

So Clare Keller who once designed for the likes of Gucci, Chloe, Givenchy is now at Uniqlo.

NYT has done an article on Clare, where Clare tries to make out that Clare wanted her stint at Givenchy to be a short one …sure Clare

Meghan has emailed in to say she got a few items from Clare’s Uniqlo collection. Bet she’s gutted she can’t get the designer togs anymore! But my god…Meghans hardly the person to call upon as a fashion ambassador.

But I’m thinking, 2017- April 2020, when she left Givenchy. Is a very short time for a head at an atelier. So it looks obvious she was let go or was ‘mutually agreed’ as the Sussex’s like to say.

But could it be, that her stand out garment from her time there, Meghans wedding dress, was her downfall?

Im sure on paper the dress looked gorgeous. Simple, elegant, clean lines. But with the bespoke duchess satin used, which was incredibly thick - it didnt lend itself to elegant sleeves or a fine fit. We also know from the flower girl dresses it was a rush job. Charlottes dress was shocking, with a hanging hemline etc.

The fit of some of the flower girl dresses and Meghan dress didn’t look good. This must have reflected on Givenchy and Clare. I’m guessing that’s why she left so soon with no job to go to and now is at a fast fashion label!

Her Trajectory seems the same as Meghans. Duchess to D list. Givenchy to Uniqlo.

So why on earth she got Meghan to write an email talking her up I don’t know. Working with her seems like the kiss of death!

charlotte wore Pepa and co dresses to Eug and Pippas weddings

Their little girl celebration dresses are beautiful. I think the dresses are made in Spain. They are very much in the Spanish style too

Debenhams always did lovely flower girl dresses.

My little nieces wore absolutely beautiful Debenhams flower girl dresses for my wedding. £35 in the sales. The looked a million times better than the flower girl dresses at H&M's wedding. I hate to think how much money was wasted on those crappy garments.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 22/10/2024 23:43

But as a friend said to me at the time: it was all about her face. Nothing could detract from that.

Her hair detracted massively, it looked an utter mess like it had been scraped back for a shower, she had worn some lovely up-do’s prior to her wedding so I was really disappointed in her hair. The dress would have been lovely in the correct fabric, much more delicate would have suited the veil more. I did read (not sure how true it is) that she was intending to wear the Spencer tiara, hence the veil was made to match that tiara and not the one she wore, the one she did wear was stunning and did go well with the dress but not the veil! None of it makes sense! Add in the bridesmaids dresses debacle and the whole thing is a mess!

Watch out - there are posters on here who say that Meghan's hair should not be criticised because of her race.

There was a huge thread here on Dressgate back when Spare came out. Someone posted photos of royal dresses. Sarah Chatto's dress was the loveliest! Her bridesmaid dresses were also nice.

That poor tailor announced that he and his team spent 4 days, if I remember correctly, redoing the bridesmaid dresses for M & H's wedding.

Meghan looked like she was wrapped in a napkin. For a beautiful woman & so much expense it was underwhelming at best.

The poor local Tailor & his team trying to redo it all at the last minute, I cannot imagine the stress!

I thought Meghan's dress was lovely. What on earth was wrong with it?

I think the rule is with dresses you can only take them in a couple of sizes, any more and they have to be remade. So I suspect that's why Kate said that, she'd been told the dress was too big to take in, it needed to be remade.

DD’s wedding dress was an off the peg sample and at least 3 sizes too big.
She used a reputable wedding dress seamstress who altered it to fit dd perfectly.

I think her hair is extensions though, so nothing to do with race

If you compare Princess Charlotte's dress to her other bridesmaid weddings the H& M dress looks very cheap in comparison.
Apparently they were going for a cool t-shirt style, which I don't think fits the occasion as a concept.

Also there is one bridesmaid girl who doesn't have the flower head piece so she looks like the odd one out.

That was Kate Mulroney's daughter I think. Meghan's "bestie" back then and now they apparently have no contact whatsoever. It really sticks out in all the photos and a shame as the girl is very sweet. Makes you wonder whether the decision to have her included was fairly last minute, whether the florist were aware of how many headpieces to make or whether it was a deliberate sabotage by someone.

Edit: Apparently the real reason is that she had a different hairstyle so her flowers were placed at the back of her head. Very odd decision though considering the impact of the photos taken that day.

Had to re-read that. Dresses from actual H&M might have been better all round.

Yes the photos look odd as she doesn't appear to have a headpiece and another bridesmaid doesn't have a posy.
All looks a bit lastminute.com

@BemusedAmerican - I agree - I thought Sarah Chatto's dress was beautiful. I wasn't terribly keen on Kate's but it gave a nod to the Queen's and I think it was designed to hold its own in the Abbey. I'm just not keen on lace sleeves - they make me itchy just looking at them . Not the Same thing but I thought Camilla looked elegant in the dress she wore for her blessing.

12FreeRangeEggs · 23/10/2024 17:44

I know she isn’t a Princess but I thought that Lady Gabriella’s wedding was just lovely. Loved her dress, her updo, her tiara, her makeup and her stunning floral and tree display outside of St George’s chapel. Now there’s a woman with a freakish eye for detail.

Though beautifully made I didn’t like Catherine’s dress, particularly the pointy bodice and I was also really disappointed in the tiara it looked very underwhelming to me considering her future position, though I suspect that was due to her personality, I don’t think she wanted to be too ‘showy’ but still!

I looked up Lady Gabriella's dress. She was indeed gorgeous. Was she wearing the same tiara as the Queen on her wedding day?

That was Kate (Jessica?) Mulroney's daughter I think. Meghan's "bestie" back then and now they apparently have no contact whatsoever.

How many of the people who were at M's wedding is she still speaking to, either because she's dumped them or they've dumped her?

Wonder if she ever looks at her wedding album? Or did she leave it gathering dust at the back of a cupboard at Frog Cott?

Which wedding? the one in the back garden or the spectacle for the masses?

The other flower girls were the daughters of her apparent friend, Benita Litt, who is a lawyer and expert in IP/brand management. She's never been heard from again.

Imagine being a child who was part of a notorious wedding that forms part of British history, but having absolutely no connection anymore with the principals. In about 8 years' time they will all be doing tell alls, since a child can't be bound by an NDA!

Just had to Google it, she wore the Kent London Fringe tiara, as worn by her mother and grandmother. So a tiara from the Kent family with no mention of HMTLQ wearing it. I’d love a fringe tiara, if I had to have one 😆

Yes I read that too. If true, I can see why Kate and Meghan were not on the best terms and why the bridesmaid dress became an issue .

theemptinessmachine · 24/10/2024 02:25

Goodness , Meghan even felt threatened in her role as Queen Bee by two little children who did happen to outrank her. 🙄

The knowing look?

Meghan’s Midas Touch
Dustyblue · 24/10/2024 04:10

Ha! She doesn't look pleased does she?

I always wondered if the tiara story was true- that Meghan insisted on one with an emerald that 'was of unknown providence' & thus she couldn't have it.

In that situation, I'd be so dazzled by the array of fine jewels I'd say something like "I'd be honoured if you chose one for me".

Meanwhile Eugenie wore an emerald tiara on her wedding day, I guess that was a different one.

You get to a certain age and gravity takes over - i have the choice of a resting-bitch face or a fixed doolally smile.....neither a welcoming look.
