Meg’s era of joy

Triplesec · 06/10/2024 22:40

Showing up to support her very close friend who lost her child and also the children’s hospital at an evening gala. What a friend to have in the Duchess. Meghan was glowing, fresh faced, wore minimal makeup, was confidant and smiley. She was well spoken and supportive of the evening fund raiser when interviewed. Show Up, Do Good. Yes, she always does. Loved her look too.

Just looking at when Meghan last wore that red dress, she resembled Doria a lot. Now her face and even whole head shape seem very different.

I had to Google Lizzie Cundy, having not the foggiest who she is. 56!!!! I think I need serious intervention as I am certainly not red-carpet ready 😭

LC probably looks good from a distance but up close none of us can escape looking 56 Grin

"In the exact same position she would have been had she not become a royal."@Twistybranch

Oof. How true and how humiliating.

Vespanest · 08/10/2024 15:05

I feel Meghan lost her moment to gain revelance due to covid and then the documentary and spare and has lost confidence. She's all over the place trying to be insightful but also relatable. Trying to be sexy but also regal. I hope she gets to a yoyfull era, but it's feeling more of a lost or transistioning era.

I think if she had any sense, she could have used Covid as a way to build up a persona independent of her fading royal connections. She could have launched an Instragram channel, posted cooking videos and the like, building up to launching her own brand. The problem is, they didn't and don't seem to have any ideas other than 'We are a Duke and Duchess', which isn't terribly interesting.

I agree that she was behaving in a weird way on the red carpet. I think she just threw on the dress at the last minute. Going to a charity event without contributing to the charity is very strange, and won't have gone unnoticed by the organisers. Sure, celebrities using charities in a cynical way is hardly unusual, but to literally use a fund raiser as a photo opportunity, without even bothering to buy a table, goes beyond that.

Twistybranch · 08/10/2024 15:19

Yes she never had the moment to be ‘regal’ in the US.
Theres no events where that would organised as if a royal was attending, so she can’t have that moment walking out, meeting people in a line to greet her. She has work the red carpet and the room like every other celeb.

She won’t have an occassion, where everything stops for her arrival. Not in the US anyway. I think that why they like these foreign trips. To feel like royalty. Because in Hollywood, she’s just like everyone else….hustling to make money and get her name out there. She’s done it before (for years and years), so I think she’s fallen into what worked in the past. She was only a working royal for 18 months. And that was hit and miss. She never got it quite right. But she also tries to recreate royal protocol, so arriving later, being the first to leave, only attending for a short space of time. So it’s a terrible mish mash which is why her appearances always look odd and she doesn’t know what to do with herself.

But she’s stuck. Because to appear accessible for her brand, she has to keep her name in the papers and do events where there’s d list celebs like lizzie Clundy! I mean if you’re on the same table as lizzie….ask yourself what you’ve done wrong!

Firealarm1414 · 08/10/2024 15:22

She's stolen the 'joy' line from kamala Harris. She tried to make it the latest buzzword of her campaign. I'm surprised she hasn't come out with an endorsement for her yet, may as well burn even more rf bridges by meddling in politics too

Twistybranch · 08/10/2024 14:58

I think that’s what Liz jones picked up on in her article.

She seems diminished, all that she was supposed to become…and now she’s like a washed up Hollywood celebrity. In the exact same position she would have been had she not become a royal.

Her status is now lower than in Suits - I think she has dropped back to suitcase girl / burger girl status - except she couldn't even do that now in her mid 40s.

All of this. Sam Neill became very popular on Twitter using his account to post daft, funny stuff during Covid, including Skype parties with his celeb mates. I do think you need a) to be genuine and b) possess a sense of humour to do such things though.

I also doubt that House Sussex is so much on its uppers that Meghan couldn't have afforded to pay for and properly host a table for the myriad best girlfriends she's always talking about, I'm sure Archewell could have provided suitable levels of donation to the cause itself. Instead, it seems that she's ligged her way into another PR disaster. Totally avoidable.

Oof. How true and how humiliating.

She’d actually have been better off if she’d never attached herself to the RF.

Yes she’d still be hustling Hollywood but at least she wouldn’t be so derided because the general public wouldn’t know (or really care) about her personality flaws. She wouldn’t have to keep pretending to care about charitable causes, she could just have been a celebrity, not A list but ticking along. She could have done the rounds of talk shows, maybe got herself a YouTube channel, continued The Tig, got a few low key tv guest appearances, etc. She’d at least have some kind of reputation in tact. If I were her I’d deeply regret the way I played my hand. IMHO of course.

Sometimes I feel sorry for her but then I remember even on that very recent interview with Jane Pauley (?) she was still making veiled threats re the RF and any sympathy I might have vanishes.

Just watched the video clips rather than the photos.
You'd think MM and the lady in the white dress were a couple!
Or am I imagining things?

Yes, you're imagining things...

I can’t believe the newspapers and online haven’t picked up on this video. Half way down the article, there’s no audio.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13932215/amp/meghan-markle-affectionate-display-bff-kelly-mckee-zajfen.html

She looks very tipsy, and she clearly shouts ‘whoa!’ to and regain her composure.

She doesn't necessarily appear drunk to me, but a bit out of step to the others' behaviour.

Her pal clearly tilts her head away from Meghan. It's obviously not the look she wants for a charity event. This is the problem with Meghan - her behaviour is often not suitable for the event. She can't seem to be able to put a lid on herself.

MissRoseDurward · 08/10/2024 16:22

She was only a working royal for 18 months. And that was hit and miss.

I think her wedding day was the high point. The setting, the public attention, the genuine goodwill.... it's been downhill ever since, and I don't think there's anything she, or they, can do to recover.

Maybe but to me, that’s drunken behaviour.

The way she shouts ‘whoa!’ at the end and gives us a hip tilt….. that’s what cements it for me

Yes. I don't agree that Covid 'ruined their plans'. They didn't have any plans, not realistic plans anyway. Covid kind of put everyone on a level playing field in a way, because nobody could do their usual activities. So it would actually have been a good opportunity for her to build up a persona which didn't depend on her royal connections. But you are right in saying that she doesn't have a personality or sense of humour, so any social media presence would probably fall flat.

I'm not sure what she can do now as she has no marketable talents and she's basically wasted the past 4 years playing 'American royal'. She's looking increasingly ridiculous.

Twistybranch · 08/10/2024 17:06

So now she’s back in contact with her suits friends.

After years of ignoring them….looks like she needs them again.

Im guessing she will pop up on a podcast episode. 2 years ago, she would never have done this. How the mighty have fallen. But between Suits being a Netflix hit and Meghan desperately trying to make some sort of a career….here we are. The exact same position as she would have been in anyway….again!

Meghan's Suits co-star reveals the 'lovely' text he got from Duchess

Patrick J. Adams, 43, told Reddit the sweet text he received from the Duchess of Sussex when he started up the Sidebar podcast with fellow Suits star Sarah Rafferty, 51.

As did Sophie Ellis-Bextor with her kitchen disco, she came across such a lovely family oriented person and seems genuinely nice as well as being beautiful.

Needanewname42 · 08/10/2024 17:14

Agreed they had so much support at their wedding.
They were a bit unfortunate with covid but really I don't think it made much difference. They left the RF with a half baked business plan, hoping to trade of being Royals.
I don't think they can recover as a couple. I think H might be able to recover himself, but not with M beside him.

Who knows if M can get back into acting? Would she want to get back into it?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 08/10/2024 17:17
