What to make of the fact that he appeared without Meghan and looked quite anxious and stressed?

There is a huge difference between me telling my DS that Santa is real and going on Oprah and telling the world things that are so very damaging to family

Well you are lying to your child and one day they will realise he isn't real and you lied to them 💁‍♀️ some would say that's damaging to your own child after all you teach them to be honest but then show them it's okay to lie....

Manypaws · 24/09/2024 18:35

Somehow he has survived, he is at Uni studying law and is genuinely a lovely young man with a close relationship with his family

Although perhaps the trauma of growing up with a mother who ensured he had a Christmas Eve gift delivered by the elves will someday rise to the surface

Well, not just Santa and the reindeer and the sherry and the mince pie and the carrots, but also the Tooth Fairy. How have generations of us coped all these years, with this load of lies?

Manypaws · 24/09/2024 18:52

I've never forgiven my parents re the tooth fairy , still getting therapy

My mother was such a wonderful liar that I SAW the tooth fairy once.

Sorry but you can’t possibly know that “daily, relentless harassment and humiliation” took place! Where has that been proven?

They are all as bad as one another!

Remember that BP staff have had to go on strike to get better pay. What is worse; some occasional verbal disputes or ongoing exploitation?

Or is ongoing wage exploitation of your staff while being frightfully polite to them any better?

As told to Valentine Low (the journalists the former employees first approached) and recounted in his book Courtiers, one former staff member gave a detailed account of Meghan’s behaviour towards them on one Friday night in particular. Something had not been to the Duchess’ satisfaction and she and Harry continuously rang their staff member to berate them.

"Every 10 minutes, I had to go outside to be screamed at by her and Harry. It was, 'I can't believe you've done this. You've let me down. What were you thinking?' It went on for a couple of hours. You could not escape them. There were no lines or boundaries—it was last thing at night, first thing in the morning,"

This is malicious bullying, absolutely. And that’s just one of the stories. He recounted plenty more. (I’ve investigated these kind of complaints before, too. They are easy to verify, or refute - ask to see the employee’s phone records for the night in question. If it’s a work phone, get the employer to get the phone records. So, easily verifiable, and set out in detail in a published book…).

Plus the fact that a official complaint was made to HR about Meghan’s bullying staff at the time, and Harry admits in his own words in Spare that their office was a toxic environment and his brother (who also worked with the staff) was concerned about Meghan’s behaviour. This is not some spurious gossip, there is plenty of evidence making it look more likely than not, unless you are determined to close your eyes to it.

Oh my goodness, the poor lamb I hope he is OK.

Good grief, is this what we are reduced to? Arguing about these idiots pernicious lying.

For what it's worth, it's OK to be anxious of public speaking, I am. I had do something similar to Harry. I rehearsed, I used my cue cards and I only had 1 glass of wine the night before. Harry clearly didn't. He's 40. He should know better. Turn up, do better to paraphrase a certain foundation.

Wonder how many mumsnetters have lied in their life...I mean it's pretty hard to find someone who has never lied in their life. So I guess once a liar always a liar holds true for everyone who has ever lied

Lying to the court when on oath is very serious, as a PP said. Literally career ending for many people. Plus it destroys your reputation for ever after.

Maliciously telling falsehoods to damages someone’s reputation is also a legal wrong that can mean you have to pay compensation.

So no, not all lies are created equal.

Never siad they were equal but no matter how unequal it is it's still a lie you cannot refute that. A lie isna lie no matter how big or small it is. So going back to the poster I was replying to who said once a liar always a liar that would mean everyone is basically a liar then becuase let's face eit everyone has lied at some point in their life no matter how big or small the lie was. Therefore the poster who made thst comment is also a liar as they too will have lied about something in their life. So I wonder if the poster who made that comment is happy to accept they too should be classed as once a liar always a liar

All cultures have religious myths, social myths, magical creatures (eg tooth fairy). Figures like Santa, present giving mice (France) and the like exist all over Western culture, often stolen from ancient pagan culture. The human race - including your kids if you have them - has managed to survive. It's simply ignorant to categorise these things as "lies" on par with lying in a court of law on a sworn witness statement and in testimony before a judge. Children aren't stupid. They grow up, they stop believing, they look back fondly at their credulity and their excitement, they forget about it and then they do it all with their own kids. It's cultural (and sometimes religious) practice and rite passage. Not "lying".

Citrusandginger · 24/09/2024 19:29

I'm no expert but I'm going to hazard a wee guess that the Birthday was definitely celebrated. And to be fair, he's not the first person on the day after their 40th Birthday to look a little sweaty and glassy eyed.

In other, not especially surprising news, a not very bright bloke who has recently parted ways with his latest communications adviser, didn't have a very good speech.

Harry was scaffolded by a big team when he was inside the royal family tent Marquee. It's a shame he believed the hype about him that they fed to the press.

smilesy · 24/09/2024 19:33

Or it’s hair splitting, derailing behaviour by some posters to try and play with semantics and declare that “a lie is a lie” when it clearly isn’t. There is such a thing a context and nuance, however inconvenient it is for some people’s narrative or attempting to divert the thread agenda 😉😆

So, have you never told a lie in your entire life, then?

He’s a childish arsehole that was literally born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Its on him.

I don't see much evidence of maturity ... true that

Serenster · 24/09/2024 20:46

I’m glad you mentioned that Spectre8 as I’m rather confused that you reacted as dramatically as you did when you mistakenly believed I had lied about you. If you now admit that you have told lies yourself, and therefore it’s not a big deal, what was with the drama?

(That’s rhetorical by the way, I have no interest whatsoever in rehashing this).

Mylovelygreendress · 24/09/2024 20:47

@Spectre8 do you not understand that lying on oath is extremely serious ?
How can you compare that to telling your DC about the Tooth Fairy ??

This is getting desperate - and barely relevant now.

@Spectre8
Lying on oath is perjury and can lead to a prison sentence if found guilty. Meghan is lucky the judge did not pursue as I’ve seen this happen in my time as a solicitor.
