She has released a video to state that she has completed her cancer treatment.

Huge Kate fan but that video is the first time she's made me cringe. Do a statement and be done with it. All this thankfulness and nature is just cheesy.

Shakenandstirredup · 09/09/2024 18:01

@drivinmecrazy 💐

merrymaryquitecontrary · 09/09/2024 18:01

For some reason the video didn't work for me, I could hear her but not see the video. I'm very glad everything is so far so good, but what really struck me is the way she talks. Her articulation didn't seem natural at all, like someone really making an effort to speak 'posh'. I know this is really random and not the point at all, but I don't think I've every heard her speak so I'm genuinely shocked.

Shakenandstirredup · 09/09/2024 18:02

Do not climb on timber stacks, ffs!

Why is it bad?!

AnnieMcFanny · 09/09/2024 18:04

@merrymaryquitecontrary perhaps she’s a very nervous public speaker and just comes across as trying to be posh.

I think it was discreetly saying this is what is important to us.

Yes I thought this too. And fair enough.

Shakenandstirredup · 09/09/2024 18:05

Tbf to them the video is very inkeeping of what other celebs/brands do.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 09/09/2024 18:06

The way she talks about the last nine months at the beginning of the video, I think she has been much more ill than was suggested initially. It has clearly been very serious.

Karmakamelion · 09/09/2024 18:06

It was awful . Really really cheesy and telling us that she will walk side by side with us. Stop patronising us

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/09/2024 18:06

I am impressed that both the King and the Princess of Wales have chosen to keep their diagnosis private to avoid the young children being exposed to misinformation
People forget in their need for intimate details that these children should not learn about the speculated prognosis of their mother and grandfather from school friends or the internet

Very much agree with this; no matter what type it is people always barrel in with their own version of how it works, but it's a deeply individual thing and they can do without further speculation

Thoughts also to everyone going through similar, whether for themselves or a loved one

Isn't it obvious?
Because they can be unstable and the person can get trapped or squashed if caught in between the logs.
Just the same as not climbing hay bales piled sky high.

ToLockEyeswiththeLeopard · 09/09/2024 18:07

@lemonstolemonade is read it very differently to that. I understood it to mean that she had finished chemo, but is not out of the woods and 'hopes' to stay cancer free.

This sounds to me as though it was something quite unpleasant that was removed and treated aggressively in the hope it will not return. There was more sense of hope than celebration. She never once used the words ''all clear' but pleased to be through the treatment and hopeful for the future. My heart goes out to her and her family. Dealing with this in the public lens, she had been nothing but dignified and gracious and thoughtful of others going through something similar.

AlwaysGreen · 09/09/2024 18:07

The PDA... this is very risque by Kate & William standards 👀

Feedable · 09/09/2024 18:08

It is so wonderful that she has finished her treatment. It is a great video.
Anyone who has lived through the terrifying journey that is cancer will empathise completely with her.
I really don't get some posters who are critical. One in two of us will have cancer. I wonder when those of you mocking the video, will hear the cancer diagnosis and think back and wish you had applauded her words.

Vikina · 09/09/2024 18:08

Trixiefirecracker · 09/09/2024 17:21

I imagine if Meghan had done a similar video she would have been absolutely flamed for being overly sentimental, twee and smaltzy. As it’s Kate, she can do no wrong.

As far as we know Meghan does not have cancer and just completed chemotherapy. It's not comparable and there is no need to pot these women against each other.

AnnieMcFanny · 09/09/2024 18:08

Stop patronising us

I didn’t feel patronised. I believed her. She’s now part of a horrible club that no one wants to be part of and it does create a (very strange) sense of togetherness.

AderynBach · 09/09/2024 18:09

I thought it was lovely. Wishing her a long and healthy future.

Toastbuttermarmaladetea · 09/09/2024 18:10

Lovely video. I really hope it heralds the start of her coming back to public life in good health, not something altogether sadder as suggested.

Why do it? Clearly people have short memories of the February and March frenzy. I think they were ticking off all the conspiracy theories. About her being dead, at death's door, a stand in, her marriage being over and that she's actually left William, that the children are in distress etc, etc. Hand on the gear stick? Showing her ring finger so the twats get a clear view, nothing being "hidden". It won't stop them, but then nothing will - certainly an arid statement would not, so why not go all out with a gorgeous video. Good for Catherine and William for going for it.

I thought the message was good but the delivery was too cheesy.
I cringed at some of it. It actually felt intrusive and overdone.

Not the words, but the soft focus shots, the music, and the subtext that families never argue and kids never misbehave. Kids squabbling with each other and 'being kids' would resonate more.

IMO they could have cut it by half and we'd still have got the message.

I wish her well of course and hope she makes a full recovery.

@ToLockEyeswiththeLeopard

I don't disagree with you on what Catherine said about her own situation. What I am saying is that all over the country, there are people, some quite young, who get told "you have cancer, your diagnosis is terminal", so when she says "to all those with cancer, there is hope, I am with you", that's still a pretty privileged position to be in. I have a friend with 3 kids who recently died of bowel cancer within 6 months, no hope for them, so perhaps I am a bit oversensitive about the "there is hope" message as if it applies to all

usernother · 09/09/2024 18:12

Lovely video.

Feedable · 09/09/2024 18:12

I agree @AnnieMcFanny
I really cannot understand people who mock her words. I doubt that
many would mock and belittle if it was your Mum or your sister.
Cancer will touch all of our lives in some form. I hope people are generous when those who mock, encounter cancer, whether personally or to a loved one,
