@Mylovelygreendress no but Netflix did drop the trailer for Polo within hours of the new video being released by KP.

IAmATorturedPoet · 10/09/2024 12:12

'Hello' (a Sussex favourite) published a puff piece 'exclusive' on Harry's 40th birthday plans earlier this morning but, they have just had to relegate that in favour of an article on P&PoW Grin

For me I thought it came across very much like, I'm better but don't expect me to do too much going forward. Yes I can totally understand why that would be the case, but my thoughts did drift to all the ordinary people who have had cancer who would probably have to get straight back to work and not have the luxury of a really full recuperation period. And also, I don't think Kate has ever come across as particularly hard working at the best of times. But like I said, it's good news that she's better.

Same here. And their carers. I lost at least six months wages taking care of my dying mum and the stress of continually apologizing at work, in addition to the stress of her illness and death, prematurely aged me and about killed my social life, and what had been a chance at marriage, in my 40s.

It was worth it to be with mum but trust me that Wills and the Middletons are not experiencing those aspects of the issue.

I'm glad for her but the video is amazingly self absorbed and tone deaf.

It’s a lovely uplifting video, a bit cheesy for my tastes but a good message to put out there. This is how I’m doing, this is what’s important to me, this is the future Royal Family, things are going to be ok but they’re going to look different in the future.

Although she talks about going back to work, I think it’s clear she’s managing expectations with this video and good for her. IMHO this nine months break has been a good thing in calming down the public demand for updates and I hope it continues.

Hideous that people feel the need to make nasty comments about someone recovering from or possibly living with cancer.

Yes but the point of being royal is being in the public eye. One can't demand all of the wealth, privilege & perks but also a totally private life.

I don't mean she doesn't deserve medical privacy, but health permitting the future queen just can't decide to opt out and focus solely on self care.

Pathetic, tbh 😂
I have no interest in being subservient or sycophantic to a bunch of privileged people who have zero idea about life in the real world.
I’m sure your pal, Kate, didn’t have to worry about loss of earnings or childcare whilst attending appointments/resting/recovering etc.
Y’know, like us ordinary people would?

I wish her the same for everyone going through cancer but I am certainly not bowing and scraping before her, like you.

She didn’t have to worry about loss of earnings or childcare… but she did have to worry about the effect of media speculation on her children, and she did have to worry about the possibility of her young children growing up in the public eye without their mother, especially in light of how this has played out in the previous generation. The timing of this video, when the kids are due back to school, and the previous cancer video when they had just broken up shows that she is putting the impact of her children at the forefront. Her worries may be different to other cancer sufferers but that it’s not a reason to knock her down. And you don’t have to be sycophantic to have empathy.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but your circumstances are unique to you.

I had zero issues taking time off to help care for my father.

I would also be able to take off the same amount of time for treatment that the PoW has (if required).

I'm not special - I work within the NHS.

Lots of public sector workers are the same.

Your opinion is yours alone. I hope no one else in your family is ever affected.

MrsFinkelstein · 10/09/2024 12:30

Anyway, nice to see the day shift has clocked in now.

Better get back to my bowing, scraping, frothing and forelock tugging. Don't want to miss out on completing my bingo card.

Who said anything about knocking her down?
And I have plenty of empathy, thank you.
You have absolutely no idea about me and what I do to show empathy for others.

I just don’t get this obsessive fawning and adulation over someone you don’t know.
And yes, it’s sycophantic.

I wish her health and happiness, same as I do for everyone.

IAmATorturedPoet · 10/09/2024 12:40

The video represents the path she has been on and what is now important to her.

It’s her journey to record and tell as she wishes.

Unlike most of us who have plans to try and reduce our workload as we get older, Catherine’s workload is going to increase as she gets older. If she wants to take a ‘mini retirement’ now and focus on her health and her family that seems very sensible.
.

You're just like her 😂

Do you also have staff? Or do you have to do your own laundry and housework etc? Do you have an extremely luxurious house with acres of grounds to walk on undisturbed? Do you never have to look at your council tax bill or worry about what your electric bill will be?

Honestly you've really drunk the kool aid if you believe your life is in any way similar.

@Comedycook, I know your username from around, and I'm not generally someone who agrees with you on much, but yes, I agree. Much Kool Aid drinking in evidence.

Which is of course what this video was carefully constructed to do. Otherwise every ordinary person who had to deal with cancer treatment without being cushioned by wealth, paid help, and the knowledge that they were getting the absolute best and speediest treatment available, would just be (understandably) angry.

Currently on holiday and catching up while toddler DGC has a nap .
Some people can’t even be nice to a mother of young children who has had cancer. Yes she has staff , money etc but that doesn’t mean she isn’t human .,
Afternoon shift are particularly sour today .

eddiemairswife · 10/09/2024 13:09

The video very much resembled a shampoo advertisement.

TheHallmarkedMan · 10/09/2024 13:13

It's giving "only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate"

She's a human irrelevance. I can understand why anyone who has cancer on top of dealing with all the difficult stuff that comes from not having any money while still having cancer would be irritated by the gushing responses to this carefully-curated piece of guff.

Obviously, one wishes her a full recovery, just as one wishes it for anyone else who has a serious illness, but dear Jesus, the sycophancy. And the credulous lapping up of something whose every shot, backdrop, costume etc will have been carefully constructed and vetted by flotillas of courtiers, PR people etc.

Damn you, you've now infected me with 'TASTES LIKE CHOCOLATE NEVER TASTED BEFORE!!!'

BurntBroccoli · 10/09/2024 13:15

Seems insensitive when many people don't have the same access to healthcare or unlimited access to a private estate including beach and woodlands in which to recuperate in nature.

There are definitely some Timotei moments in there.

LadyKenya · 10/09/2024 13:16

A statement, that she had finished her treatment, would have been more than enough, imo.

crumblingschools · 10/09/2024 13:17

@LadyKenya have you forgotten the media storm after their initial statement, that was most definitely seen by many as not enough

I am not sure this is accurate.

They made an initial statement about the abdominal surgery.

Then radio silence while the rumours swirled because there was no sign of her whatsoever. And while the rumours themselves were wrong it was true that the palace were holding back something (the cancer diagnosis)

Then they faked a photo which made it a lot worse

Then she did the stripey top video message and by that point she kind of had to do a video message because the photo fake had made all the rumours so much worse.

Actually if they had issued a statement about the cancer treatment before the rumours had started and not faked a photo, a written statement might have been enough. We won't ever know.

I think they have messed up the PR throughout

crumblingschools · 10/09/2024 13:17

That is why I said in my opinion. I understand that would not be enough for others, although I cannot see why it would not be. I think the video that they released was not necessary, and ott personally.

smilesy · 10/09/2024 13:30

As pp have said, though, the video was released on instagram and it fits in more with the aesthetic on there. It has subsequently been picked up by the msm and it doesn’t work as well in that situation . Obviously they are releasing things directly onto social media to avoid the photoshopping debacle from Mother’s Day

BemusedAmerican · 10/09/2024 13:35

@BurntBroccoli We have lots of free parks, beaches, and nature preserves in the US. I grew up in a small village in the NY Metro area with 2 village parks and a state park. In NYC, green space is easily reached by foot or public transit. Maybe this is an issue that the UK should work on.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 10/09/2024 13:46

@BurntBroccoli I don’t know where you live, but in the UK we do have access to parks and free health care. Sorry that you don’t.
@MidYearDiary To call someone ‘a human irrelevance’. Wow that is bitchy. Really really nasty.

I hope and presume that the POW doesn’t look at social media. It’s bad enough having cancer without all this crap coming from
strangers. She is a strong woman to cope so well.

I have incurable cancer and it’s bad enough coping with stupid comments from people that know me, without such unpleasantness from complete strangers
