the difficulty I have is that there are always three sides, their side, the other side and the actual facts of the situation.

The difficulty I have is that so much of what H has said has been shown to be untrue, or at least inaccurate, that I have trouble believing anything he says now. The most charitable interpretation of some of it is that he/his ghost/his editor was sloppy about fact checking, but that doesn't account for all of Spare, and things said in interviews.

@Getonwitit the difficulty I have is that there are always three sides, their side, the other side and the actual facts of the situation. The press have spent so much time enthusiastically trashing them and portraying the monarchy’s version as facts, who knows what’s true anymore. I’m just sick of it all and there are surely more important things to focus on like improving our education system, funding our NHS, looking after our SEN children etc to go on about them.

We don’t tend to discuss the NHS or the Education system on the Royal Family board, other boards are available that meet your requirements HTH.

Once trust has been destroyed you can’t put it together again even if you pretend you have

Isn’t there a three book deal that’s yet to be completed? I thought that there was enough material for Spare2 left over? And Meghan’s supposedly writing her memoire which will presumably need to have shocking revelations à la Spare in order to generate income?
Anything these two do has to have $$$$ attached to it and I greatly suspect they’re desperate for things to exploit to their advantage. I sincerely hope Harry stays where he is, I can’t imagine how anyone in the royal family would ever trust him again.

Would Spare the paperback be classed as book 2? Leaving Meghan’s memoir for number 3?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 02/09/2024 20:47

Funny isn’t it how he can rock up to the service for his Uncle who I suspect he barely exchanged Christmas cards with, yet couldn’t make it to Prince Phillip’s memorial service, mind you there was nothing in it for Harry at that point, now however he apparently wants something, needs must eh Harry.

I thought he told the court in his ongoing phone hacking case that he destroyed all the remaining notes and communications about Spare, thus could not produce them for disclosure on the issue of the limitation period in his phone hacking claim. The pages he claimed he had enough of for another book were pages the lawyers had told him to take out of the original manuscript, not freshly written material - so if he's telling the truth, they are destroyed, and there is nothing for a second book (unless he starts from scratch).

Is there anything in particular stopping you going ahead and focussing on all that important stuff?

Right now?

@IcedPurple we aren’t talking about me are we, we are discussing this post aren’t we?!?

CathyorClaire · 02/09/2024 20:50

Well we've spent £26m bidding for Harold's circus (with more public costs to come), a fortune on defending and underwriting his court cases and unknown amounts on now demonstrably unnecessary police escorts for lightening UK visits all of which could have been directed to the more desirable projects you mention.

Why can't we point it out?

Do you go onto other boards, oh I don’t know, let’s say the gardening section for example and tell posters there how cross you are that they are discussing their maple tress rather than discussing the state of the NHS? Stop trying to police people’s posts when they are on a board specifically designed by Mumsnet for that particular discussion.

Sandwichgen · 02/09/2024 20:58

Presumably, M need to get here memoirs out prior to any divorce, because she’d almost certainly have to sign an NDA wouldnt she, as part of any settlement ?

What is the interest on the money in their bank? Surely they can downsize and live off that forever, the interest is probably close to a million a year at least. They cannot have a billionaire lifestyle diddums

@BigWillyLittleTodger for goodness sake take a chill pill. I don’t police anything, I just give my view which is what everyone on here is doing isn’t it? It’s a discussion forum? Or do I have to agree with everyone then I’m included?

I thought that too. If they invested their millions properly, they could easily live off the interest.

smilesy · 02/09/2024 21:14

The Telegraph is now reporting that a “source” close to Harry is denying that he has any interest in a role within the RF See here

Sorry I don’t have a share token. Can anyone archive it?

Prince Harry has ‘no interest’ in returning to royal duties

Duke of Sussex focused on future in US, according to sources, after speculation he is seeking fresh start

Not me who needs to chill out, you are the one who came onto the Royal Family board ranting about posters not discussing the NHS and the Education system and yes that is trying to police what people discuss.

Hughs · 02/09/2024 21:19

Ah the old classic "float an idea and see what the reaction is, uh oh everyone hates it so deny, deny, deny".

See also Meghan and her imaginary deal with Dior, their decision to accept an invitation to Balmoral, last time Harry said he was prepared to "help" when Charles was first diagnosed etc etc

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 02/09/2024 21:20

He’s probably been told ‘no chance’ and wants to get his side out again!

Abouttimeforanamechange · 02/09/2024 19:43

To keep it slightly OT I assume Harry is pissed off because the establishment won't let him prove who his really father is

What utter nonsense. Harry is clearly Charles's son and Philip's grandson - they have the same eyes.

What utter bollocks - whose else would he be? Diana's affairs timelines are pretty well known, and her first was Barry Manakee who she first met in 1985, affair at some point after that. Harry was born a year before that.

And I don't quite get why he would want to prove that he was not a legitimate heir (removing him from LoS, and forfeiting all royal titles for himself and his DC, though the Dukedom would remain)

@BigWillyLittleTodger no I didn’t, I responded to someone. My original comment was not ranting, it was giving a view. If you don’t like my view, move on by.

Not sure the interest would be that high but yeah, they could easily live a very comfortable life with never having to do any real work.

But the key word is 'downsize'. They don't seem to want to do that. They seem to consider themselves entitled to a billionaire lifestyle without putting in any work. They're not going to get the sort of deals they got with NF and Spotify again. So it's hard to see how their current lifestyle is sustainable.

So..these two conflicting stories, first from the Mail second from the Telegraph, are they just made up by bored journos during silly season, or do they originate with the key players?
Very confusing Confused
