Harry in UK for funeral

DM is reporting Harry came to the UK for the funeral of his uncle Robert Fellowes. The husband of Diana's sister Lady Jane. Apparently they kept their distance from each other and didn't speak. Looks like William has the Windsor habit of bearing grudges. Don't blame him in this case.

It must have been a very stressful time. It's amazing that the sisters apparently managed to maintain a relationship. William and Harry appear to have been close to their Spencer cousins. I think one of Jane's daughters is godmother to Charlotte.

Apparently Harry stayed with his uncle Earl Spencer at Althorp during his recent visit to the UK. Article in DM. Well well that was a bit unexpected.

Was it? I assumed that to be the case.

BUT…….security ??

I assumed he'd be scoping out a few rooms to move into!

Serenster · 03/09/2024 11:56

Harry staying at Althorp is another story from Simon Perry at People Magazine, by the way. So likely direct from Harry. Tomorrow I wonder if it will be that he wanted to visit his mother’s grave? (Which I’m sure he would have done as it was close to the anniversary of her death - just whether it’s private or not will be of interest).

He meant 'people who told me things I didn't want to hear '

And milveycrohn...

I always wondered about that - long ago, in the Diana days - I though it must have caused a bit of a conflict of interests, being Robert Fellowes!

I guess from what Harry has said in his various blatherings and writings, he must have been 'that' kind of boy: the bane of teachers' lives, and if your son made friends with him and he came to visit, you'd always be on edge, in case he pushed things too far. No, Harry doesn't like authority figures of any kind. Some people admire this trait and think it's cool and rebellious, but I'm more inclined to see it as arrogance and ignorance - the assumption that you have nothing to learn from anyone, least of all older men 'and women ' in grey suits'. Look at the way he regarded poor Angela Kelly - who was just doing her job correctly.

Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock · 03/09/2024 13:41

Didn't Tina Brown also comment that MM had nothing she could have learned from an old. white woman like Lady Hussey, whom the queen had assigned to help her (one of the many)?

How disrespectful.

Big mistake thinking he could take on AK. She wouldn't stand for their bullying, and she reported directly to the Queen.

Uricon2 · 03/09/2024 13:57

Wasn't she also offered (by QE) help from her own, highly respected, equerry, Lt. Col. Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah too? He's only 2 years older than Meghan and hardly an old white woman. I believe Sophie was also offered as a source of help and support and rejected.

Vespanest · 03/09/2024 13:58

Trying to get my head around how you can be bothered to go to the memorial and then go back to people magazine and find all possible avenues to make the memorial about yourself, with sly digs about your brother. I wonder if Charles Spencer thought the visit would include briefing to the magazine. You’d think Charles would have learned by now that it’s hard being neutral. Surely there is no one who thinks it’s not Harry and Meghan (through their sources) briefing the magazine.

You are absolutely right but guess who didn’t offer ( according to H and M) ? Catherine . The one who was pregnant and had 2 other very young children . And that appears to have infuriated Meghan .

This is what that bastard shit Omid Scobie said about the Lt. Col Twumasi-Ankrah. I absolutely hate Scobie for dragging him into the MM circus, and she can fuck the fuck off too.

“In fact, minimal thought ever went into race-related issues when it came to the Sussexes. This is the same institution that suggested that Lady Susan Hussey (yes, that Lady Susan Hussey) help biracial Meghan acclimate to Palace life and navigate the royal system. The duchess turned down the offer, probably having already sensed that it might not be the best idea. When Palace aides later told reporters, including myself, that they “bent over backwards” to make Meghan feel comfortable at Buckingham Palace, this included a follow-up suggestion that perhaps the Queen’s Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah should be the one to help Meghan. Though a charming and intelligent man, it stood out like a sore thumb to Meghan and her friends that, due to a lack of Black or other non-white staff, let alone women, in relevant senior roles, the Palace had to turn to someone who was the Queen’s attendant. “I doubt Kate was offered an equerry [for guidance],” a pal said to Meghan.”

The "Queen's attendant", "charming and intelligent". Patronising POS.

Lady Hussey, whom the Sussexes later claimed they loved and would never say anything racist, commenting after the debacle with Ngozi Fulani.

And, of course, they drag Catherine into it. When we all know MM wanted Catherine to be her mentor, so she could stalk her from close quarters.

Serenster · 03/09/2024 15:21

It’s also nonsense because Kate was very close to William and Harry’s Private Secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton (his son was one of their wedding page boys and there are loads of photos of them together when she was William’s girlfriend). And he started his career with the Royals as an equerry.

Uricon2 · 03/09/2024 15:28

That is atrocious @Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock . "Attendant", indeed.

Yes to Kate as "mentor" (indeed) and it clearly never crossed the "pals" mind that she had been around for 10 years when they got married, not 10 minutes, so knew the ropes rather better.

Thedom · 03/09/2024 16:34

Well, there is a lot said, and plenty of examples, about the diversity, or lack thereof, of her circle of friends and those who she employs. Friends of colour appear to be limited to the uber wealthy ones.

I do wonder what Doria thinks of the whole circus.

Doria will be keeping it tightly zipped whatever her thoughts are - she's an intelligent woman and knows what could happen if she voices an opinion. In fact, she's proving to be very much like QEII, never explain, never complain, and I think they'd have got on well if the situation had been different.

GorgeousTulips · 03/09/2024 17:45

It would be interesting to know. I've got a completely open mind about her, based on her appearing a gracious and pleasant lady at the wedding and on the Grenfell engagement and sympathy with an "ordinary" person with a very slightly famous offspring then suddenly thrust in to an international spotlight, the RF, etc. It must be overwhelming.

Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock · 03/09/2024 18:11

Doria did complain - on Netflix.

She must be well into her sixties with limited options if she decides she's had enough.

OTOH, they can't dump her like they've dumped everyone else - think of the $$$$ she could make, and how she could set herself up for the rest of her life, with a Tell All about life in Montecito!

I thought Doria is the CEO of an elderly care home?

I didn't know that. Did some searching - Wiki says it's called Loving Kindness Senior Care Management. Reddit seems to think it's dodgy.

LaMarschallin · 03/09/2024 20:58

Did Meghan ever put warm messages about her mother on the Tig, like she did about her father, does anyone know?
For example the father's day one about him giving the "best hugs" and the one about him deconstructing some Barbie (or some doll) family sets to make a mixed race family, which did sound very thoughtful.

DelectableMe · 03/09/2024 21:00

I didn't see all the posts, @LaMarschallin , but it was definitely dominated by warm tributes to her father. I assumed because he brought her up.
