Welcome to Part 7 of our positive threads, where we explore all things Meghan and Harry. From the causes they champion and their business ventures to Meghan’s (and occasionally Harry’s 😉) fashion moments, there’s a lot to chat about. This is a drama-free space, so let’s keep it upbeat! High five to @queentim for the original inspiration.

He might actually do something useful for once then if he did.

Hehe 🤣. Love it!

@Spectre8 By that logic they’d only get security when undertaking royal duties. Which is what they were offered and turned down. Harry wants 24/7 security and half in/ half out. He can’t have both.

FYI- your understanding of U.K. inheritance law and the history of the privy purse is extremely poor. The RF didn’t change the law. It’s quite complex but it came down to the monarch not being taxed on inheritance because that money is being used to support their work as head of state.

The Sovereign grant replaced the Civil List and is very much reduced. It now only supports working members of the central family to complete duties and the upkeep of buildings used for state duties. So Balmoral and Buckingham palace but not Sandringham.

No one in the RF has an estate that is paid for by the Sovereign Grant that they keep as a private home. Those who undertake royal duties often have a work facing address in Windsor or Kensington Palace and a private home that is run to support itself.

The only exception to this rule is Andrew. Hence the issues with Royal Lodge and the King attempting to move him to a smaller Grace and favour apartment. It needs repairs and that can’t be done from the Sovereign Grant because he isn’t a working royal.

Having M&H as half working royals who had a fully paid for house and security would go against all the cost cutting and modernisation of recent decades. The family couldn’t justify it. No one else has that deal. And M&H just weren’t good enough at the job to make it an irresistible prospect to anyone- least of all the government who’d had to deal with their embarrassing behaviour on tour.

Anyone who thinks that the U.K. government (especially a Labour one) would welcome four extra royals who want everything paid for in return for half the work is gaga. Not going to happen. The king is not the only one who has to approve this. I suspect Keir Starmer would also say no.

Edited

I don't have a poor understanding thanks.

The sovereign grant is 15% of profits but was increased ro help cover the palace renos and will go back to 15%. So it's not a reduced amount at all. The sovereign grant infscts means they have more than they did on the civil list. I think £25m a year to fund their duties is more than plenty and that includes their travel and maintaining properties.

Whilst they don't pay iht on properties they don't privately own, they don't pay iht ont their private wealth that is passed down either which is my point. They should just like the rest of us have to.

Are you so determined that they do other than the fact that you and other William fans have decided he does alot behind the scenes we don't see. Yet noone actually knows

No. My point is indeed that no one actually knows. Yet the fact that he does nothing is often stated as fact by some. Or, as in the case of the poster I was replying to, insinuated by saying such things as “could being the operative word”. Well if we don’t know, we don’t know. You can’t have it both ways

BustingBaoBun · 04/10/2024 20:54

Please don't be embarrassed for me, I'd hate to cause you that
I'm allowed to find things amusing 😅

How tedious.

No but you like when you constantly comment and speculate about M&H you don't know either

That doesn't even make sense.

MyLongTenureIsBiggerThanYours · 04/10/2024 21:02

I’m torn between embarrassment and pity.

I think I’m allowed to feel that. 😅

That’s just what I was thinking 🤷‍♀️

Bontonbonbon · 04/10/2024 21:08

@Spectre8 No, you clearly don’t understand. Part of the uptick in spending was the renovation of Buckingham Palace, which is a national asset as it belongs to the Crown Estate. The renovation has taken many years and was deemed necessary because it is used for state events and is the official residence of the head of state. Quite a good chunk of that money is spent on upkeep of crown estate properties and staff salaries. It’s not going to the individuals as a personal pay check.

Spare me you half hearted Googling. I love the fact you haven’t addressed my point about the government. Why would they want to be represented by people who found royal tours boring and used them as a platform to moan about their lives. Royal tours are not personal PR exercises. They are paid for by the government as part of the development of international trade and relations. It’s a diplomatic role. The royal involves cannot thrown tantrums about their accommodation and skip out on engagements.

AutumnCrow · 04/10/2024 21:14

There are lots of photos that show that Harry is fond of a fairly substantial heel on his shoe, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with men liking a heel, or a longer toe.

MyLongTenureIsBiggerThanYours · 04/10/2024 22:06

I think long toed shoes are the very dab.

Also favoured by clowns.

Handy.

If no one actually knows, why do you suggest that William doesn't work hard enough?

Hughs · 04/10/2024 23:31

Fascinating to think a guy who is 6ft2 would wear lifts in his shoes! 🤣

I know - pathetic isn't it? 🙈

No good being 6'2" when William is 6'3".

(A bit like it's no good being born 3rd in line to the throne when William is 2nd.)

Well since speculation seems rife on this board then I might as well join in 😆

Ok, and you're comfortable with criticising other people for speculation while doing the same yourself? That's hypocrisy, no?

So? There is plenty of hypocrisy on here aswell? Just fitting in with how it is on this board 👌

Ah, so speculation and hypocrisy is the best response in a discussion? Strange.

BustingBaoBun · 05/10/2024 08:08

I think, after insistence that Harry wears lifts in his shoes because of a brother he doesn't see who is just one inch taller.... anything goes!

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2024 08:14

@BustingBaoBun . If you google Harry wearing lifts in shoes , there are lots of photos .

sausawyee · 05/10/2024 08:38

@MagdaLenor it's because there is nothing else certain posters can say at the moment. They are floundering to find anything positive.,

IAmATorturedPoet · 05/10/2024 08:40

Extra sausage, bigger bedroom, who has more hair.
These things obviously matter to this man so I can quite believe he would have an issue with being an inch shorter.

If you google Harry and William’s height, some sources say the difference is two whole inches. Which must be even worse for him, poor love 🙄

Ok, well it's certainly refreshing to see you admit to not just speculation but also hypocrisy in your criticism of others, so good on you for that 👍
