Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

They are just charity work tours. And most countries play National Anthems to lots of people, not just Royals.

During an official visit not long after the were married. I think it was to Wales. Prince Charles said - it’s not me they want to see, it’s my wife. He’s reputed to be disgruntled when he said it and that’s where the rumours of jealousy came from. It has also been said there was more to the comment and it came after he said to people on his side of the lineup - I’m sorry but you got me, my wife is over there. And that was when he turned and said - it’s not me they went to see. I can recall it as clear as day even down to what Diana was wearing that day. Not that I was there but it was widely reported on the news.

Taylor Swift donated millions to food banks on her recent tour. Millions. I don't remember her feeling the need to beneficently share her presence with eg the people of Liverpool while she sat on a dais and watched parades and dancing in her honour (although it might have been interesting and I can guarantee bigger crowds than H and M got in Colombia)

And I can just imagine the absolute fury from Americans if they had played the USA national anthem to these two in Columbia!

I remember that too and, when I read about him saying "I'm sorry, but you got me", I took it that he was paying a compliment to Diana - ie acknowledging her popularity and saying it in a good-humoured way.
I suppose it depends on how these things are interpreted and who by.

I think it's sad that Meghan's national anthem wasn't played back to back with Harry's in Nigeria. Maybe she could do a speech on women's empowerment through the post-modern lens of anthemic colonial and anti-colonial music: an intertextual narrative for the global future.

Hi, I always thought he was paying Diana a compliment as well. And that he was jokingly commiserating with the people who were getting him.

Agree.

Tabloids spun it in to "jealous" but you can't rule out self-deprecating humour based on that comment.

Was there anything else? I know there was some surprise at Diana's instant popularity and the crowds who turned out to see her, but is that really the same as jealousy?

I too thought Charles was being funny (ha ha not funny peculiar ) and self deprecating when apologising that people got to meet him and not Diana when on walkabout.

This is perfect and sums up WHY we have a Royal Family, and what their role uus.
Meghan failed to understand it - fair enough, she is from another country and culture.
Harry should have understood it but, for reasons I don't entirely understand, he has failed utterly.

She’s ignoring the question. I can’t imagine why. 🙄
