Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

Threads are started by their fans, too. Two running at the moment. Fine.
People gossip and "bitch" about all sorts of people on here. Including the other royals.
If you endeavour to get the clicks and the headlines, like the Sussexes do, it's going to happen.
Live by the sword and all that.

The working Royals are at least paid by the taxpayer. Commenting on them is akin to commenting on the conduct of an MP.
But Harry and Meghan are doing their own thing. I do not care if they visit a different charity every day, or spend their time making money. They are simply acting like a sub group of very rich people do. Its not unusual.

IsoldeWagner · 23/08/2024 16:11

Are the only people commented on those paid by the taxpayer? I think not. Celebrities of all kinds are discussed widely. We don't pay for the Kardashians, do we?
The Sussexes want us to talk about them because any publicity is good publicity. They need the clicks and the headlines. Otherwise, what are they? They're pursuing that lifestyle. Their choice.

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 16:15

I do not see anyone else discussed nearly as often as on here. And I have never seen another celebrity criticised for doing charity work and told they should just focus on making money. It is quite peculiar.

IsoldeWagner · 23/08/2024 16:18

It's because it's not "charity work". It's being quasi royal. They love it. Do you think they don't want lots of discussion threads on the internet?!
Meghan spent years hustling, trying to get into the press, magazines, events, get herself papped. I'm not saying that's wrong. I'm saying it's what they want.

Gorgonemilezola · 23/08/2024 16:20

But it's what they want. The only thing worse than being discussed to them would be not being discussed.

And 'charity work'?
All they're doing is piggy backing on the work of existing charities.

I find it peculiar when "charity work" apparently extends to quasi Royal tours where the British national anthem is played.

This thread exists because C5 made a two-part documentary about H&M that aired on prime-time weekend TV.

Edited

Piggy banking, more like.

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 16:22

@IsoldeWagner do you think only Royals visit charities? Because I can assure you plenty of rich people do as well. That is not quasi Royal work, it is just charity work.

The rf visit charities to showcase the charities, not themselves.

They are just charity work tours. And most countries play National Anthems to lots of people, not just Royals.

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 16:26

@Gorgonemilezola I disagree. But it does not really matter. Lots of rich people do this. But none of you have any opinion on that. It is peculiar.

So why didn't they play the Star Spangled Banner?

People like Angelina Jolie? Who highlights the work of the charity and doesn't pontificate. That sort of thing?

Do those other celebrities use royal titles? Have the National Anthem played? Inspect the troops?
Angelina Jolie has done none of those things, even when she came to meet the late Queen.
That's because she's a celebrity.

@Gorgonemilezola you will have to ask the Colombian government.
Harry is still British though? So maybe it is sexism and they play the national anthem relevant for the man?

Who on earth in the celebrity world gets the National Anthem played?! The Beckhams, the Clooneys, Taylor Swift, Jon Bon Jovi?! 😂
Come off it. Just the Sussexes.

Right. So if Benedict Cumberbatch went to visit a charity in Nigeria they'd play the National Anthem would they?

I hear the sound of a barrel being scraped

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 16:32

Elon Musk has had the national anthem played to him.

I met the Chuckle Brothers when I was on holiday in Spain once. I'm wondering if they had the Anthem played and inspected troops while people bowed and curtseyed and called them "Sir".

Were they selling jam though?
