Anyone watching this? It's on My5. I thought the first episode was interesting. I was reminded of how popular they were and how much support they got.

Why is there all this astrology shite being mentioned on this thread? Catherine is a nice person because she has been properly brought up. Meghan is unpleasant because she wasn't properly brought up. It's got bugger all to do with whether you were born on a Tuesday in February when the porridge is stirred widdershins with a goat's leg and the moon is waxing in Neptune, or whatever.

Absolutely this.

Astrology! Please spare us.

I'm always surprised that some people mistake being classy for boring, it says a lot about who they are and their values. I think it shows great strength and dignity to be able to live in the public eye and remain scandal free and humble.

Boring to me is thinking you are more important than anyone else, that your voice needs to be heard at all times and that you have great wisdom to impart to the masses, I'm bored to death with that

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 23/08/2024 14:15

I think she also fails to either understand or acknowledge how much of a leg-up she's had in her life, especially from her estranged father.

That seems to be rife in Hollywood TBH - so many nepo babies seemingly oblivious to how much of start they got in life.

Luddite26 · 23/08/2024 14:25

I apologise once again @CoffeeCantata

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 14:27

@Manypaws you make me laugh

It’s clear the Middletons just don’t do drama. I’m sure that’s one of the things which attracted William to the family.

And was probably a huge relief to the late Queen after the Diana and Fergie years. Even Sophie had her fake Sheik moment.

I bet they held their breath for several years waiting for something to blow up and the worst they got was a flash of dodgy uncle Gary and a bit of Pippa trying to teach everyone to ‘entertain’.

Calm, pleasant, no drama people are a bit boring I suppose but that’s only a bad thing of what you are hoping for is Jeremy Kyle levels of disfunction and soap opera type incidents.

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 14:45

@wordler The Middletons don't do drama! You have a very short memory indeed.

deeahgwitch · 23/08/2024 14:49

The one thing I can't understand is Harry never meeting Thomas Markle.
He raised Meghan from the age of 9 to 18, both Doria and he raised her together up to the age of 9 apparently ( according to Wikipedia ).
Where was Doria then ?

On social media Meghan proclaimed her love for her Dad, before he dirtied his bib by collaborating with the media, yet Harry never met him.
Most odd.

I was going to say this! It is so strange that he never met her dad. He obviously could fly to Canada under the radar so he could have made a covert trip. It comes across as so arrogant though. I would not think much ofy son on law if he hadn't made the effort to make a face to face introduction. Very rude behavior

Nadeed · 23/08/2024 14:56

@deeahgwitch maybe do not take as gospel everything you read on wikipedia? What you have stated from there is untrue.

The complete vacancy of people (apart from her mum) on Meghan's side of the church at the wedding was a red flag for me. How can someone in their mid 30s or whatever she was not have picked up loads of friends along the way, not to mention family.

Overall, if I had a friend who married a woman who was estranged from her family, and then shortly after the marriage he went NC with HIS family, I'd definitely be having words with him asking if he was all right.

Despite the alacrity with which people on SM (including here) suggest people go NC with family members at the slightest issue, it is, thankfully, very rare in real life. Family rifts and pass agg grudges that rumble on for years, absolutely. Total cutting off, it's odd. And sad. No family is perfect and every family has its scandals and dark places as Tolstoy so aptly summarised. Go NC at your peril. It will affect not just your life but everyone else's, including your children's.

Meghans parents divorced when she was 6, and Meghan lived with her mom Doria Ragland, a yoga instructor and social worker, after the separation.
After her parents split, Meghan moved with her mother into a top-floor apartment on South Cloverdale Avenue, Mid-Wilshire. Her father had an apartment behind the Hollywood strip, where Meghan would visit.
It is common when parents split for the child to see both parents.
It is common to see parents in a different light as you get older and grow up.

There may be good reasons why Meghan did not introduce Harry to her dad. Or do you expect her to tell the world their family secrets?

She seems quite happy for her husband to tell all his 🤷‍♀️

No worries, Luddite.

I don't believe in any of it...but I admit to being a typical Pisces! 😂

Serenster · 23/08/2024 11:56

As Queen Mary apparently once said to a relative “You are a member of the British Royal family. We are never tired, and we all love hospitals.” 🤣

And isn't it depressing on these threads that what seems to be amired aren't the people who quietly visit hospitals etc, but those who stage massive self-promoting productions with designer clothes and expensive jewellery and talk absolute piffle down a mic at every opportunity?

I can't believe grown adults actually give Meghan so much credit for doing the latter. Children - fair enough.

I think the best members of the RF are a bit like magnifying mirrors in a way. They reflect back the people they meet in the course of their duties who are often not famous but doing highly worthwhile things. The support of the royals enhances this work and those doing it, ensuring more attention is on them.

This is not what is happening with H and M and that might be OK, without the faux Royal tours, dubious awards and trumpeted "philanthropy" that is anything but. I'd actually rather see them concentrating on making the megabucks they need to survive in their current style, but they can't give up the (perceived) kudos of the self appointed World Saviour roles.

IsoldeWagner · 23/08/2024 15:34

I think it would be more honest if they just concentrated on making money. Pretending to be philanthropists and social warriors is so hypocritical.

Harry and Meghan are private citizens. Why do you care what they do?

Harry and Meghan are private citizens. Why do you care what they do?

Why don’t they give up their titles and rely on their “ skills” to earn a living ?

IsoldeWagner · 23/08/2024 15:53

Because they don't live privately. They're very public, high profile, controversial celebrities.
They want people to talk about them, it's their bread and butter. We're just obliging!

IsoldeWagner · 23/08/2024 15:56

It's like asking why people are interested in the Beckhams or the Kardashians.
Except I actually respect the Beckhams because they have worked for what they've got. To be fair, the KKs have too.

OP posts:
Nadeed · 23/08/2024 15:58

Loads of other people do not live privately. They are still private citizens.
I mean if you just want to gossip and bitch about them go ahead. But I do not understand why you care?
And by private citizens I mean we do not fund them as taxpayers.
I do not care if their titles are taken away, although I want Andrews to be taken away.
