The royal family

When members of the RF seek to undermine the UK I question the continuation of the monarchy

In my opinion Harry's Royal Tours are deliberately undermining both the RF and the UK government and interfering with international diplomacy.

I think the King needs to cast Harry adrift properly and in partnership with the government to remove all titles and privileges.

I don't think it's ok for H&M to trade on their status and privilege afforded to them by the UK to try to disrupt international relations. This affects all of us.

Would this mean the end of the monarchy? If so-get touring, Harry!!

😂so ironic for a couple of arch royalists!
However, that's sometimes how it goes.

pearlfritillary · 16/08/2024 18:41

@Puzzledandpissedoff Harry is a non working royal and now 5th in line. If Princess Anne doesn't get security when not on a working royal role why should Harry? Harry was given very generous terms and he has griped about those terms ever since. He isn't entitled to IPP status (thankfully!).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/08/2024 18:50

If Princess Anne doesn't get security when not on a working royal role why should Harry?

Clearly he shouldn't get it automatically any more than Anne does, @pearlfritillary, but I was thinking more about if a real risk had been identified

In those circumstances I'd hope the security services would step in for both of them, and while I don't like Harry's behaviour I certainly wouldn't want an assassin to get him

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 16/08/2024 18:57

not letting them have the “half in half out” deal that would have given the palace some sort of influence and control is looking more and more foolish. The assumption was they’d go away quietly, that’s increasingly looking incredibly naive. you can’t treat them like Peter Philips or Zara, Harry and Meghan are too popular/famous/interesting to the public, they appear to have no desire to fade into obscurity, and the press really don’t want them to. (Particularly in the absence of Kate for interesting Royal stories and William not really doing much either, but then the late Queen couldn’t really predict this.)

He'll get a proper level of protection. No-one is going to take that risk.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 16/08/2024 19:03

The Sussexes are clearly now rent a royals and their tours have nothing to do with diplomacy or the UK any more.

The whole world and their dog will have heard that H&M have left the Firm and there is no harm done by them talking to the vice president of Colombia. She is free to talk to whoever - she is accountable to Colombian voters and I doubt that they are particularly bothered (excluding cost to taxpayers )

I doubt anyone in the RF thought Harry and Meghan would go into obscurity! A less likely couple I can't think of!
They all knew how H&M loved the royal status, wealth and privilege, so the RF were faced with a couple who would try to get in the headlines and try to be celebrities, or monetise their royal connections and be quasi royal.
What they didn't reckon was that Harry and Meghan would do both: lead a very royal life, be headline grabbing, monetising titles and status, act like celebrities and also have the "royal" tours.
I think they also underestimated how mendacious and greedy they would be.

Gorgonemilezola · 16/08/2024 19:40

'Harry and Meghan are too popular/famous/interesting to the public, they appear to have no desire to fade into obscurity, and the press really don’t want them to.'

'The public' watch the antics through their fingers waiting for the next wtf moment. They're not popular with the public at all, or interesting. What they have is entertainment value, and not in a good way.

You claim the press don't want them to fade into obscurity, but they're not top of the news, especially with the less trashy outlets. They were trending about 28 places below mpox on twitter earlier this evening. Their antics gain clicks for the more salacious outlets, but they're rapidly becoming a bit of a joke in a 'What will the daft pair do next' kind of way.

I just hope they don't up the ante and do something reeealllly stupid in a bid to stay relevant and keep the $$$$$$ flowing in.

I agree.

DelectableMe · 16/08/2024 19:43

The press don't "want" anything. It's about the clicks. Today it's been about the Love Island couple or mpox or the sentencing of those yobs.
The "press" don't care. They'll move onto the next thing.
However. Harry and Meghan will care because they need the headlines and the clicks to maintain their celebrity.

I imagine that the family, particularly the late Queen, would not have imagined that the Sussexes would have said or done the things they have. I’m sure that the Queen would have only wanted to think the best of her grandson. The Sussexes said they wanted half in and half out but was only after they were told “no” that their antics began. The Queen couldn’t really have back tracked and allowed them what they wanted after that. It’s tantamount to giving in to blackmail

Ohpleeeease · 16/08/2024 20:00

Charles’ options regarding the titles are limited unfortunately. He can’t just unilaterally remove the Dukedom, he needs an Act of Parliament.

I’m interested to see what happens when they divorce. I think Meghan will cling to her title for all she’s worth.

I think the complete opposite.

If they were "half in" there is the risk that some interlocuters might think that what they said was officially endorsed by HMG

This way, it's clear (to diplomats and officials at least) that they have no such role. Might not stop the ill-intentioned trying to use them as useful idiots, but at least definitively "out" gives a clarity that would minimise real harm.

SecretsofthePenguins · 16/08/2024 20:08

It's all really starting to look very sad and increasingly weird. What is the point of these tours they are doing. Even this social media campaign stuff, they seem to just be repeating the sort of banalities you listen to on stuff like the Jeremy Vine call ins.

They don't seem to be getting much coverage on this one either. Harry has imploded his life, for what. I take no pleasure in seeing him diminished in this way. Where do they even go from here.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/08/2024 20:13

Where do they even go from here.

Wherever they want. They're minted and famous. And he's a Prince, even if you don't like it.🤷‍♀️

He can remove the Prince title, though he won’t, William might however.

Not minted enough for the billionaire lifestyle to which they aspire, they probably feel quite poor compared to the Hollywood elite.

Well, perhaps countries where dodgy politicians want the kudos of an official visit from pseudo royals to legitimise their position.

Kimmeridge · 16/08/2024 20:20

I think the RF probably reckon leaving him with his Dukedom is probably a safer option than removing it. Remove it and they'll take great delight in rebranding themselves Prince & Princess Henry - knowing there's a good chance she'll be referred to as Princess M.

Can you imagine how insufferable they'd be then

That’s why it would be better to remove the Prince title, it will never happen though.

I wouldn’t be too sure about William as I imagine he is very angry .
