The royal family

When members of the RF seek to undermine the UK I question the continuation of the monarchy

In my opinion Harry's Royal Tours are deliberately undermining both the RF and the UK government and interfering with international diplomacy.

I think the King needs to cast Harry adrift properly and in partnership with the government to remove all titles and privileges.

I don't think it's ok for H&M to trade on their status and privilege afforded to them by the UK to try to disrupt international relations. This affects all of us.

Everyone knows they do not represent the Royal Family or the UK, or even Britain.
They can issue a statement like this every time if they want to. It will make them look petty as hell, but go ahaed.

I'm not sure everyone does know that. Harry and Meghan play up their titles for all it's worth and Harry made a bit of a tit of himself in Canada. The UK national anthem was played when they went to Nigeria. It wouldn't be 'petty' for the FCO at all.

Nadeed · 20/08/2024 16:12

Countries can play the national anthem for any official visitor they are welcoming. They do not need to be visiting on behalf of the country as a statesperson.

Gorgonemilezola · 20/08/2024 16:26

Harry and Meghan live in the US. I didn't hear The Star Spangled Banner........

It won't make a sovereign nation look "petty" to distance themselves from ambitious celebrities who may like to appear as if they have some sort official status.
It's worthwhile noting that such celebrities may give the impression that their "status" holds importance and that they represent a government in any way. It does not.

Really? What celebrities got the National Anthem played for them, then they inspected the troops as Harry did? George Clooney?. Angelina Jolie?

Mischance · 20/08/2024 17:07

They are now independent of the RF. They were invited to go, they went. End of story.

That's the thing though.

They are not 'official' visitors. They represent nothing other than themselves, and perhaps whatever C list designer Meghan is merching for.

When have you ever heard a national anthem being played publicly in a foreign country, other than at an international sports event or diplomatic occasion?

If they were independent they wouldn’t need titles to make them relevant ; they would have confidence in their abilities .

DelectableMe · 20/08/2024 18:48

Ah, yes. True independence would be dropping the titles for themselves and their children. Highly unlikely.

Not RTFT, but I honestly feel like H&M are wearing their 'bullying attitude shirts' when it comes to the UK, suggesting that they're afraid that MM will get attacked if she comes here 🤬 ffs - they go to some of the worlds most dangerous countries in their faux royal trips, making a spectacle of themselves - I bloody hope it's very clear to these countries that it's a self promoting fake royal visit and they don't represent our country in the slightest

If they are really worried about attacks, then of course they should stay away.

I don't quite see why it would be so risky to fly in unannounced, travel incognito to Balmoral (summer) or Sandringham (Christmas) and be perfectly safe within the protection that exists round those estates.

However, they are disinclined to do that, and it's their call.

I doubt they'd want to appear in public though - as they aren't working royals, the only possible royal one would be going to church on Christmas Day, or weddings/funerals. And they are too worried about security to make ones outside the royal protection ring remotely likely.

DelectableMe · 22/08/2024 12:11

I think the biggest risk is people not cheering them and there not being enough cameras and flashbulbs. That's their real problem.

Tbf what would they actually do that would take them outside royal protection circles? Meghan has no one here she is close to and Harry seems to have lost touch with his friends 🤷‍♀️

DelectableMe · 22/08/2024 12:14

Nothing. Balmoral, Sandringham and Windsor Castle must be among the most secure places in the world!
As I recall, when they lived in the UK there was not one pap picture of them.
They live in Canada and the USA...
guess what?!

But isn't Harry triggered by flashbulbs? So that shouldn't be a problem for him.

Well, if you watched that C5 documentary plus any other footage it's obvious that he loves the cameras and loves the clicks and flashes! He's smiling, pausing, posing and waving like a good 'un.
Funny that.

Crumpledfrock · 22/08/2024 12:26

Do they not realise how hypocritical they are? Obviously not.

IG 2025, contacts with the other charities they have ongoing links to

DelectableMe · 22/08/2024 12:47

Yes, @EdithWeston I can imagine a charity photoshoot for the headlines, or Meghan wanting a fashion photoshoot for $$$$. Or meeting mates in the Cotswolds. They'd want full on security for that sort of thing.

Maybe they could invite these contacts to a royal palace to meet them 🤷‍♀️

lucette1001 · 22/08/2024 15:10

I'm intrigued to know whether they are being paid to go on these tours? After the famous MM remark that she couldn't believe she wasn't being paid for a visit when they were actually still "in", should we assume she is now being paid? And by whom?

Well, quite. I can think of over half a dozen palaces, castles and royal houses with established security arrangements and protocols off the top of my head. No booing in those, either, if that's what the problem is.
