Harry seems to have stuck with Senetebele and Travalyst and Invictus and Scottys Little Soldiers. I don't know what the Travalyst actually does but the others are all good. But Harry had the advantage of a much longer association with specific organisations, and of course had resources when he set them all up.

I get the sense Meghan is still not quite focused on what she wants to do. It must be hard though to create things on your own, things are usually created by a team.

I know all about that thanks. I didn't say otherwise.

She is still involved with it.

How?

Thedom · 06/08/2024 18:20

This is going to be huge and a way for people all over the world to come together.

I think this is probably overwhelmingly optimistic, I doubt it will ever reach a global audience TBH, and the US is so vast and insular that I doubt they will make much inroads on this. Outside of their PR buying them a segment on a morning show, I would be surprised if it gains much traction at all, they didn't even seem that convinced themselves about it.

WinnieTheW0rm · 06/08/2024 18:29

MummyJ12 · 06/08/2024 15:44

Also need to add that I think the question asked was, which original initiatives, or projects have they set up themselves from scratch and stayed with, that are successful in their achievements, growth and longevity?
As @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar posted, Smart Works was already developed. Meghan is the patron, it’s not her project.

I’m not sure that setting up is the key thing.

But I do think that longevity in sticking with a focussed interest matters. Neither the Princess Royal nor the Duchess of Edinburgh have initiated anything. But both have developed expertise and credibility over time as a result of really learning their patch (Save The Children for Anne, and VAWG, FGM and rape as a tool of war for Sophie) before trying to influence anything. And now they are internationally respected in those fields.

H&M haven’t had the time to develop that depth. Harry might be able to grow into it with veterans affairs (or won’t work with Sentebale until African Parks is sorted out); I think Meghan remains too scattergun to predict yet what she might have achieved 15 years from now

PoppysAunt · 06/08/2024 18:58

@WinnieTheW0rm - you make a good point about Sopie and Anne both developing expertise and credibility. Working with organisations for years, developing good knowledge and understanding, promoting the cause without promoting themselves. You have to be able to have the qualities of self awareness, respect for the work of others, and ability to shine a light on the organisation. I don't think Meghan has the capacity to do any of that.
I think she's probably better off going down the trad wife route she seems to favour - jam making, tv and magazine interviews, clothes modelling and hanging on to her husband.

pearlfritillary · 06/08/2024 19:27

I agree with @PoppysAunt & @WinnieTheW0rm . Sophie is the Patron of the NSPCC.

I submitted my complaint to the relevant NSPCC contact, (letter submitted via email), and it has been acknowledged.

They did state in the initial email response

'Please note that the NSPCC are receiving a higher number of contacts during this period'

hmmmm, I wonder why.

It is a worthwhile endeavour and seems close to the couple's heart. The comments on this thread highlight why, sadly, such projects are needed.

What heart?!!

StrawberriesandCreamTea · 05/08/2024 12:30

It clearly is bias as Meghan has not done or said anything that warrants the continued negative beliefs and trolling of what she does and says. Being picked apart in order to dehumanise her is just outright disgusting.

Oh open your eyes!!

I think they can stick with things that are already established and have a full team driving a project forward - where all they have to do is turn up occasionally for photo opportunities or awards.

Where they fall down is actually driving anything forward themselves. They have ideas (whether or not they're good ones is a different matter) and they like the positive PR they get from announcing these ideas - but when it comes to graft and actually delivering, if it rests on their shoulders it just doesn't happen. And it's not even like they don't have help! They've got a full team to support them so there's no excuse really.

I can't think of a single new positive initiative (since they left the RF) that they've actually delivered on, after the first flurry of PR.

The notable exceptions for what's made it out would be the whineathons of Spare (ghostwritten by someone else) and the documentary (produced by Netflix). And of course the podcast, which by all accounts Spotify had to fully produce for them, and MM couldn't even be bothered to interview all the guests herself.

Runnerinthenight · 06/08/2024 19:39

StrawberriesandCreamTea · 05/08/2024 12:59

No, this is about them trying to keep themselves relevant.

Then why talk about her if you think she is irrelevant. Anyone can say gossipy babble about her but it only serves to stack up as rubbish when set against Meghan’s lifelong commitment to helping others which is very well documented. So she bagged a Prince and left a country where tabloids inspired criticism and hateful trolling of unprecedented proportions. She now operates outside of this country and continues to advocate and put their charity in the driving seat to work for change. She is living her life and just because you don’t want her to have a platform does not mean she has to live under a rock. As she said in the interview she has barely scraped the surface of what her experience with suicide ideation means. It changes you forever and being called out as a liar because it looks a certain way when seen in public reveals nothing about the internal struggle. She isn’t playing the victim, she was victimised and is now on a journey to come to terms with that. If it helps others by sharing her experiences then that is and remains a good outcome for those who suffer too. Mental health conditions remain highly stigmatised.

I think it’s also quite likely that it was Harry who blocked her from inhouse treatment either in the US or the Priory here. He admitted he responded as “institutional Harry” but gave scant detail as to what he meant by this. Ultimately, he may find and Meghan too that no matter the support he now gives that it will lead to them going their separate ways. Meghan is forever changed and it takes years of work on the self to understand the impact of those changes. If their marriage survives I will be pleasantly surprised. I am hoping she writes about her experiences also and expect a book to be published either in 2025 or 2026.

If you believe that, you will believe anything.

Starting things from scratch is so hard. I don't think less of them for that but I do wonder when they are going to realise that all their PR announcements producing very little of substance long term are damaging their brand for the future.

I really can’t get my knickers in a twist about two royal individuals who are doing good works and being invited to countries and to highlight an international conference that will be taking place in Colombia.

@elprup thank you for posting the Madonna interview. Fascinating. I wonder if Meghan had seen it (?)

I thought it was interesting in the M & H interview that M shows some particular discomfort about not being ‘believed’.

I think it’s a shame further meetings will be online re: bereaved parents, whilst convenient, community & connection offer much more comfort.

Glad you enjoyed it! I found Jane Pauley’s interview style, and the dynamic between her and Madonna, quite fascinating!

Interview transcript -

Interviewer - Hello

Megan - me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, I'm a victim, me, me, me ...

Absolutely agree @PoppysAunt the only people getting their knickers in a twist are those deflecting away from this nonsense, agenda to censor and control initiative.

I don’t want to go over why I find this whole thing so offensive as I have on another thread. But I do want to highlight the hypocrisy of these two by posting a link which has the Good Morning America interview with Valentine Low. It is clear that Meghan has bullied her staff in the past. She is the last person who should be driving any kind of anti-bullying campaign. She needs to look closer to home first. I only wish that bullying report would be released or, at least release the people involved from their NDAs. I hope the link works because it’s a really interesting interview.

Just like a year ago "Meet Me at the Lake" and something or other based on the back story of Miss Havisham were going to be huuuuuge.

I'm curious about the purpose of the squaddies/bots who pop up all over this board. Is it supposed to persuade the rest of us that Harry and Meghan are actually great? Because honestly it just makes them seem really weird.

I think they think they’re disrupting and discouraging critical thought. They certainly can’t engage in any balanced discourse themselves.

The problem with an online forum is that it can't ever be completely 'safe'. You can lock it down and try to make things confidential, but it only takes one person to screenshot something and it is out in the world.

I've been on online forums where stuff like this has happened. I've been on closed FB groups where one member has reported another one to social services.

Personally, I think online communities are inheritantly risky and I don't think this initiative is particularly sound.
