H & M announce a visit to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

Colombia is magical. Full of the kindest people I have met anywhere in the world. The most incredible and diverse scenery and amazing culture. Lucky them, I’d love to go back one day!

What is the point of these ‘tours’? They’re not royals anymore, so why do they want to tour random countries? Agree that they’re becoming a laughing stock now.

I was surprised,

1. Westminster

Overall Crime Rate Of 440 Crimes Per 1000 People

Shockingly, the most dangerous area of England and Wales is the hub for all things written into law and governance. Home to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster’s overwhelming tourist popularity brings with it a tidal wave of criminality, leading to its overall crime rate of a staggering 440 crimes per 1000 residents.

Digging deeper, Westminster’s main problems arise from an unmatched rate of theft (65,020 incidents), which accounts for more than 69% of all crime in the borough. That’s alongside equally alarming numbers in violent crime (11,958 incidents), vehicle offences (4,503 incidents) and public order offences (4,024 incidents).”

Good try

'Overall Crime Rate Of 440 Crimes Per 1000 People' 😁😁😁😁
You do realise these figures are from a private security firm........ Obviously touting for business.

The police, however, have figures of about 100 per thousand head of population.

Something planned and risky will happen, à la her hairy scary car chase in NY, so he can say, look Pa, I need security, look what you’ve done

That’s it, exactly.

There’s nothing wrong with visiting Columbia. The travel advice against it is for a few certain parts. I have two separate friends who’ve recently visited and loved it and a good friend who lives there. How bizarre

Twistybranch · 01/08/2024 23:21

Amazing the number of posters that know someone that has visited Colombia. Not themselves……just someone they know

Its that’s time of night again, the images and emojis to follow

How many parts of the UK are on the don't travel unless necessary 🤔

That’s the thing though - they may be in a less safer country than the UK, but in reality be safer there. As they are less likely to encounter targeted hatred.

Some people on here can’t even stand an awkward night at the in-laws - talk less of spending time in a country where the media and a portion of the public hate you.

There’s no need to put your family through that.

Why wouldn’t posters know people that have travelled there? It’s not a remote island.

My colleague has just got back (though she’s from there).

Hatred….you mean people booing them if they come to the UK?

Colombia has armed gangs, kidnappings etc

Youre reaching!

Gorgonemilezola · 01/08/2024 23:27

So why is Harry making such a palaver about his security in the UK?

Gorgonemilezola · 01/08/2024 23:29

I mean if they have no intention of visiting.

Have you travelled to a destination with Foreign Office warnings before? - The warnings are usually about certain regions.

For example there is a high warning about terrorism in South Africa - but I’m sure there are many flights with tourists on their way to Cape Town as we speak.

As for the booing - I’m sure we all know there have been numerous violent threats online.

He is spending hundred of thousands of pounds on security legal case supposedly just for UK visits, he has criticised those who provide security for failing to do their job. If he has no intention of putting his family through that why not just leave alone. So it’s either Harry’s vanity case or trying to gain IPP which would be a slap in the face, deemed IPP for a country that he claims is hostile.

Edited

Yes but those people choosing to travel to SA or other places that have FO guidance don’t expect to be supplied with taxpayer funded security because of their ‘status’

Do you think our security services are incapable of assessing a current threat level? No one wants anything to happen to any VIP here. They will receive security according to any current credible threats if they give notice that they are coming here. So they would be quite safe apart from hurt feelz 🙄

My point was - I don’t think they are worried about a few boos. 🙄

Desperation to prove to themselves that they are relevant.

Why are they announcing their trips? Do they think they are royal / that anybody is interested?

You don't see Posh'n'Becks announcing their foreign travel in the same way. Come to think of it, you don't see many royals announcing their trips either.

I was just about to write the same thing. Why are they announcing their trips - they aren't Royalty? Who cares where they go? They seem to have a very high opinion of their importance.

Namechangejust · 02/08/2024 00:23

Well my son went to South America 10 years ago ..Columbia was the only country he avoided.
