H & M announce a visit to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

If your wife had been denied treatment and treated so terribly, why would you want a half in half out option of working for the ‘ institution ’

Not only that, but publicly propose this option mere months after this medical episode supposedly happened.

I believe (and it is my opinion so not fact) that M was not S, never was, never has been. If she was so mentally fragile then it beggars belief that she is not feeling even worse now when dislike of her is at a global high. She only ever talks about it in the context of her ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ time in the RF. She’s been out of it longer than she was in it and has been (rightly) vilified for some of her behaviour since , yet it’s all water off a duck’s back to her now she’s in California.

She is a master manipulator but now her manipulations have a global platform we can all see it.

Colombia is an increasingly popular surrogacy destination. Westerners who can't afford USA, don't want to do the altruistic friendship model in the UK, heading to Colombia to rent a womb and buy a baby.
It's disgusting colonialism, outsourcing pregnancy to an impoverished woman and trafficking babies.

Be nice if the feminist Meghan would say something about this, but that's not very likely.

She only talks about herself and how she is an inspiration to many - her struggle from poverty to where she is now talking about herself .

sausawyee · 11/08/2024 13:11

It will be interesting to see if Meghan brings her own Nigerian heritage to Colombia with her clothing . Francia has developed her wardrobe around her African heritage. Sadly even within that community there are some who criticise other black women eg Michelle Obama because they don't do this. 🤷‍♀️

The Queen was visiting as a Head of State. She was in an official capacity and thus had full security protection, with the protection service and Foreign Office coordinating the event.
This wasn't a personal jolly for her and Philip to line their coffers.

I was responding to
I do hope they are safe as yet again they will be leaving 2 very children in another country .

  • I know QE2 went as head of state but she was still their mother and going to an unsafe country. Nobody said at the time that her leaving such young children must have had an impact on them but it has been mentioned since - nothing about the effect their father leaving them might have had however. H&M's security will be paid for by the people of Colombia apparently which must go down like a lead balloon.
Thedom · 11/08/2024 14:04

Meghan never uttered a single word about the atrocities carried out against young girls, children and women in Nigeria. Not before, during, nor after their trip.

Doubt she will mention anything in Colombia either.

Can't upset the paylords.

Humanitarians, yeah right 😤.

She had protection verified by the. Foreign Office Her children were not at risk because their mother was not on an unofficial jolly to make some dosh.
There is a difference.

I really wish that Charles would have a word with some UK media editors and put a blanket ban on reporting about these two. Remove their oxygen at source. Everything they do is for attention and at this point, it's now obvious that they'll jump on any and every bandwagon for publicity. They are a disgrace pretending that they have anything to offer bereaved parents ffs.

Gorgonemilezola · 11/08/2024 14:40

Much as it might be nice, I don't think Charles wields so much power Grin

OlympicWomen · 11/08/2024 14:48

Charles has no power over the press. I bet sometimes he wish he did!

You’re right but there was a telegraph article the other day saying the H&M stuff just isn’t landing in the US. So this Colombia trip hasn’t really made any headlines in the kinds of papers they would want (NYT etc)

I think these types of trips will die a slow death as the only place that really reports on them are the UK press but that won’t last forever. They’re lucky if they get another 5 years of this type of attention.

Then Meghan will be nearly 50 and the Wales children will be teenagers. The press will naturally shift attention.

You don't need to use bold, I am wearing my glasses. I didn't really expect to have a well-balanced discussion re my opinion so I haven't been disappointed but will add that it's not always the case that posters are 100% for or 100% against H&M - I'm certainly neither though I do lean quite strongly to the anti side.

I think once Prince George hits the 16-18 year age range the attention will shift a lot more to him and his siblings. H&M will be completely irrelevant by then. They won’t have any big deals, no one will care about her five minutes in the RF way back when.

In the meantime I quite enjoy the panto.

Apropos of nothing I came across this gif of Princess Anne having words with Harry. A long time ago. Poor guy nearly dropped his service sheet, he's cornered with nowhere to go and shaking at the knees. And I love that Sophie, appears to have turned to chat to Anne, quickly seen that something else is going down and carried on turning til her eyes met Tim Laurence who also looks mighty relieved to have someone else to talk to. I'd love to see the full length of this exchange I must say. Grin

Hope the gif link works - I've no idea how to do it on Mumsnet.

I was clarifying because you didn't appear to understand my point about the difference between a very secure HoS visit and a money making headline grabbing jolly.

Charles can't put a 'blanket' ban', or any other sort of ban, on what the newspapers print! It's a constitutional monarchy, not a dictatorship.

This comes up a lot. Some people really don't understand what a constitutional monarchy is and what that entails. Or that H and M don't represent the Monarchy anymore or the UK. Or that they're somehow equivalent to the late Queen.....

Has Meghan recently discovered hitherto unknown Columbian ancestry? I must have missed that.

Lol I know what you mean and I’m guilty as charged.

When they aren’t in the papers or tv I don’t miss them at all and would like it if they quietly disappeared in to the sunset permanently, but when they are in the news I quite enjoy picking them apart (there’s so much material after all). I guess I can channel my inner bitch at a couple I don’t feel guilty bitching about 😁
