H & M announce a visit to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

So many of you are having to explain who certain members of the RF are as certain posters have no real idea. They have been attracted into the whole scenario because of the " poor Meghan " thing and the racist thing. Johnny come latelys. Ignorant of what went before Meghan's arrival on the scene.

The die-hard Meghan fans will never allow themselves to think critically about how she behaves. If they did they would have to admit a lot of things she says don’t add up and a lot of things she does end up as failures.

There are many resources for help with suicide in the US. My train platforms are covered with signs with free numbers to call for help. Anyone calling a city info number will be directed to help. Schools have parent coordinators, who job it is to provide parents with info. They have counselors and social workers to work with kids. I would direct people to confidential sites staffed with professionals.

Don't spoil it, BemusedAmerican; the generally preferred narrative on MN is that America's a racist, gun infested hellhole where there's absolutely no support for those suffering from - well, anything really Wink

And yes, signposting to professional support is clearly a wise thing to do, which is why I've queried whether the advertised provision on the new website actually exists

@AvrielFinch

If you don't know who the Duchess of Kent is, then you don't know the royal family very well at all.

Exactly.

@spanieleyes I am Australian, and was a small child when the D&D of Kent got married. For some reason it was shown repeatedly on our TV stations and I watched it, over and over, gobsmacked at the splendour of the whole event. It was my first experience of how the royals do things.

OlympicWomen · 06/08/2024 08:36

The Duchess of Kent doesn't have a boy's name! Are you thinking of her SIL, Princess Michael of Kent?

Katherine Worsley, from Yorkshire. I apologise if I've mis-spelt. Did they get married in York Minster? I mean Katherine and the Duke of Kent. Lovely woman. Quite fragile, latterly. I believe the late QE was very kind and supportive of her. I've missed reading a few pages so you probably all said this yesterday.

@BigWillyLittleTodger I do not claim to know much about the Royal Family. Ask most people in Britain. They would all know who Meghan is, and few would know who the Duchess of Kent is. I am older and do not remember her presenting trophies. I am sure she did, but she did not enter my memory, just another minor Royal. There used to be a lot more of them about back then.

Being older has nothing to do with it. Plenty of older people know who the Duchess of Kent is because she was a prominent member of the royal family. She presented the trophy at Wimbledon for years, you couldn’t miss it.

They did marry in York Minster, I saw it on TV, including the royals (the Queen etc), getting off the train in York to go to the wedding. Katherine Wolesley looked very pretty indeed. Princess Anne was a bridesmaid. It was a happy occasion, a real love match and everybody loved her! She is a great lady.

Why are you asking for something that no member of the Royal Family gave Meghan? As has been highlighted in many, many places Meghan received death threats and terrible racist coverage in our national media. Not once did a member of the RF speak up about it. Instead it was left to ordinary decent people, women MPs, other countries and the formation of an online group of Sussex supporters to speak out. As with any supporters many of the Sussex Squad are unpalatable and over the top. However, just as many Catherine fans go for Meghan regularly and have said vile, criminal stuff that has led to prosecutions. Meghan and Harry have asked for peace for Catherine and Meghan herself said Catherine was a good person. I think considering the royal family did not have her back it is more than anyone would do in her position. I’ve no doubt the UK is in her rear view mirror and she is carrying on with her own life. She shows up and does good, always has done throughout her life. Rehashing the past does not achieve anything either.

It's about time they all packed up,and went home.

Who's 'they all' and home is where?

sausawyee · 11/08/2024 00:29

Coming up soon. Lots of negative press already by Colombians who resent their taxes being spent on this trip.

sausawyee · 11/08/2024 00:34

Seems like Francia is a controversial figure in Colombia. Likes to use helicopters despite preaching environmentalism 😉

Cannot wait to see this shit show

OlympicWomen · 11/08/2024 08:39

I am so looking forward to it! That pair are very entertaining 😄!

Mylovelygreendress · 11/08/2024 09:40

I am sure it will be entertaining for all the wrong reasons but, as with Nigeria, I do hope they are safe as yet again they will be leaving 2 very children in another country .

Thedom · 11/08/2024 09:42

According to the DM ....

LOL, they really do know how to pick 'em.

"Vice president Marquez, 42, made global headlines, too, for her remarkable backstory as a dirt-poor woman who worked as a maid while raising her two sons as a single mother.

She was put in charge of Colombia's first ministry for equality in 2023 – which critics claim has yet to do anything meaningful with the millions of pesos in its budget.

A source said: 'She came in promising to help poor people – especially women. Instead, like everyone who gets a taste of power, she's enjoying it.'

Marquez has been accused of taking helicopters 'like taxis' (she says she uses them because of the threats against her) and of spending millions on a new home where she now lives instead of the official vice president's residence."

'Francia Marquez is the biggest fraud in our black community. She's been in office for two years and has done nothing, only play the victim and travel around in helicopters.'

President Gustavo Petro ....."And, in July, the president was accused of cheating on his wife, Veronica Alcocer, with transgender TV host Linda Yepes. They were pictured walking hand-in-hand during a trip to neighbouring Panama.

But Petro's son has been accused of corruption, facing up to 25 years in jail on multiple charges. " They do like them money launderers.

Is this going to surpass the Nigeria trip with the number of corrupt people they are going to be socialising and taking freebies from.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/08/2024 09:45

They really need the wisdom of the men in grey suits at times like this . The tour has disaster written all over it .

ThePoshUns · 11/08/2024 09:47

They're being used as props again and taken for fools. They will never learn. However I am here for the entertainment, they're the gift that keeps on giving.

ShamedBySiri · 11/08/2024 10:21

Colombia is an increasingly popular surrogacy destination. Westerners who can't afford USA, don't want to do the altruistic friendship model in the UK, heading to Colombia to rent a womb and buy a baby.
It's disgusting colonialism, outsourcing pregnancy to an impoverished woman and trafficking babies.

Be nice if the feminist Meghan would say something about this, but that's not very likely.

OP posts:
OlympicWomen · 11/08/2024 10:22

Meghan won't say anything. She'll limit herself to criticism of the UK. Also the RF.
That's her sphere of criticism.

Lifestooshort71 · 11/08/2024 12:19

Mylovelygreendress · 11/08/2024 09:40

I am sure it will be entertaining for all the wrong reasons but, as with Nigeria, I do hope they are safe as yet again they will be leaving 2 very children in another country .

It will be no different to the late Queen visiting Ghana in 1965 just after recent bombing incidents in Accra, Andrew and Edward were both very young but I don't remember there being an outcry at her leaving them at home. H&M's children will be in safe hands in their home country and they themselves will have protection provided by their host country.

OlympicWomen · 11/08/2024 12:28

The Queen was visiting as a Head of State. She was in an official capacity and thus had full security protection, with the protection service and Foreign Office coordinating the event.
This wasn't a personal jolly for her and Philip to line their coffers.
