H & M announce a visit to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

There are many resources for help with suicide in the US. My train platforms are covered with signs with free numbers to call for help. Anyone calling a city info number will be directed to help. Schools have parent coordinators, who job it is to provide parents with info. They have counselors and social workers to work with kids. I would direct people to confidential sites staffed with professionals.

sausawyee · 06/08/2024 00:00

So many of you are having to explain who certain members of the RF are as certain posters have no real idea. They have been attracted into the whole scenario because of the " poor Meghan " thing and the racist thing. Johnny come latelys. Ignorant of what went before Meghan's arrival on the scene.

AvrielFinch · 06/08/2024 00:48

I have lived in the UK for a very long time now. I watch the TV news every day and listen to Radio Four. I do not read tabloids, so I have not followed Royal gossip. But I am well aware of big Royal news and the main characters. Minor Royals are perhaps well known to regular posters on here. Although when I googled Duchess of Kent a lot of articles titled, Who is the Duchess of Kent were suggested to me. But outside of people who follow every bit of Royal news, only the principal Royals are known.

Ref Meghan wanting inpatient care and being denied, I believe she made this claim in the Netflix documentary (which I didn't watch, but I remember it being discussed.)

It wasn't the Queen but the "institution" she blames.

“I went to the institution, and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help. I said that I’ve never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere. And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/meghan-harry-suicidal-thoughts-cbs-royal-family-b2591168.html

My reading of this is that Meghan wanted to go check in somewhere high profile like the Priory and the palace advised against it, probably for reasons of discretion rather than any desire to prevent her getting help - but this was spun by MM to suit her narrative.

OlympicWomen · 06/08/2024 05:18

What evidence do you have that "The Palace" advised against Meghan getting the care she wanted? It's nonsense, it's not even up to them. As if anyone would stop a pregnant woman getting help! She just needed to talk to her consultant and go on her recommendation. Private, confidential and, one would hope, effective.

Wimbledon is an international event.
The person presenting the trophies is famous.

But the RF still comprises the same people. I doubt that they thought of getting the Duchess of Kent treatment was a precedent, just something you arrange for a relative with a health problem. And I bet it was her husband, not HR or the Queen who was her first port of call.

But full marks for ingenuity in dismissing proof that the RF really doesn't have a problem with the optics of in-patient mental health care with a "well, it was all such a long time ago".

Not quite what I was saying but well done you

At King Charles' Coronation they released an image of the current Senior Working members of the Royal family. The gentleman on the left of that photo is the Duke of Kent, the Duchess is not included because she has retired from duty.

I'm not sure how much more evidence we can provide to show that the Kents are not and have never been minor royals. At this point your refusal to admit you are wrong is fascinating.

I tried to attach the photo but it won't work for some reason.

I'm sorry, but if you are British and have had a pulse since the 1060s you will know who the Duchess of Kent is.

I'm 52, and she was frequently in the news in the 70s and 80s. Next to Princess Margaret she was the most glamorous Royal and the media treated her as such. Until Diana came on the scene.

Catherine, Meghan (& to some extent) Zara are the DOK, Princess Margaret, Diana, Fergie of this generation.

Your comment that you have lived in the UK a long time shows why you don't know her. You weren't living in the UK when she was regularly in the newspapers and in TV reports. That's fine. But that's you. It explains why you don't know her. For the vast majority of us growing up in Britain in the 60s & 70s she was very well known.

I posted a link earlier. Princess Margaret received treatment at The Priory, so there isn't an issue with the venue.

Meghan went to HR. She didn't speak to her Consultant or her Midwife or the Medical Team at the Palace. Only she knows why. And only Harry knows why he didn't also ask for appropriate help.

TO YOU!

Hughs · 06/08/2024 08:10

Princess Margaret was the Queen's sister, by the way (save you a google), before you get yourself in another pickle claiming she's irrelevant due to her minor royal status.

Twistybranch · 06/08/2024 08:21

If your wife had been denied treatment and treated so terribly, why would you want a half in half out option of working for the ‘ institution ’

Not only that, but publicly propose this option mere months after this medical episode supposedly happened.

So why are you stating with such vehement ceritude that she was not well known, when you acknowledge your lack of interest or knowledge? Why not just an 'oops, I didn't know what' when multiple posters asserted how high-profile she was.

None of it makes sense. And to raise it again when talking about parents losing children to suicide?

Or she wanted a 3-month all-expenses- paid (by Dad) sojourn at Cotswolds Soho ( or similar swanky country spa hole) away from her ever-so-tiny cottage with just boring old Harry and nasty neighbours, which got spun into inpatient health care after the flounce.

The optics of that would have looked bad, so that part of the story would fit.

FloofPaws · 06/08/2024 08:32

@MrsFinkelstein - I'm the same age as you and I also really remember her through my childhood - in fact I even remember asking my mum why she had a boys name lol - she explained the reasons lol

OlympicWomen · 06/08/2024 08:36

The Duchess of Kent doesn't have a boy's name! Are you thinking of her SIL, Princess Michael of Kent?

FloofPaws · 06/08/2024 08:44

@Rhaidimiddim - my suspicions are that the 'denied treatment' if that was the case, would be HER idea of what treatment she wanted, Rather than what a medical professional prescribed - call me cynical but everything those two say is self serving highly embellished fairytales with a twist of 'their truth' - kind of the definition of pathological liars, typical of narcissists

spanieleyes · 06/08/2024 08:53

The Duchess of Kent's wedding was your original " royal celebrity" wedding, with Noel Coward and Douglas Fairbanks Jr in attendance with Princess Anne as bridesmaid! She was the epitome of elegance and style- her wedding dress was gorgeous- and a Yorkshire lass too!

elessar · 06/08/2024 09:18

@Rhaidimiddim I think you're probably right.

I don't believe for a second she would have been denied care that she needed, but like you say, I think she's taken one part of the situation out of context and used that to portray the story she wanted to tell.

Proves my point .... I am not a RF fan as such, research them, keep tabs on them, whatever pretend insults you make up. I know who these people are as I heard about them while growing up! There was no social media then. It was the news.

Twistybranch · 06/08/2024 09:28

Notice the word institution

She used the word ‘institution’ to dehumanise the staff that work at the Palace. It also means she doesn’t have to identify anyone….so we cant verify the story. It’s is also using language to make the the Palace feel austere and cold ….and to make out they were in effect institutionalised (taking away her keys, passport etc). Setting in place the story that she had to run and escape …

You say you are older . So am I ( late 60s). Unless you have been living without a TV / radio/ newspapers all your life , it is crazy to say no one had ever heard of the Duchess of Kent . Although retired now , she was once very much a principal Royal.
You are being ridiculous.
