Haven't rtft but I find Kate and the coverage of her to be mind-numbingly dull - cancer aside - really can't understand why she is put on a pedestal. Have never heard her express an opinion or offer any intelligent commentary. I secretly judge Kate fans.

TheWoodlanders · 31/07/2024 07:15

@Theunamedcat I am not a Meghan supporter but can you give examples of her smiling inappropriately? I think she’s quite good at putting on an act and haven’t noticed her smiling at the wrong time and place.

Also, a lot of the things she has said (or said through Harry or Scobie) have been contradicted by reality but I can’t think of when she has contradicted herself. Can you give examples?

CarmelaBrunella · 31/07/2024 07:20

@TheWoodlanders when interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, Meghan claimed that Archie would not have a title because there were "concerns" about his ethnicity. Now Archie is a Prince, his sister Lilibet is a Princess.
No correction from Meghan that she was wrong to imply that titles were contingent on skin colour, as opposed to Letters Patent.

Jeezitneverends · 31/07/2024 07:21

Diana would have been an absolute nightmare as a mother in law, she couldn't have coped with the competition

I agree, but I think that’s the reason Kate is so popular. There’s absolutely nothing to find annoying about her because she shows no personality. Her job is to smile, wave, look nice and have children.

Don’t gain weight or be exuberant (Fergie), have had a successful career and a voice (Meghan), show signs of mental illness (Diana) - as you’ll be persecuted.

My unpopular opinion

Harry knows exactly what he is doing constantly bringing his mom into the conversation he uses it as a sympathy tool and a shield against anyone who is criticising him

Meghan can't stop inappropriately smiling and forgets what's been said by her and Harry in the past contradicting herself but instead of maybe apologies and correcting her story she continues with her new storyline like reality is a show 🤔

I think both Harry and William hide behind Diana - see cards to ‘Granny Diana’ emblazoned all over the press. Not only that, the public display of the same (Mother’s Day 2021) shows William is more than happy to roll out the children for good publicity when it suits him.

I don’t think it was Kate. She tends to go for more subtle references - a similar dress when doing pictures of her babies on the hospital steps for example.

TheWoodlanders · 31/07/2024 08:05

@CarmelaBrunella your example is where what Meghan said is contradicted by reality. There are lots of examples of this.

Can you give an example where she contradicts herself ?

CarmelaBrunella · 31/07/2024 08:07

William and Kate haven't really done that, and it's certainly not a modus vivendi for them like it is for Harry. One card from 2021 isn't at the marketing level Harry goes for!

Oh I see.
Well, as you note - she's certainly been contradicted by reality.

Kate is popular because she is respectful and polite - she shows an interest in other people, and listens to what they have to say, rather than pushing her own opinions on those around her. It isn’t her job to show off or work the crowd. I’m sure she expresses plenty of lively views in private.

She’s a royal, not a celebrity.

CarmelaBrunella · 31/07/2024 08:10

she's a royal, not a celebrity
Good point, and she understands the difference.

CurlewKate · 31/07/2024 08:11

Going back to the unpopular opinions-I wish Kate was a better role model for girls and young women.

In my view, that’s because William is happy to shove the kids front and centre while Harry isn’t. William needs Diana less because he has other shields to exploit.

Also, William has decided at some point to toe the party line - i.e. there is nothing wrong with the way the RF treated Diana, she was just paranoid - which makes it harder to use the way she was treated to hide behind.

Yes! She took years to come to the groundbreaking conclusion that "early years are important". Colour me shocked.

I don't think she's any great intellectual.

Cams and Charles are faintly embarassing. The Coronation was cringey, him in his vest. Her Maj should never have been wheeled out for Platty Jubes, again embarassing.

I used to secretly enjoy smirking at various hideous clothing choices. You know who I mean.

CarmelaBrunella · 31/07/2024 08:18

William isn't "happy to shove the kids front and centre".
They're in direct line and W&K are getting them used to public occasions.
H&M have released film and photographs of their children when suits - their choice. However, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will not (as far as I know) have a public role.

Charles was in his vest at the coronation? Have you got a picture, I missed that?!

Some kind of weird singlet thing. I dunno? I hardly watched it.

Sure. The fact there are pictures of the kids not at official events (taken getting off a budget airline trip to Scotland when H&M are in the press for using a private jet for example) is a total coincidence and didn’t require William to give permission for the pictures to be used (since there is a very sensible press embargo that I totally agree with on pictures of the kids other than at public events).

I’m afraid I’m not that gullible.

Not that gullible? Nor am I. Publicity is used and children feature.
It's not really possible to compare both couples with this, as one is part of the royal family, one part of a celebrity culture.

CandidHedgehog · 31/07/2024 08:31

And somehow it’s the celebrities not the royals who don’t exploit their children.

You “hardly watched it”, but you thought it was cringe and noticed Charles in a “vest thing”. Why did you watch it at all 🤷‍♀️

So why give their children unnecessary titles? That seems a bit like exploitation 🤔

What "weird singlet thing"? Are you sure you were watching the coronation? The least he was in was a white shirt.

CarmelaBrunella · 31/07/2024 08:35

Many celebrities exploit their children.

Yes they do. But we are talking about William and Harry who you say fall either side of the Royal / Celebrity divide (I don’t think it’s that clear cut myself).

William regularly rolls out his children for good publicity / to change the narrative when he is getting bad publicity. Harry does not.
