Might as well find out whether the Royal Family is liked or not too.

@JaneJeffer you are right in that Irish history didn't feature in my History degree . I did do medieval and modern history but not Irish. I don't think anyone is looking to use it as an excuse to report anyone ? I really don't understand that.

cantgetnosussifaction · 23/07/2024 18:13

By the way @JaneJeffer I'm not looking for an answer and I have no knowledge of any previous posts about this. Obviously we've gone off track too.

Yes I realise it is hard for anyone who has not been subjected to anti-Irish sentiment on MN to understand.

I think calling someone a wench, a yacht girl or a step-ford wife is beyond the pale. Is that still ok?

Well in fact the phrase beyond the pale is not acceptable to me but I'm going to be kind and not report it.

This is the post that started it and it was you who brought it up and the notion of reporting a poster by saying you wouldn't report them 🤷‍♀️ Why on earth would you want to report someone for using words that you believe are offensive? That's the point I was trying to make that I didn't understand in my previous post. I understand that you said you didn't want to go into this again as there have been numerous threads on it somewhere else on MN. I respect that but I think that somewhere the logic has gone wrong here. No one was looking to offend you. In fact many literally had no idea what it was all about. This thread is about the RF but somehow it got skewed very badly in the wrong direction.

a History graduate and I have never heard of the pale in relation to Ireland
Shocking

@wordler yes I am Irish. I can assure you such threads exist because I posted on them. I am sure you will understand my reluctance to discuss this subject when as you can see even a history graduate is ignorant of Irish history and people tend to get very tetchy on the subject and I really just can't be arsed with it again. I am also dubious about whether there is a genuine interest in the matter or whether it's seen as just another opportunity for reporting and deleting by certain individuals.

It's shocking that my degree didn't cover Irish history? I could guarantee that there are things in my background that you would have no idea about. Anyway I've said my piece now. I hate to see people being unfair to others hence my replies.

Oh excuse me I thought that's exactly what the report function is for.

See here we go!

Folks, can we stop now? Engaging in further derailment may lead to temporary suspensions, so let's move on please.

JaneJeffer · 23/07/2024 20:14

I'm done with this thread @LilyMumsnet

I dislike the fact there is a royal family which carries on creating an us and them societal mindset. Ridiculous enterprise that can never be modernised no matter how many times the newspapers hit us over the head with the word modern.

TicTacToes · 25/07/2024 18:36

Modern and Monarchy don’t belong in the same sentence @HardyGreyOP 😂.

I don’t think modernization is always a good thing.
