WeAreInvictus - X

A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

Should add that I bet that bit won't be on the Netflix doc...unless they cut the actual sound and substitute adoring cheers.

Yesterday I asked for a Sussex fan (someone, anyone!) to explain why they all got up and left early, but predictably no-one has an answer. That would entail admitting their idols have absolute NO manners, wouldn't it?

Some deranger royalists need to come with a health warning ~ they are worse than Sussex Squad.

Please can you give examples and elaborate on this? I don’t know what could be worse than the death threats, reporting a food bank charity to the charity commission and police, and also reports of arson from the Sussex Squad. Never mind bullying two people who are battling cancer.

Mummy, I'm predicting your perfectly valid question won't get an answer either!

They just have no answers because they're stuck trying to defend the indefensible.

But I'm not going to stop asking!

tumbleweed GIF

I’m expecting, and getting tumbleweeds from my previous post too @CoffeeCantata they just can’t back up the nonsense.

HopeMumsnet · 16/07/2024 14:08

Hi everyone,
Just flagging that we can see the goading and inflammatory posts creeping back in on the Royals threads again and we don't have endless patience for it.
We would really appreciate it if everyone could make a sincere effort to discuss the topic at hand rather than sniping at each other.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 14:10

Regardless of whether he was the right person to accept the award - because no one is arguing that Invictus is worthy -it was so lacking in manners to leave early.

I didn’t hear booing on the clip I watched but the optics were enough.

It was the height of bad manners and as a representative of an honourable organisation like Invictus (as he was at great pains to point out) - he did not represent them well.

A shame.

And if he carries on in the same vein, he will leave an indelible stain on Invictus.

MummyJ12 · 16/07/2024 14:10

Thanks @HopeMumsnet it would really help if posters could remain civil and post constructively rather than just post insults and baseless accusations. Really appreciate your reminder for some.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 14:11

And I’m sure there would have been an opportunity to leave quietly.

But they didn’t.

It just doesn’t look good.

Hear-hear!

I certainly love the way Harry and Megan are continuing to pursue and support their projects and non-profits, including Invictus and one of my favourites, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, IGNORING (as we all do) the constant background drumbeat moronic ranting of their haters on social media, all standing in a circle chanting to each other all day long how M&H are worthless sub-humans in comparison to xyz Perfect Member of the God-Appointed British Royal Family (or even as long as they criticise H&M, the Taliban)

Reminds me of the monks scene in Monty Python’s The Holy Grail… 😂😂😂

Brilliant! 🤩

Coffee, don’t know if I’m qualified to hazard a possible answer (as I only used to be keen on Meghan but no longer am).

I think it may be that Meghan got bored, like she reportedly did at the garden party at Buckingham Palace soon after her wedding.

If you view the footage from the ESPY event, it really is Meghan leading the leaving process… and part of the reason for it taking so long for them all to exit stage right is because Harry was still sitting chatting when Meghan started to leave. Taken unawares, there was a certain amount of trailing behind (plus a few last-minute catch ups and fond hello-goodbyes).

BemusedAmerican · 16/07/2024 14:47

Ok. An Elizabeth Arden cream ad, sponsored by Mumsnet, just popped up on this page. 😂😂😂

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 14:47

Boredom I get.

But surely, with all the fuss around the award, she would just know that it would have looked so incredibly rude?

Someone as aware of the cameras as Meghan and Harry undoubtedly are, would have surely realised that.

Unless of course they want all eyes on them regardless?

Harry trailing after Meghan is becoming a frequent sight.

CoffeeCantata · 16/07/2024 14:48

Shockthemonkey

I'm sure you're right!

The common factor seems to be: if Meghan isn't the centre of attention, if circumstances demand that she concede this to others - even her husband - she finds if intolerable. I've noticed this repeatedly. When the spotlight isn't on her, she just doesn't know what to do with herself. It's pathological!

Sitting as an audience member for anything seems to challenge her. I picked up the same vibes from the ESPY event as from the Jamaican film premiere when she also found she had to just sit in a seat and watch, without access to a mic and a speech opportunity.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 14:51

I didn’t get Elizabeth Arden.

Just Marks and Spencer.

I’ll happily rub myself with a yumnut. Just higher up. Just above my chin(s).

edited for truth.

AliceOlive · 16/07/2024 15:15

There’s a school of thought that says arrive late, leave early. Makes you appear important and in demand. Leave everyone wanting more. Perhaps that’s the idea here?

AliceOlive · 16/07/2024 15:16

post script; don’t try this at work. 🤣

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 15:21

Nevermetaghostididntlike · 16/07/2024 10:35

Well done Harry you did Invictus proud.

😂😂😂
The Royal Family gave Invictus to Harry. He's turned it from a fantastic patronage to the Harry and Meghan show. It's about their egos and Meghan's clothes.
They should make it about the veterans.

If you have to contrive an edifice of importance through rudeness, then not only are you probably not really Important, but you are a classless twat to boot.

We are all brainwashed. Only those sprinkled with Montecito magic pixie dust are immune.

That pixie dust must be something.

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 15:57

@TallerSally there's been so much going on with Scotty's - really good to see.

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 16:02

It would be nice if Harry and Meghan did something genuinely productive and supportive of others, but it's their choice.
Wealth and celebrity are heady drugs.

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 16:20

@ConstantGarden1 really encouraged by impressions the ESPYs have had (looking a twitter metrics and the viewing numbers). Really positive for Invictus too - the lead in tape really seems to have shifted some people's thoughts about it. Which can only be a positive for the games.

Runnerinthenight · 16/07/2024 16:24

Nevermetaghostididntlike · 16/07/2024 10:31

What a nasty comment and also a double standard when it comes to mental health. You choose not to believe her to justify pulling her apart and believe all the gossip pushed by certain Brits. How sad is that.

Rubbish.

Runnerinthenight · 16/07/2024 16:25

Nevermetaghostididntlike · 16/07/2024 10:34

Again, another royalist who defends the indefensible royal family with a line from a press release. Press releases are not necessarily facts.

And more rubbish!
