A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

You're actually hilarious. Talk about gullible!!

It didn’t warrant more when you lead with that old tripe…

The tripe is all yours dear. Wake up and smell the coffee!

😂 True!

I watched one clown on YouTube spend so much time trying to find the one boo when they were mingling and saying goodbye to people. It was not clear what that individual was booing but it followed someone saying pass her the microphone (which could have been about anyone as no name was mentioned but a woman was singing too quietly). The clown spent ages also rewinding part of the clip (whilst pulling apart Meghan) of Meghan bending down to say bye and give a hug to someone whilst calling her creepy. Usual antics from the royal derangers on youtube. Hysterical. So desperate. It is clear the deranger royalists resent their success abroad as H and M have not crashed and burned. Some deranger royalists need to come with a health warning ~ they are worse than Sussex Squad. At the end of the day a voluntary standing ovation for Harry and loud cheers. Music to my ears. Better than a ‘posh’ clap from Wimbledon any day of the week. He actually did something to deserve it. Invictus forever.

"Success"??? Don't make me laugh!!

Runnerinthenight · 16/07/2024 16:38

What I just fail to understand is this 'hero worship' of Meghan and Harry when they have done nothing whatsoever to warrant it - in fact the reverse is the case. I don't see anyone describe the RF in similar terms at all? I just don't get it?

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 16:53

So I had a little more time today - I was wondering why Elizabeth Marks' introduction to Harry seemed so heartfelt. So I looked it up -bless her she's definitely an Invictus (and Paralympics) alum - she was unwell at one of the games and gave her gold medal to Harry to present to Papworth for saving her life and Harry presented her with the Soldier of the Year award earlier this year and she's a Pat Tillman past award recipient as well for her Invictus/Paralympics acheivements. I wish, though, that Israel Del Toro had spoken more - he also a past award recipient for his Invictus achievements.

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 16:58

I wonder why didn't Elizabeth Marks get the Invictus award? It sounds as if she would have been a worthy winner. Rather than Prince Harry!

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 17:00

She actually got an award before. That's what previous recipient means.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 17:00

I think Israel Del Toro and Elizabeth Marks are everything about the spirit of Invictus that is magnificent. Awe inspiring. Inspirational. Courageous. An example of those who meet adversity head on and who show the world how to move on. They are just honourable. There aren’t enough words to express my admiration.

In my opinion, thus far, nothing I’ve seen would convince me that any of those descriptions can be used to describe Harry.

It's really very strange.
Do you think some people are just ultra royalists, and put titled people on a pedestal, no questions? I can't explain it otherwise.
Neither Harry nor Meghan have any kind of talent, ability, creativity, work ethic or integrity.
The worship of them is baffling.

I was thinking the same. There's no comparison to Harry whatsoever! The only thing is that he's a prince and that seems to dazzle people.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/07/2024 17:04

If you leave early (which is bloody rude) you do so very quickly and discreetly

Only if you have manners and are capable of thinking of others, @CoffeeCantata

I thought their behaviour was deeply embarrassing, entitled and rude to both the person on stage at the time, the audience behind them and the event organisers. It was as if to say 'Well, we've got what we wanted out of this, so to hell with everyone else!'

Thoroughly agree with this, and especially the last sentence.
Someone once said "you can judge a person from the way they behave to someone who can be of no possible use to them", and for me it strikes a chord here - or as you suggested "you've served your purpose so now we're out"

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 17:05

Interesting - Marcus Rashford won the award too!

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 17:08

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 17:05

Now, he is a worthy winner! Humble background, great work ethic, working hard for children in poverty. Quite a contrast to a privileged white prince!

I'm curious - if they can award it to someone like Marcus Rashford, why lower their standards so much and award it to Harry 🙄??

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 17:11

@ConstantGarden1 there is a currently dormant Invictus thread - will probably be posting there if interested when Whistler starts. See you there if you're interested.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 16/07/2024 17:14

I said very, very early on in this thread that leaving early was rude.

I was assured that my thinking it was rude said more about me than it did about H&M.

No.

Still rude. Beyond rude. And yes, a lack of class, a lack of consideration and a lack of appreciation towards others and showed a level of arrogance that is quite rare to see.

Although increasingly not so rare from this pair.

Simple answer: because they are all scratching each other’s backs financially through their so called charitable foundations, and ESPN wanted a ratings boost from bringing the shit show to town.

That's the only reason, it can't be for work or effort 😂!

It is! He is a living legend too. 💪

Since the ESPY farce, I've been thinking a lot about H & M. I'm not a fan, and that's understating things.

When Meghan sends out pots of jam and lemons, I think it's lame but harmless. When she seal-claps and pushes herself front and centre at a charity polo match, it's pathetic but ultimately harmless.

But what she and Harry are doing to Invictus really upsets me. Their behaviour shows disprespect for the disabled veterans to whom it means so much - and has been a lifeline. Oh God - where to start! But I really feel depressed by what's happening.

The over-involvement of Meghan when it's Harry's show, if anyone's (I realise it was given to him, not founded by him).

Her marching in front of the veterans, grinning.

The ugly controversy over the Pat Tillman award, the trolling of Pat's mother, the tactic of veterans accompanying H on to the stage to shield him from booing, the utter disrespect and rudeness of their leaving early as they did.
And the MN 'positive' thread during the IG event in Canada earlier this year which made the whole thing about Meghan's clothes and jewellery. Ugh - utterly crass.

I've seen Sussex supporters on this thread trying to whitewash what happened at the recent award ceremony, and I think they're heartless to ignore the growing controversy over what H & M are doing to Invictus. The people who matter are not happy, and that should not be ignored. Trying to portray it as people 'being mean about H & M' is a pathetic attempt to trivialise an important issue.

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 17:19

not sure why. I knew Marcus Rashford received this award when he received it. I also looked up the veterans straight after the event on Thursday. I try not to post about something I haven’t done some basis research on.

ConstantGarden1 · 16/07/2024 17:21

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 16:20

@ConstantGarden1 really encouraged by impressions the ESPYs have had (looking a twitter metrics and the viewing numbers). Really positive for Invictus too - the lead in tape really seems to have shifted some people's thoughts about it. Which can only be a positive for the games.

Me too. 😊 The metrics were the first thing I investigated after going on X. This was because after a long absence (due to the fighting between derangers and some people who use the squad hashtag) I saw that my feed was blowing up with positivity. It was a joy to see Harry recognised for Invictus. The only real soldier in the Royal Family who despite all his wealth continues to highlight his many causes. He is also now a global ambassador for Scottys since November last year. He has kept solid with the military communities and veterans all over the world. He truly is a global citizen, in demand and raising the profile of Invictus. Bless him. He had a rough time of it but is shining through it all. A lovely guy and has a beautiful family. I also admire how they do not bring out the kids every 5 minutes to boost themselves. That said I look forward to seeing them one day joining their parents at many events. That will be special.
