A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

Absolutely this! Unfortunately for IG and the sports people there's a very nasty stench surrounding IG, PH needs to go, as you say he just takes, and MM should have no place at the table, yet she gorges herself off the back of IG

It's nowhere near those Games.

It's still smaller than The Island Games. And without Harry, would have roughly the same profile as them..

Founder syndrome. Someone who was right for the organisation at one point in time/its development stops being right and ends up actively damaging it. But is so dependent on it they can't or won't see it.

Founder Syndrome also characterised by the belief that the charity belongs to the founder in perpetuity and can be directed by them alone.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 17/08/2024 13:11

What a pity that there seems to be such a grip on publicity regarding the Colombia trip.

You'd have thought they would be really highlighting the values of Invictus.

But no. Just highlighting themselves once more.

I wish they’d step down before they irreparably damage all that is worthy about the IG.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 17/08/2024 13:17

And as mentioned elsewhere, why has she knelt down here? There was no need.

Other than trying to make herself look so very very understanding and compassionate right out of the saviour handbook.

Grab a chair and sit alongside him and look him in the bastard eye.

Anyone know what sort of profile Invictus has internationally? We hear a lot because of Harry but what about elsewhere?

ThePoshUns · 18/08/2024 09:29

Would it have hurt for either of them but especially Harry to wear an Invictus polo shirt?

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 18/08/2024 11:07

Just confirmation to me that, despite protestations to the contrary, it is always more about H&M than it is about Invictus.

A polo shirt would have been far more appropriate.

A fashion show and unnecessary displays of ‘look at me’ were not.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 18/08/2024 11:11

Unnecessary crouching.

Unnecessary touching.

Sadly, for me, they seem to want to highlight the disability rather than the person.

She’s cos playing Diana. Trying to emulate the angelic royal: shock and awe, for the very first time one of them touching the hoi polloi and, gasp, connecting with people with differences! The world has moved on in 30 years, love. Sit on a chair and talk to him like he’s a fellow human being, not your photo prop.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 18/08/2024 12:00

See here’s the thing for me.

She didn’t know Di. So I’m assuming the Dimanual came from the internet.

The same internet that was unable to tell her who Harry was. Or the butler dad of her new besties. Despite being a fan of the Royals, she was unable to foresee the negativity that often befalls the women who marry in.

The same internet that helpfully suggests that empathy and understanding come from the heart and not from pictures.

And yet here we are.

Watching what may be as real as an episode of Suits.

Could it be because it’s a great angle for a photo? Her face turned upwards like that…

LaMarschallin · 19/08/2024 09:06

I think whatever the reason for crouching down and peering up at the man in the wheelchair was, we can be fairly certain it wasn't for his benefit. It may have been to make Meghan look sweet and caring, it may have been better for pics, or she may just not be good at putting herself in the other person's place.

A friend who had to use a wheelchair for a while said they got fed up of always having to look up or down at people. If they'd had DunkThatBastardBiscuit's turn of phrase, I'm sure they'd have suggested people Grab a chair and sit alongside him and look him in the bastard eye.

DH is in a wheelchair and it would really annoy both of us if anyone sat on the floor like that to talk to him. Thankfully, most people are more sensitive than to do that.

Shame the athlete didn’t decide to show his skills with the ball and run her over with his chair.

Undoubtedly. She absolutely knows where the camera is and how to get the best angle - for her and her alone. Everyone and everything else is a prop. This is not what the royal family do. They are there to highlight the people and the cause, not themselves.

I think Meghan lives her life as a movie narrated by herself about how wonderful she is. She’s the main character, alright. When she’s fed up/completed her angel pose/wants to move on to the next scene, her inner director yells cut, and she either walks away and/or drags Harry away to find the next camera and perform the next scene.

What a way to live your life. Utterly toxic

Baital · 19/08/2024 20:34

Sad, really. Yes, toxic as well. But very sad because life will never measure up.

The same for Harry. He has so much but all he can see is what he doesn't have.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/08/2024 20:41

I would be interested to know how much of this trip to Colombia (that hardly seemed to feature Harry) will be billed to Invictus.

Edit, missed words

StormzyinaTCup · 19/08/2024 20:59

I think we can be fairly certain of one thing, they won’t be fronting up for it.

I reckon, as well as being an entitled man child, Harry is as tight as a camel’s arse in a sandstorm. 🐪 🐪

True, but then who does pay for it? The money comes into their coffers from games to games from the host city and any sponsors they can get for that particular games. What about funding for this sort of in between games visit to a non host country? I sincerely hope it is not coming out of any funds that could otherwise be doing some good for veterans in Colombia, but also not out of the funds intended for the Canadian games.

I suspect it will be Invictus but we will likely never know - they use the charity for their own ends and hide behind a lack of transparency.
