Tbh I don't think even if 60 million people turned out on Christmas Day at Sandringham to cheer the rf into church it would be a representative sample in some quarters Grin

😂

PrincessMee · 14/07/2024 19:36

I saw a very very sad pic today of Shannon Doherty who died today of cancer aged 53. I believe this is what some of these posters want to see with The POW.

PrincessMee · 14/07/2024 19:36

Shannen sorry

Salemforcuddles · 14/07/2024 19:36

Oh I didn't know is she had died, how sad

Yes, absolutely this.

And tto an earlier poster, you can't resell Wimbledon ballot tickets for anything other than face value. The ticketing is incredibly democratic - I go every year, but it's often via The Queue or the LTA and (very occasionally) the ballot.

I'm not criticising the ticket allocation. But the costs and logistics of getting to Wimbledon put it out of reach for many. If I were to go it would cost me about £200 in train fares to London plus whatever the cost of hotel accommodation in a reasonably nearby area would be; I doubt I would get change from £500.

Which is great, but to save up for something you have to have spare money to put aside, which many don't in the present climate.

And so it has been since the beginning of time.

But let’s not forget priorities either. Having the ability to save up for something probably meant making sacrifices, making choices, going without other things in order to have money to set aside.

That's too bad.

Do you feel the same about the number of football fans who have travelled to Germany ?

PrincessMee · 14/07/2024 19:42

@Sethera your comment

"The sample size is too small. Even if the audience was carefully chosen to represent all counties of the UK and all demographics (which it wasn't), it would not stand up statistically."

It's really immaterial. If as you suggest it is more international than British then this displays even more the popularity of the Princess of Wales globally.

My only gripe is that I think it's a shame she chose the men's final. Makes the Women's game literally appear lesser. Imagine if she chose the attend the Women's every year - it would be such a boost!

Abouttimeforanamechange · 14/07/2024 19:43

I wonder why she couldn't even get one of her staff to tweet a message of congratulations to Alfie Hewitt, if she's such a passionate and important proponent of the tennis game.

Perhaps she sent him a personal message. Perhaps she actually spoke to him. Some people do still have conversations. Not everyone feels the need to broadcast everything on social media.

I expect if they had known that A.N. Other was suffering a serious illness and they made an “entrance” they would have the same respect.

ISTR that when Mrs Margaret Tebbit attended Wimbledon, after having been left seriously disabled by a terrorist bomb, she received a standing ovation.

A relative has had a year off work due to cancer and subsequent treatment. While physically she is doing great mentally she is still a mess. Cancer treatment is brutal whether you're a princess or a pauper..

Absolutely.
I hope your relative is ok and is getting some support.
Thankfully, we have laws in this country to protect people who are too ill to work so no one has to work constantly through treatment for cancer if they are employed.

You sound like rather like one of those 'everyone could send their children to private school if they made some sacrifices' posters. Too many people live in a sort of 'bubble' of privilege and don't seem able to grasp that others might not have the same experiences of life.

She attended last year and presented the trophy .

Fucking hell, the sooner MN creates a Republican board for all the miserable, “my life is worthless under a monarchy”, “idiot tabloid hacks define my existence” posters on this board, the better.

Salemforcuddles · 14/07/2024 19:47

Don't forget the ones that are single handedly going to save the country from rotting

The thing about that is why should her sex limit her to the women's tennis? Djokovic said today :

“Yes, it was of course a privilege to be in her presence again,” Djokovic said in his press conference when asked what he had said to Kate. “I've said to her that it is very nice to see her in good health. She seems to be in good health.
“That's obviously very positive news for everyone in this country but also for Wimbledon, for Championships to have Her Royal Highness here, of course with her family members. It's amazing. It's incredible support they've been giving over the years to this tournament."

I think flying to another country to see a football match that's on TV everywhere is absolutely shocking from an environmental point of view. There should be very strict limits on the number/mileage of non-essential flights each person can take in their lifetime.

She usually does attend the women’s final to present the trophy. This year has been an exception as in case you haven’t heard, she is undergoing chemotherapy

Especially the ones that are not even British! There's plenty of countries that embrace the life they desire.

Do you have an original thought in your head?

FridayFeelingmidweek · 14/07/2024 19:48

Oops, I stand corrected on that for last year. I think my point being that this year, with the men's football also being supported by royalty, it might have been a wonderful thing for her to attend the Women's final, rather than the men's. It would have given it weight and made the Women's final significant. Feels like the men's was the ultimate which is a shame.

However, like everyone, very glad she's doing well.

Barbadossunset · 14/07/2024 19:49

If this were to work, every country would have to cooperate and good luck getting that to happen.
Also, how do you define a ‘non-essential flight’?

Salemforcuddles · 14/07/2024 19:49

@Sethera oh jeez, you are making me laugh
