Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Btw the way comments on 'X' are fed to you based on your interests and follows which the algo calculates so if you are pro-Harry then you are likely to see leading pro-Harry qoutes at the top of your feed and vice-versa.

The only person I follow on Twitter is JKR, and I very rarely use Twitter - this is a rare example.

I'm scrolling and scrolling down the comments looking for pro-H... and it's turtles all the way down.

I agree with you. I do strongly think those around Harry need to sit him down and have a good talk (sans Meghan) about what he wants. Encourage him to visit his father, see his friends in the UK, just ground himself a bit.

Harry isn't cut out for the California/Hollywood life, he needs guidance and a purpose. Drifting isn't good.

Who are those around Harry though? His wife is the only person around him and she certainly doesn’t have his best interests at heart.

Vespanest · 12/07/2024 22:55

i counted 8/9 people in Harry and Meghan entourage as they were leaving, they couldn’t leave discreetly. This doesn’t even include Jill smoller from WME who sat behind Meghan. Surely they don’t need that many staff. It made their leaving look even more awkward.

ESPN's social media director has opined - maybe he can help out KP with theirs !

Oh dear.

I wish I could do screen shots and all, but Technology Hates Me and won't co-operate.

Makemydaypunk · 12/07/2024 23:00

It will be interesting to see which award they purchase next.

Especially with his 40th birthday (and associated final-tranche inheritance) coming up, and her needing investment capital for the AOR launch.

Makemydaypunk · 12/07/2024 23:02

Sports personality of the year?

I’ve always thought it will be interesting to see what happens when he does get that inheritance. How the dynamics may change .

So did they leave before the event con cluded? 8/9 people!? They must be haemorraging money⁹.

BAFTA for the best continuing drama would be rather apt.

How much is it? a figure of 40 million sticks in my mind for some reason.

Aren't they now a dodgy foundation that trousers most of the donations as some seem to suggest and an online 'anyone can sign' petition of 75k is a gnat's bite in internet terms.

What do you think about a charitable enterprise that spends 75% of its annual income on running costs @TheFirmBiscuit ?

Can't copy @Mylovelygreendress informative post on this topic up thread, but it's there. Not just being criticised by people on this thread.

His initial post is about Steve Gleason and responses to his contribution to the event. He then goes make the post you cite, which, in context, is less an an endorsement to H than you think. More a " don't let the bad Harry vibe colour your perception of what the event was about" than an endorsement of Harry's award.

it doesn’t say but definitely before anyone else was leaving

Uricon2 · 12/07/2024 23:17

And while we're here @TheFirmBiscuit why do you think a man 2 months off 40 is "just a lost naughty boy"? Is Harry going to be an eternal teenager to you or is it reasonable to expect him to behave like the extremely privileged nearly middle aged man he actually is?

I think it was (estimated to be) £40m in total, but paid out in tranches, so this final payment would be ( I imagine) about what Tom Cruise would get for his next film

Diana left approx £12million . Obviously it was invested so increased . If I remember correctly , William and Harry received x amount when they were 25 with the remainder paid at age 40 . It will be several million which is eye watering to most people but H and M have an incredibly expensive lifestyle.

So by Harry’s standards it will keep the wolf from the door for a while but it doesn’t put him into the super rich league, could pay off his mortgage with a few mill change in his back pocket?

The comments on his post make for really entertaining reading, if anyone is killing time before bed. He's got an intelligent bunch of followers.

My fabe so far:

Musing on Diana a bit tonight after the speech. She had a LOT of issues, we know that, but by the end of her life I think she was working positively towards finding her niche on an international stage and she did it without a campaign against the entire RF, although I'm sure she would have had many axes to grind into perpetuity had she chosen to do so, rather sharper than Harrys. I've said before that I truly believe she would have been horrified by the rift between her sons and additionally by the attempt to undermine the one who is going to be King.

Harry would better off focusing on Diana the strong woman who made (lots of) mistakes but found a way of getting on with things, rather than Diana the Eternal Sainted Victim, because she wasn't, she was bigger than that.

ETA so many edits, rubbish typing

Excellent points, @Uricon2. Despite her privileged background, Diana had a difficult time with her parents’ acrimonious divorce, marrying very young to someone who didn’t love her, suffering from an eating disorder, etc. Yet she made her way through and earned people’s respect by highlighting serious issues such as challenging the stigma against HIV sufferers and the devastation caused by landmines.

Harry needs to do the same, find a meaningful role for himself and stop bleating on about his personal difficulties.

I predict the next award will be the James Beard Award for ARO jam. 😝

You seem to be conflating Mary Tillman, TPTF and an award made in his name. They are 3 distinct things. Nobody is saying that the award isn’t an extremely prestigious one, because anyone honoured in Pat Tillman’s name is standing on the shoulders of a giant; what is being criticised is the dubious process behind the decision to award it to this individual, and the seemingly nefarious financial decision making of the foundation’s leaders.

If 75k is a “gnat’s bite”, then Meghan’s ARO enterprise is in trouble.
