Nobody has made unpleasant comments as far as I can see. Confused It's true that the public perception of Anne is a lot better than it used to be.

Topseyt123 · 24/06/2024 13:03

Oh dear! The royals really aren't having a good year health-wise are they!?

I hope she's out shortly and back to firing on all cylinders again. I like her and her no-nonsense approach to so many things.

A slimmed down monarchy is great, but it can mean that for the time being they are just a little short on working royals.

Precautionary and observation I'd guess.

And TBH many people WILL mutter something about whether or not she had to sit for 18 hours on a chair in A+E, I don't think there's anything wrong with that when the vast majority of the population have to endure that when presenting with an injury.

However, I'm sure she was triaged like everyone else. Which makes me think that the speed of her admission means a slightly worse injury than concussion.

Much as it would seem she had not sustained a major injury, if you have lost consciousness they will speed you through A&E pdq in case you have suffered anything major. My two eldest DS managed to crash in to each other on their bikes. One was briefly unconscious, the other had a broken collarbone and ribs. They were both taken to A&E in an ambulance but the one who lost consciousness wizzed through a lot quicker than the other one

Doesn’t sound like she’s suffered major trauma though

I assume that they also deal with lesser injuries!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 24/06/2024 13:28

The problem the palace have got is after the debacle with Katherine and the “minor abdominal surgery”, no one is going to believe “minor” anything health wise with the Royals unless they spell out exactly what’s wrong or put them on camera quickly. I’ve already read people suggesting it’s worse than reported, but she’s an older lady who’s still riding her horses and accidents that are minor will have to be checked out thoroughly.

Hoolahoophop · 24/06/2024 13:30

I wonder why the Princess Royal has a better rep now. From what I can see she hasn't changed a bit.

Is it because as a young woman she was expected to be all smiles, simpering and agreeable. As an older woman it is more acceptable to be who you want to be.

Or have tastes changed, and now there is more respect for her strait talking no-nonsense appeal.

If is it just that it is now noticeable how hard she works so she gets respect for it that she didn't get before. I don't know how hard she worked when she had a young family.

Interesting, I hope her injuries are minor and she is back out on a horse before long.

CassandraWebb · 24/06/2024 13:31

I think it's well-known that they wouldnt even report very minor injuries, and always understate the nature of them, so it's likely this was reasonably serious.
I wish her well, several family members have met her for different reasons and they all said how easy to talk to she was

Willmafrockfit · 24/06/2024 13:32

it is a very nice new hospital, looks like an airport

I don’t think they ever said the Princess of Wales’ abdominal surgery was “minor”. They always made it clear that she would need a long convalescence. The thing with Princess Anne is she has had a head injury any they are never going to take a chance with that So yes it probably isn’t particularly major but that doesn’t mean that precautions will not be taken

How long before someone comes along saying “ bet she didn’t have to wait for hours in A and E”

I bet she didn’t have to wait hours and hours at A&E.

there. Fixed that.

I think she was always more popular than the media would have you believe. I vividly remember a street party for the wedding of Charles and Di, much muttering amongst the mothers who'd gone indoors to watch bits of the wedding about how Di's dress was a mess not like Anne's, Di's curtsey to the Queen was vastly inferior to Anne's.

Also lots of admiration about how she dealt with her attempted kidnapping. My husband was a police officer and definitely lots of admiration about her bravery from the police who knew a thing or two about royal protection.

Hoppinggreen · 24/06/2024 13:37

I feel that "death by horse" is probably the way Princess Anne would prefer to go
I hope she makes a good recovery soon

DedicatedCakeEater · 24/06/2024 13:37

Oh no, not another one!

Some of it.

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2024 13:38

Of course she didn't have to wait on a cold hard chair in A and E for 15 hours .. !
Goes without saying. Some injuries are more important than others

Yiayoula · 24/06/2024 13:40

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/06/2024 12:45

She will be getting the best of care. Southmead Hospital is a brilliant hospital (and local to me).

Hear, hear ! They are amazing .

(Waves to @MrsMoastyToasty and any fellow Bristolians )

Yes happened to me, I was fully awake as they wheeled me in and I felt mortified as I thought I was fine. I had a rude awakening when the vomiting started and wouldn't stop.

Well it is true isn't it?

BemusedAmerican · 24/06/2024 13:44

Even here in the US, head injuries are taken in before broken arms ( with no head injuries).

tinytemper66 · 24/06/2024 13:43

Yes. Because she had a head injury

GertrudeCB · 24/06/2024 13:45

I wish her a speedy recovery. She works hard for her charities.

Well yes because no matter where your are in the world, head injuries are potentially life threatening whereas broken arms
in themselves generally are not 😆

DedicatedCakeEater · 24/06/2024 13:46

If they don't know if it was the horse's hind legs or head that got her, it does sound as though she can't remember the incident. I'd expect a head to make less of a dent than a shod hoof, so let's hope it's the former.

AgeingDoc · 24/06/2024 13:47

With trauma, patients will often be taken direct to a major trauma centre because the mechanism of injury means that a serious injury is a realistic possibility but it doesn't necessarily mean that they actually have such an injury.
I have seen many, many people brought in completely imobilised on spinal boards (quite appropriately given what has happened to them) who turn out to actually only have minor injuries once they are fully assessed. It's much better to end up in a MTC when you don't need to be there than it is to be admitted to a hospital without the capacity to treat your injuries and then need to be moved, so it's now quite normal for the ambulance service to bypass smaller hospitals and take patients who could have major injuries to an MTC (or at least a Trauma Unit) rather than lose potentially vital time taking them to a hospital that cannot provide definitive treatment. And of course if your nearest Emergency Dept just happens to be an MTC you would still go there with other stuff - they don't only treat major trauma. You really can't draw any conclusions one way or the other from the fact that someone has been admitted to a hospital with an MTC.

JawJaw · 24/06/2024 12:45

@smilesy down to earthy, ballsy, gutsy, no nonsense work horse blah blah etc. in my day she wasn’t popular, she was seen as curt and arrogant. Now for some reason you can’t open a newspaper or forum without finding someone falling over themselves to say how marvellous she is. I guess it’s when the RF were running out of headline acts they had to revive one from the back benches.

Anyway, as a fellow older woman I wish her a speedy recovery.

Well thank fuck attitudes towards women have changed, eh? Anne is bloody brilliant
