Yep, I added the new one above first.

So all anyone has to do is to go into settings and stick a load of new names into their list for future use. Then the next time a thread starts they want to do mischief on, they can posts under several, unrecognisable names with no posting history to them and get away with sock puppeting. This is unbelievable! I totally understand name changing for safety/ID protection or because you get tired of an old name (I do it myself), but this is something else - something MN needs to put an end to and, more to the point, I for one thought they already had! Now I am wondering what other bad faith posters have been all over this board.

Oh well, that explains a lot and clears up a few mysteries.😵

I am Miss Gullible, but even I’ve spotted name changes on these threads. Just this morning someone rose from the ashes, but complete with a rather identifiable posting style. I don’t see the point of it, if you only post in one section, unless they have been kicked off and have signed up with a different email.

jeffgoldblum · 17/06/2024 11:39

I am posting from Firefox with a host of various paywall busting, ad blockers and java script and cookies disabled which I find very useful. So that may explain the anomaly. I hardly ever use a phone.

@TheFirmBiscuit
Does this mean you have trouble viewing giffs?

AliceOlive · 17/06/2024 11:43

Also, if you look at posting history of new names you can see some interesting patterns.

Fathers Day Pop GIF

Yes I see gifs.

jeffgoldblum · 17/06/2024 11:44

I'm on app can't post giffs and they don't work very well to view either!!
But I find it much easier to read and bookmark!

MummyJ12 · 17/06/2024 11:46

I haven’t got a clue about any of this. Hadn’t even heard of sock puppet before. I had seen it mentioned on threads but never thought much of it. I’m sick of the name changing though that’s for sure. I’m also fed up that @MNHQ don’t seem to care about what’s going on.
Yesterday, I got deleted for saying
“Yes, absolutely”
in agreement to the post from@Mylovelygreendress about Meghan, ARO and the dog biscuits. The media all agree by the looks of things today that Meghan did this purposefully. Why am I not allowed to agree with someone backing me up?!
How does a post that says “Yes, absolutely” break talk guidelines for goodness sake @ImaniMumsnet?
I’m cancelling my subscription. This site is getting beyond ridiculous.

AliceOlive · 17/06/2024 11:49

@MummyJ12 That’s upsetting.

jeffgoldblum · 17/06/2024 11:50

@MummyJ12 , no please don't go !
I and others enjoy your posts and would miss you! ❤️

I change names on a whim for my own amusement. For shits and giggles but mainly
For giggling at shits.
I think I am clearly recognisable. If not at first then certainly after a while. And it is the same name all the way through a thread.

Back in the day, it was relatively easy to accidentally post under a different name (from a different thread or topic) on a thread you were already on. I know because I did an accidental puppet and had my collar felt.

I believe MN then took steps to try to stop this from happening and as such, I feel it may be a more deliberate act these days. And quite possibly N.I.T.S by some.

@MummyJ12

You and I have fun on some threads. You under that name. Me maybe not so much using the same one all the time. But I think you may have an inkling.

Don't go because some are borderline holes. That is the point of it all see? That is what are aiming for.

It isn’t big. It isn’t clever. It is dubious and it is the behaviour of holes. Whether or not they are paid holes is another discussion all together.

And do challenge any unfair deletions. I have found that they do listen. And do reinstate some posts.

I think that sometimes it is easy to be a bit trigger happy with the zappy - more so if there seems to be a concerted effort by a few to get some posters muzzled. I don’t blame them for that. Some days they must feel as though it is a thankless and Herculean task.

It must be like herding bats.

Or knitting shit.

StormzyinaTCup · 17/06/2024 12:11

@MummyJ12 you are not alone. The guidelines are now so fuzzy and applied so inconsistently that even some posters who have been here a number of years are no clearer.

The site does seem to be on the slide at the moment, hopefully MNHQ will acknowledge and address what is happening under their noses and a more normal and consistent service will be resume.

Stick with it as I enjoy your posts 💐

Uricon2 · 17/06/2024 12:13

Obviously there are going to be exceptions but I don't think most of the name changers are people who support Kate and William, I recognise at least a dozen who were active on here when K was being ripped to shreds after the Mothers Day photo imbroglio and before her cancer announcement. Not so many of the names doing the ripping, though, to the point where it's very noticeable.

However, I'm quite certain they're still around. I prefer to own my views and don't feel the need to reincarnate and then continue to say the same things on the same board.

JamieFraserSporran · 17/06/2024 12:17

It seems to be there is a problem too with the limitations of the app. I notice that if you change your name for whatever reason using the app and you revisit a post then it will post as the new name so you do in reality have different posts with different names when it is unintentional and caused by the app. I understand this is not the case if you use the web version. Is this correct ? Does the app need to be upgraded to avoid issues like this? Perhaps MN can comment ?

Thank you so much guys 💗 I really appreciate you and your support. It’s a super stressful time for me at the moment. Sometimes I need to reach for the kettle/hot tap not my phone!

And ripping Catherine to shreds in the process. Those threads were utterly repugnant.

Yes I had my post deleted for what I thought was a fairly innocuous observation .
To be honest , I am struggling to follow what’s going on with these threads !
Don’t go @MummyJ12 !

Hair splitting. Casting doubt by saying she had a facelift, was dead, was hiding away because of a divorce are all attacking her personally in the guise of casting doubt on what the palace said
