What evidence do you have that it's the Royal PR machine?

Maybe she wants to look her best and support William and Charles.

She can't win, can she?
If she turned out a bit too casual, tongues would wag.
If she's beautifully dressed etc, people like you come up with imaginary ideas.

Okay, fine. Maybe it is all coming from her and this image brings her confidence and happiness.

But why was it necessary to put on such psychological armour in the first place? This goes beyond her to the bullshit we all have to do as women to feel confident and 'seen'.

Maybe she just wanted to look nice at a family event?

How do you think she should have looked? A hospital gown and attached to a drip?

I don’t think that wanting to look your best is peculiar to women. I think generally people of any sex or gender want to look their best. It’s human nature

Immediatley after the flypast and balcony its quite clear in that video.

Is 'psychological armour' the right term? @GelatoPistacchio

Do you mean 'war paint' - ie make up?

I don't think you've used the right words.

If you mean making an effort with her appearance, what's wrong with that? I wear full make up every day even in the house . I do it for ME not for anyone else.

If you feel you have to do 'bullshit' and not be your own person, that's your choice, surely.

Isn't there a bad family history of osteoporosis too? I think some people underestimate the rigours of riding in a parade like that and being expected to start doing so at her age would be ridiculous.

Lovely to see Kate and her statement yesterday was spot on.

Plus she said at a visit in Germany in 2023 that she had given up riding as she felt she was too old. Hardly unusual at 76 !

Abouttimeforanamechange · 15/06/2024 23:15

And there's a difference between going for a hack around the country when no-one's watching, and you can go home when you've had enough, and taking part in a parade in front of crowds and tv cameras, when you can't mess it up and you have to stay to the end, even when it's pissing down with rain, as it was today.

Anne did it, but it was her choice - no-one would think any worse of her if she decided not to.

The late Queen was a lot younger when she stopped riding in the Birthday Parade, even though she reportedly continued to ride at home until near the end of her life.

Catherine to attend event tomorrow
Gorgonemilezola · 15/06/2024 23:23

It's a sure sign that today's events were a success when there are numerous threads started denigrating the rf and supporting the not rf.

JamieFraserSporran · 15/06/2024 23:27

GelatoPistacchio · 15/06/2024 19:56

I'm glad she is feeling well enough to attend an important day for their family and hope she is on the mend. But I feel a bit uncomfortable with the obsession with her looking beautiful and glam, even when she is seriously ill.

I don't mean this as a criticism of her but more the royal PR machine that insists on this unrelatable sheen of perfection. She is naturally beautiful but the blowout and full make up look after giving birth, while going through cancer, it must be bloody exhausting to maintain.

Why is selling us on her impossible physical perfection so important to the royal press team? I guess it's too late now but if they had tried marketing her as a relatable, natural beauty in the first place there would be less pressure on her maintaining her 'look' now.

You're feeling uncomfortable are you because a woman in the public eye looks well groomed and glamorous? She wasn't in Tesco. You must feel uncomfortable many times in your regular life then because there are loads of gorgeous ladies going about their daily business.

She can’t go out on the palace balcony in her trackies. Honestly what are you on about?
I bet you’d get glammed up if they asked you to appear up there with them.

tkwal · 15/06/2024 23:34

I'm glad to see the PoW looking so beautiful, relaxed and happy today. I hope her appearance will put some of the more ridiculous rumours to bed but I'm sure someone will be alone soon to claim it was a clone/lookalike/hologram we saw today. I admire her ability to be calm under pressure , its hard enough having cancer without having strangers speculate about every aspect of your life. I wish her and everyone else with a serious illness well and hope they find the strength and serenity to deal with all it entails

Bababa2456 · 15/06/2024 20:38

George has those slightly odd eyes where the iris doesn't fill the whole eye from upper to lower lid, so there's always a lot of white above the lower lid.

It makes him look a bit sad most of the time.

There’s been a thread about William’s baldness which was quite mean but this is seriously overly personal and critical of a young boy.
I think he looks quite a sweet young chap.
Edited to add I often see his photos like Prince Andrew who, although not currently popular, was easily the best looking of the late Queen’s children .

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 15/06/2024 23:52

I think Prince George looks great. I’ve told you all, it’s Resting Windsor Face. He has a great smile!

Apart from the odd genuine republican on her @cathyandclaire being one, I always enjoy her perspective, most regular posters are faux republicans and they post vociferously, they loathe William and Catherine in particular but any member is fair game apart from Harry and Meghan who they absolutely adore. I am happy to debate and discuss republican opinions with actual republicans but the fake ones on here, absolutely not.

What constitutes a “genuine republican”? I’m a Republican, what test do I have to pass to be considered genuine?

It’s the old story of rent a mob. Which also means it was sensible that the BBC didn’t talk to them

What makes you think it’s rent a mob? They’re a legitimate organisation 🙄

ShrinkingEveryDay · 16/06/2024 00:08

JudgeJ · 15/06/2024 14:05

They would certainly have been removed in many of the countries they support!

What countries do they “support”?

ShrinkingEveryDay · 16/06/2024 00:10

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/06/2024 13:36

I'll repeat - it's a state occasion, so that's what the BBC broadcast. The people saying how it's important to them are the ones who have put in a lot of hard work and training to make it happen and look flawless. Those and the monarch are the ones it's about - not some tit in a yellow sweatshirt shouting 'not my king' and trying to get on the TV so mum can see him.

I'm sure if the BBC thought the nation wanted to hear from them, the BBC would be giving them their five minutes. The numbers of the crowds in the Mall suggests the BBC got it right.

Wow. What an incredibly ignorant idea of legitimate protest 😳

'Hollywood Royalty' Gwyneth Paltrow sending her best wishes to Catherine on Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account. That is the 2nd time she has publicly come out to support Catherine. Unusual for her to make comments on non-friend insta accounts.
