It all sounds more and more like Andrew and Sarah and their dubious and dodgy deals. They just don’t seem to be able to live within their means. Ditch the mansion, sack the security and stop buying designer clothes. Get rid of the staff and get proper jobs. Look after your own kids yourself and stop flying everywhere first class.

In the US, the National Enquirer have run an article along the same lines but are even more savage. (20th May).
Again, this could just be more ‘speculative bollocks’ as you so beautifully put it @EdithWeston 😆

But I thought they didn't have tabloids in the US 🤔?!

Well, there are those who make everything he does wrong. We see that in action all to often. But it would be an immense sign of weakness if potential reaction on SM was a determining factor in how to carry out the duties of a senior representational role such as President of the FA.

It was nearly 60 years since the last time England reached a World Cup Final, so the FA President (whoever at the time) is hardly eating up the airmiles when you look at it in the context of the rarity of the event; plus of course what its importance should have meant.

No outcry in Spain about their RF attending, and AFAIK she's not their FA President. Nor were there any security issues for them (or the other dignitaries in attendance). The tournament hosts know well in advance that Presidents (of the whole country of the finalists, not just their FAs), Prime Ministers, other ministers and royalty (if the country is a monarchy) are likely to travel if their team makes the later stages, and particularly the final; and robust plans will have been in place well in advance.

Was there not some protocol issue that KC had to visit first ?

StartupRepair · 24/05/2024 13:37

Yes re William dashing to Australia. ChArles is still the Head of State here and he needs to visit first as King. Until Australia gets its act together and becomes a republic, this stuff still matters. Uch more straightforward for the Queen of Spain to jump on the plane.

No, that was an utter invention by those who wanted to place the responsibility squarely where it belongs - on the President of the FA.

After all, no protocol difficulty whatsoever with the Princess Royal visiting Canada in 2023

When you think that his wife was having major surgery just two months later, may be there were more important priorities to him at the time, rather than a quick trip to Aus?

16 August (when England won the semi-final) to 16 January is 5 months. Yes, I suppose there could have been health news in early/mid August that prevented him from travelling then, but the timelines seem a bit unlikely (if surgery had been indicated then, or cancer suspected, then her medical procedures would surely have taken place substantially earlier).

They were both fit and well enough to travel to France for rugby fixtures in September, and William also visited USA between those two trips (Catherine had UK engagements during his 2 days there)

I had been wondering, with the benefit of hindsight, if Catherine pulling out of the Singapore Earthshot visit in November, explained by William that it was because of George's exams, perhaps also had health as a factor. That she would not be going was known by early October. So perhaps by autumn there were some indications. But even if there were, it was not preventing William from going away long-haul until after November.

ajandjjmum · 24/05/2024 17:10

Sorry - I was wrong. I thought the final was later in the year.

AnnieSF · 24/05/2024 17:10

Awww Harry used to love to camp out in Africa so he probably sees himself as qualified to visit every country because he's a Prince and he's married to a biracial African American woman. Twat!

CremeFresh · 25/05/2024 09:10

I'm not sure how much to believe what is reported anymore but this sounds about right given MM's penchant for microphones

Not sure that’s true but good for him if it is.

He’ll be crucified by the Sussex squad if true.

I just read on X that Misan Harriman was employed by Boris Becker and helped broker a Nigerian oil deal which Becker claims is one of the deals that helped bankrupt him. I googled it to see if it was just another X fabrication, but it seems they did have a working relationship, how bizarre.

This is from Wikipedia.

"In 2013, Boris Becker made investments of more than 10 million US dollars in Nigerian oil wells - mediated by Becker's Nigerian employee Misan Harriman and the Canadian bank Forbes & Manhattan"

From a translated Spiegel report.

Germany's Spiegel magazine has published claims Mr Becker's business dealings went far deeper than celebrity endorsements and media appearances.

The magazine claims it has seen details of a single investment of "more than $US10 million" in Nigerian oil prepared for Mr Becker by Forbes & Manhattan, a Canadian investment bank and a former associate of the tennis player. Forbes & Manhattan did not reply to a request for comment.

The purported internal emails leaked to Spiegel note he (Becker) had met recently with Mr Mittal and John Mahama, the Ghanaian president at the time, and describe him as "someone who can open doors for us in certain circles".

Aren't we hearing next stop on the 'Royal Tour' is Ghana.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 25/05/2024 09:50

Yes supposedly this is going to be their thing now, pseudo royal tours, they are probably still giddy with the adulation from Nigeria. Is it all going to be under the guise of hosting Invictus? Who is paying? Do Harry and Meghan get a fee? Have the Ghanaian government officially invited them or is it the military? So many questions.

Thedom · 25/05/2024 10:09

It looks like it is a well worn path to the same countries for those wanting to make money. Is Misan brokering financial deals for them too, I wonder !.

MrsFinkelstein · 25/05/2024 10:33

Talking of Misan - he's submitted one of his photos of H&M to the National Portrait Gallery.

It initially sounds like it's going be on display, or that they requested it. But it's just going to be catalogued into their archive.

Yes, I've just commented on another thread.
Harriman has submitted it.
It's up to the NPG if they decide, on evaluation, to display it.
They get a lot of submissions. This is one of many.

It all comes across as so ridiculous. The SS squad tried to destroy the Jamaica tour by the Prince and Princess of Wales by talking about colonialism. Now the Sussexes are possibly embarking on pretend Royal tours in various African countries. It could appear as Harry the big white saviour pontificating - what is his authority here? Is it because his wife is biracial? What does he have to say that is really relevant? Give your artificial leg a name? Quick photo opportunity. Is it because she is biracial? Is it because they need to be feted and lauded? He's just a mugu.

I'm confused about Misan Harriman. I thought he was a photographer. His website describes him as such, along with being an activist.

How does that connect to brokering deals on behalf of Boris Becker? That just seems so unconnected.

This sounds like M&H trying your best to bolster themselves with boring insignificant garbage as usual. Their friend basically went the NPG a picture - big deal 🙄

According to one report, "Harriman took up photography in 2016 following a career in finance." His wikipedia says "after school, Harriman worked in recruitment in the City of London. He began photographing in 2017 and is self-taught"

According to Twitter / X, his life prior to becoming a photographer in 2016/2017 has been scrubbed from the internet. There is one or two photos of him with Boris Becker to be found.

He is from a very wealthy Nigerian royal family, he has had some incredible opportunities considering from a very early point in his photographic career.

The Princess of Wales is Patron of the National Portrait Gallery - surely there is no way they would display this image of the grifters.

Serenster · 25/05/2024 13:01

I imagine the trustees would make their own decision about whether to display it or not - I think there can be no argument it meets their brief in that Meghan and Harry are currently major British figures? The NPG has several photos and depictions of the couple already in their collection, too.
