Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

She must have! Bespoke Givenchy Dior and McCartney are very, very pricey.

Bespoke Dior. Although it's a dark colour, she looks lovely. The cut and fit are spot on, and that's a tricky neckline. The hat is perfect in terms of shape and balance. I was her proper style fan in the early days! She looks so chic here.

The Duchess of Sussex took a cue from her royal wedding dress for today’s celebratory outing.

So wearing making, lookong after your hair and teeth now means you are trying to impress. Well then we all do that don't we including you?

With clothes I buy expensive clothes cos of the material and quality of the cut obviously not to her level in terms of £ but more than just high street. I'm not doing it to impress anyone I do it because it last longer than cheap material.

I wear makeup and ensure my hair is looking good because thays how I like it not to impress anyone

And looking after your teeth is good to do to ensure they last you until you die and if it's cosmetic dentistry ppl do it if they don't like how they look and it gi es them confidence not to impress anyone.

People go get tans, wax hair off, doe their nails, grt botox etc for themselves who here does any of those things to impress people but you say she does all things clearly to impress others. Lol thats ridiculous

I’m which case, no need for positive posts only. She’s dressing and grooming for her own edification and doesn’t care what her critics say, so neither should anyone else. Including the people who start these threads.

DelectableMe · 17/07/2024 07:46

These threads are started to judge style. Good and not so good.

No, I’m saying that if someone has bothered to look after their hair and teeth or do their nails and get Botox and wax etc, they are unlikely to want to spoil the overall effect by wearing ill fitting clothes. And that applies whether doing it to make themselves feel good or to impress other people. But you are determined not to see the logic in this so there is no point discussing it further 😊

Baital · 17/07/2024 08:13

Pre-children, when I had a career and some disposable income (😀) I would always factor in alterations when I bought something expensive. It was usually about 5% of the cost, I would buy the closest off the peg size, and then have it fitted to me.

The rest of the time I was happy to wear cheap clothes that were 'near enough' my size.

But it's odd that she wears expensive clothes in the public eye but doesn't get them properly fitted. After all, she doesn't have to go on public tours. They could have visited Nigeria, for example, privately to connect with her heritage.

This is one of my favourite looks on Meghan, a Brandon Maxwell bright yellow shift dress (that she could only wear muted colours as a working royal was, of course, not true). If you look at the cut and the fit, it's excellent. She looks gorgeous, and very appropriate for a Commonwealth event.

Wholeheartedly agree, that was a great look, a very simple shape that suited her. The blue dress she was wearing in that iconic rain shot was lovely too.

Yeah style I don't judge if it fits well I'm looking at is thay dress nice in terms of shape, design, colours, patterns not if it's fitted well on the person.

I really don’t think Meghan is choosing her clothes on how long they’ll last.

How well clothes fit and wearing the correct shape and length for your body is part of having style. You would instinctively think that something that doesn’t fit well detracts from the overall look that someone is going for, even if you didn't consciously realise why you thought that. Style is not just all about the things you listed. It is about how “put together” a person looks. Otherwise it would be easy for everyone to look stylish all the time

Really? Primark can look fabulous if it fits well. The most expensive outfit will look cr*p if it doesn't. Good fit is the basis of style. We are all different shapes so 'style' is about the right clothes for our specific shape, fitted to suit our body

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 17/07/2024 08:57

The only way someone would not care how well their clothes fitted is if they were getting paid to wear them.

They won’t care if it looks wrong or fits badly or is creased. The money is in the bank.

#griftlife

I agree with @Baital and @smilesy

Style is about so much more than donning a nice outfit. I’ve just seen a woman on the train who wafted on in a gorgeous summery dress. She had accessorised it beautifully, hair in loose curls, make up minimal but perfection. She looked fabulous and I told her so.

Primark dress from last year she said.

She wore it well. That is style.

When M wears it well she looks incredible. More often than not, she just doesn’t.

Nearly the only time she looks phenomenal is when she is in casual clothes. That she knocks out of the park.

Mylovelygreendress · 17/07/2024 09:12

I agree that Meghan looks great in jeans and white shirt combo . I do wish she would ditch the shorts ( unless at the beach)

LaMarschallin · 17/07/2024 09:16

Agree she seems to suit a more casual look or perhaps is just better at putting that look together.
I also prefer her hair in a softer bun - like the one on her wedding day, for example.
The very severe, scraped back look is very unforgiving on nearly everyone unless they're classically beautiful.

Agreed

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 17/07/2024 09:57

@NoNekkidNonNigerians I really agree with your post. I have a friend like the lady on your train. She can make the cheapest garment look incredible, and she does use a tailor even on less valuable clothes if she likes them and wants to look good in them. She has an important job, and part of her overall authority is in her “look”.

Meghan quite often looks like her clothes are wearing her precisely because they don’t fit properly. She reminds me of a kid trying on their mum’s clothes when they are too baggy and long, like the dresses she wore in Nigeria. And also, wearing the wrong outfit in a given situation really detracts from the neutral viewer admiring her style. I want to look at an outfit and think, oh yes, if I was to go to X occasion, I would like to wear something like that too. So, clearly I am not going to be an invited dignitary at an occasion like MM is, but if I have an outdoor work event where a professional but stylish outfit is needed and I am looking for inspiration, a shorts and flip flop combo is not going to be it; and whilst that outfit might look perfect elsewhere, as an inspiration for appropriate and stylish dressing for my purposes, I am just scrolling by whenever MM appears, because I know whatever she wears hasn’t been thought through for the setting and occasion.

I agree with PP though, her casual style is really nice, as were many of her working royal outfits, when she more often than not looked lovely.

PrincessMee · 17/07/2024 10:24

Of course she is dressing to impress - that's par for the course in the showbiz world. Get the clicks, bring in the next job. She isn't wandering about in Goodwill clothing 😂

Some of my favourite Meghan looks. I don’t think I’ve liked anything she’s worn since they went to America. We have different styles but I can appreciate a good outfit when I see it (as with Catherine) but she’s just had oversized, badly fit, creased and crumpled clothes recently.

Love the turquoise dress.

I’m sorry but I didn’t care for the leather skirts at all. Love the tops on them though.

She suits jewel colours. I don’t know why she insists with greigey tones.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 17/07/2024 10:53

I don’t understand her love for neutral/grieve tones either. Especially when she made a big deal about having to wear muted tones so she wasn’t wearing the same colours as the senior royals. And then saying she started wearing colours again when she was leaving for Canada (with She’s a Rainbow playing in the background of the documentary during the montage of colourful outfits).

Singingseals · 17/07/2024 11:24

I think that she wants to be perceived as a classic, understated style icon in the style of Carolyn Besette-Kennedy. But it’s a style that simply doesn’t suit her, I find it weird that she hasn’t worked that out. My own “look” has improved immeasurably since realising I look shit in a “crisp white shirt”, in spite of received fashion wisdom that everyone needs such an item as a wardrobe staple. Understanding what suits you is one of the few pleasures of getting older (if you are into fashion), but it certainly seems to elude Meghan. Agree that she looks fabulous in jewel colours, and the severe hair does her no favours.

Baital · 17/07/2024 11:29

Yes! Moving from 'fashionable ' to 'suits me' has been a benefit of aging!

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 17/07/2024 11:37

I’m afraid Meghan is not in the same league as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

That woman was elegance personified. Effortlessly stylish and able to wear most things and look incredible.

There was a grace there that many of us can only dream of.

M needs to find her own style and not be trying to emulate someone like that. She will fail for they are poles apart.
