To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

The thing is like it or not, Meghan and other women who marry into the RF have the huge platform they do because of who they have married. To say otherwise is disingenuous.

Some adapt well. I’d say Kate has.

Some make mistakes and then adapt. Sophie for one. Though it took years.

Some make lots of mistakes and can’t adapt. Sarah F.

Some can’t take adapt and get out. Meghan.

Yes and we all know that “adaptation” in the context of the RF means, conform, behave, stick to protocol, keep quiet, don’t voice opinions, don’t get fat, smile at every opportunity, put up with nonsense from the men in grey suits, other family members, the press, and put up with having your income and living situation controlled by your father-in-law, then your brother-in-law …

… not a particularly attractive prospect tbh.

Not something to look up or try to see as some sort of role model either

Thedom · 12/05/2024 16:23

Harry has had plenty of moments when he looked annoyed, but he looks totally pissed off in so many of today’s photos. Meg also looks like she has had enough, a few pained smiles. Guess they can’t escape using security as an excuse, seeing as they have, what appears to be, a full regiment of SAS type military accompanying them.

Just under half of Nigeria are Christians

Indeed. Most odd to be signifying alignment with the 48%. What will the 52pc think?

Not at all but then why marry in to it at all? It’s a choice. If she was too stupid to do any homework it’s on her.

hermenmumster · 12/05/2024 16:27

Handing out her jam and reading her children's book to school children in a backless dress. Odd colonial style meet and greets.
Impactful..!

ToCoffeeOrNorNotToCoffee · 12/05/2024 16:28

Not sure I can see the issue. So Russia and China want a piece of Nigeria. What exactly are they after? And why does it present a problem if H&M cosy up with Nigeria? It looks all wrong but I don't think I am informed enough to understand the implications.

And why are the British media reporting it in a quasi royal style? Celebrating Meghan, isn't that a bit of a u-turn?

Yes even " pretend Royal work" gets tedious at times. There's only so many dance shows you can put up with. 3 days is pushing it.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 12/05/2024 16:31

I didn’t say it was an attractive prospect @Blinkeredsoul34

If it was my dc I’d tell them to run a mile quite frankly. All the money in the world wouldn’t make me want that level of scrutiny or intrusion.

AnnieSF · 12/05/2024 16:31

@ToCoffeeOrNorNotToCoffee the Daily Mail is taking the piss. They're not serious.

YaMuvva · 12/05/2024 16:35

ToCoffeeOrNorNotToCoffee · 12/05/2024 14:44

Is that an ostentatious cross necklace she's wearing in a predominantly Muslim country? Interesting choice.

The two are very out of their depth.

I wonder why they are trying to cosy up with Nigeria? Is it to show they get a warm welcome in (African) Commonwealth countries? Are things not working out in Caliland and they're looking to move to Africa?

Does anyone here know more about Nigerian British relations? Anything interesting there? (other than their colonial past).

Edited

I did watch the first couple of episodes of their Netflix 6-parter and they were absolutely convinced that “Willy” was jealous because “we did the job [of a working Royal] better than he did”. He said this with an absolutely straight face.

I honestly think like David Windsor they want to show people “it should have been me”. They want to so desperately stick it to his brother and sick sister in law.

Yes - certainly true of women wanting to do well in most professional jobs too.

Fine if you want to run your own ship, but I’d never take a job at an American investment bank, to take one example, and think I could change it, or expect it to change for me. Once very good reason why I never have. As a PP said, why Meghan chose to willingly marry into the British Royal Family is on her.

Meghan looks so much better today in both outfits, I really liked the yellow dress in particular, the colour really suits her.

I agree, the Yellow dress and wrap she’s been gifted is MUCH more appropriate. I’m thinking she’s listened to her critics for once

She really suits yellow. My favourite ever outfit when she was a working Royal was a beautiful yellow dress

Agree, glad she’s listened to the feedback and (mostly) covered her shoulders at last!

Too right they shouldn’t voice opinions. They are overly privileged millionaires who visit struggling causes, there is no place for their opinions. They are ribbon cutters and baby kissers - I’m happy to pay for them as long as they stay in their lane of helping causes and raising awareness, but the moment they start announcing which side of the fence they sit on is the moment they no longer become relevant. The Queen never expressed an opinion an her 70+ years of reign, and as a result she’s the most popular Royal ever

As for the rest of your post - half is nonsense and the other half is how it works. In exchange you get millions of pounds and immense wealth for very little hard work. Boo bloody hoo

I agree, I think “good for them” if they marry into the RF (the same way I think for anyone entering a happy marriage) but it’s not something for little girls or boys to actually aspire to, surely?

I’m thinking there is a typo in your post because you mentioned Sudan, which is in North-East Africa.
No it’s not typo .

In older European Maps the land south of the Sahara was known as Negroland , in Arabic it’s translated to Land of the black people , Sud in Arabic is black, this is how we get the name Sudan.
modern day Sudan was always known as Nubia, and to this day there are tribes in Aswan and along the borders of Sudan and Egypt that call themselves Nubians to distinguish themselves from other tribes.
Western Africa was predominately Muslim for centuries, and had lots of Arabic words mixed into their language , the whole area was an important trading route.

I am glad you highlighted that these were European maps of the time.

These maps just lumbered black people as a monolithic group. “Black Skinned or negroes”.

However, these regions had Kingdoms. So descendants are able to trace back their Igbo lineage, or Yoruba lineage, or Hausa lineage etc..back to these kingdoms that existed pre-1900s.

😕

I’m not sure the folks in Hereford would appreciate that comparison…. …….

In fairness Harry definitely has inherited Charles and QE2’s resting bitch face 🤣 I do wonder if the heat over there is a lot for them. It would be for me

BemusedAmerican · 12/05/2024 16:53

@ToCoffeeOrNorNotToCoffee to start, they are trying to create division between the US and the UK, long-term allies. Each country is trying not to be associated with them.

They are also trying to destabilize the UK government. In addition to the Sussex Squad, Russia was fueling the horrible rumors about W & K with paid bots.

The UK government had to publicly announce H & M weren't official representatives to cover themselves. Smart move on their part.

As an American, I felt myself cringing at Meghan blatantly ignoring cultural norms and looking like an ugly American. I can't believe Harry was sitting on a throne on red carpets. I also agree that playing the American anthem would have been more appropriate for an American citizen and an American resident but I personally happy the US isn't being blamed for the visit.

MacavitytheMystery · 12/05/2024 16:57

It is really well past time Charles stripped them of their titles. It’s the only way to stop this nonsense.
