To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

No.

Ahh! I see - thanks.

On Meghans clothes. Is it possible she is being paid to promote certain brands and the target market is Americans so it really doesn’t matter if the outfit is appropriate for visiting a Muslim country or for watching sports. She just needs maximum publicity for the outfit.

That doesn't matter! She's still disrespecting her hosts.

It’s a bit Madonna and Child, isn’t it. Really odd to kiss a picture like it’s a religious relic.

It's a copy of a photograph, isn't it, like the other one of the wedding?

I’ve no idea, but that would makes sense.

upinaballoon · 11/05/2024 21:10

Paint and turpentine do smell rather nice, as do some felt pens. Creosote beats the lot.

Do you ever kiss a picture of your mother? I do. Yes, I know he wasn't kissing it, but if he does in private I would not think it strange. Does anyone know who painted them?

I think there's a famous photo of Diana holding him when he was a toddler - something very like that anyway.

upinaballoon · 11/05/2024 21:17

I don't know how to link but I googled 'Diana holding Harry' and found a pic which was most likely the inspiration for the painting.
I think we could also find Diana holding baby William if we googled 'Diana holding William'.
I'm quite old - I remember some of the images.

Not at all a fan of Meghan’s clothing choices generally, but I quite like this colour on her. The dress looks nice when she’s sat down, not so great when she’s stood up. I wonder if the ruffles at the bottom are heavy and make it hang funny?

It’s a great colour on her and I love the ruffle hem.

Thedom · 11/05/2024 21:27

The red dress is gorgeous, although no thought given to her underwear, again the dress is purely for scene stealing. She could have worn outfits that were stylish and considerate of her hosts and environment. . Here is Michelle Obama, Amal Clooney, and Melinda Gates in Malawi and South Africa, beautifully dressed and all very appropriate..

It's a very plain and boring dress and it's still too open when you are visiting a conservative country like Nigeria. For someone who claims to be 43% Nigerian, she hasn't a lot of respect for their cultural norms.

JSMill · 11/05/2024 21:29

@Thedom great pictures of very classy ladies.

MacavitytheMystery · 11/05/2024 21:29

I think she looks really inappropriate. No bra, showing lots of flesh, sandals hanging off her feet. I haven’t liked anything she’s worn in this tour. She looks ridiculous and she isn’t showing respect for her hosts.

YaMuvva · 11/05/2024 21:29

Just read the news article with their pictures of the tour.

God these two are absolutely desperate to be ‘proper’ Royals aren’t they. The cosplaying is quite creepy.

Also why does she pull him away from speaking to people? She did it when they were in the UK too.

I also find the incessant hand holding unnecessary. You are people in your 40’s not small children, let go FFS.

YaMuvva · 11/05/2024 21:35

I agree about the disrespectful clothing

theres this picture with Meghan with Nigerian women who are in traditional clothing. You’d think with Meghan’s recent revelation that she is 43% Nigerian she’d also wear traditional dress so why is she wearing a badly fitted strapless dress that looks like it’s been bought from Shein?

Did she forget to pack her underwear?

YaMuvva · 11/05/2024 21:42

I see Meghan gave the word salad “Little girls want to see someone who looks like them” speech, yet again. You’d think she was the only mixed race woman to ever exist.

What is the point of that 'speech', in a country where virtually everyone is black?

I was wondering this too. Culturally unaware. Her outfits alongside the stylish traditional Nigerian woman are cringe. Less would have been more.

I am happy to report that my DDs have a number of role models that 'look like them' and who have achieved rather more than marrying someone rich

Why anyone thinks she has anything worthwhile to impart to anyone is beyond me. She has no area of expertise, no proven track record of achievement in any area and can't string a coherent sentence together. She is a horribly uncharismatic speaker. She's got some arresting veneers (frequently looking as if she might sink them into someone) a questionable taste in both men and frocks and that's it. Apart from jam, of course.

MacavitytheMystery · 11/05/2024 22:08

I would love to know what her hosts and their guests really think of this silly pair of fools.
