To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

I haven’t followed much but I did see the coquette- ish pose over the shoulder in the peach backless dress at the school

Either Meghan totally forgot where she was or it was a bit disturbing - you don’t flirt with school kids
it reminded me of the inappropriate hug after a male student called her “beautiful innit “ at the U.K. school visit

it’s creepy and cringy

And the end of democracy and the voting system, since we won’t be able to exercise our opinions on political parties unless the politicians know us and us them personally. How very Big Brother.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 11/05/2024 17:51

Just looked at Lisa Folawiyo's designs and they are stunning. I could see Meghan in one of those

I've just looked too. Some of those seem to be very much Meghan's style. I think she could wear them really well.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/05/2024 17:52

As has been pointed out before, it won't do much for the humanities either, as we can't discuss (to name a few) Shakespeare, Rembrandt, Moliere, Henry II or Mark Rothko because we didn't know them.

It's such a juvenile argument. And it's always presented as if it's unanswerable. Like 'well they don't care about you!'

IcedPurple · 11/05/2024 17:57

Looking at the pictures pps have posted here, I don't know what the problem is, but once she is required to dress for formal occasions, she just loses the plot.

The thing is, most of these are not formal occasions at all. A visit to a school, a volleyball match. accompanying your husband to a military event. You'd expect to see her in fairly informal clothes at such events, but Meghan treats everything as if it's the Oscars. It was the same at Invictus. Everyone else was in sporty clothes, but she was in designers outfits. It just looks silly.

I agree. It’s as if she is just wearing frocks for the sake of it. Which makes it seem
all the more likely that his “tour” is a
merching opportunity

Yes, totally inappropriate for a school visit in a conservative country. It's like something you might wear to a beach wedding in California, and not even a great dress for that.

The white suit she's wearing to the Defence Ministry is better, but again she is overdressed given that she's only there as Harry's wife.

Plain white is plain and certainly not over dressed. No colour, no mixture of primary colours, no bold patterns, no sparkles, ho head tie, no huge gold sets or beads. It's the simplest ever!
Goodness! How can plan white with nothing be over dressed! My word!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/05/2024 18:05

I thought the white dress was a bit wrapped in a towel after a bath.

jeffgoldblum · 11/05/2024 18:07

The optics from the pictures I've seen do not look good to me .
Personally I finding it all a bit colonial and white saviour for my taste .
Also I'm not understanding what the point is , they no longer have the global power or clout to help these people or make any meaningful difference to their lives .

ajandjjmum · 11/05/2024 18:07

The white dress is beautiful and she looked beautiful - but totally inappropriate in a country where modesty is expected.

😊 Shall convey this to Lisa. We're friends from law school and she's married to my family friends.

I'm not sure what relevance the colour has? Other than that it really made her stand out when everyone else was wearing bold colours?

And an off the shoulder full length evening gown does look overdressed for a lunch at a military venue.

The Sussex Squad are now bullying and hounding Donu Kogbara for speaking out against them and their visit. Yet Harry is out there waxing lyrically about mental health and it’s ok not to be ok. I just can’t bear the hypocrisy of it!

THIS! They are out there preaching about bullying when they have lied and bullied others in public - not even anonymously. Neither of them have communication with other family except for Doria. Hypocrites of the highest order.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/05/2024 18:11

Which is a very smart move. Everyone's eyes will go to her because the white will reduce all the bold colours and pattern to background.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/05/2024 18:11

I've got Twitter blocked, but have just seen the clip of Meghan turning away from the young lasses repeated elsewhere

How utterly graceless; from the usual instant switched-on grin it's pretty clear she saw a better opportunity, but what sort of a person makes it so obvious?

And so much for the endless claims about what an asset she'd have been ...

LaMarschallin · 11/05/2024 18:11

I got some funny looks when I turned up to the PTA in my wedding dress, I can tell you.

Rinoachicken · 11/05/2024 18:12

Some more pictures of the printed dress. The trouble with a high slit (or any slit really) is that when you sit down, the slit rides up and a lot is revealed, more than is revealed when you are standing.

It’s a conservative country, largely Muslim, and it’s a sporting event. Bare shoulders should be a no no - high slits and cut outs and lots of flesh on show…just don’t know what she was thinking tbh.

The other ladies are indeed splendid. Unfortunately that looks like a wedding photo because of the white dress

My thoughts exactly!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/05/2024 18:14

Guests at the lunch were able to choose from five different menus including special fried rice, fish fillet sauce and jollof rice.
There was cow offal with ofada sauce or if you they were reluctant to try the traditional Nigerian menu they could opt for spaghetti bolognese or grilled chicken.

Apparently neither Harry or Meghan ate any of the food on offer at the lunch.

Well on top of that, and the military inspection Harry carried out from a red carpeted platform , Harry sat on a throne on a red carpet watching traditional dancing yesterday. Why does a private citizen need a red carpet and a throne on a non-state, non-royal visit? And weren’t the RF detractors criticising King Charles and Queen Camilla a few months back for walking on a red carpet in Kenya?

Well if you can haunt your own house in a full length ballgown before making jam, you can jolly well run the tombola in a wedding dress. People need to get a grip!

I imagine the FCO is watching this visit with narrowed eyes and some drumming of fingers on desks.

and it looks like it is barely covering her nips.

And now that it has been pointed out, I can see it is palm leaves, but it looks more like zebra print than palm fronds.
