To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

And there wasn’t that much time I don’t think

Why oh why didn’t she engage a cutting edge Nigerian designer to create some outfits for her to showcase?

Totally agree. Lisa Folawiyo designs some fabulous dresses in gorgeous prints. Many with dropped hems at the waist which is a look that I love.

@CoffeeCantata only there was no red dress. 🤔

Well, quite!

But the actual truth doesn't matter, as we've learned in recent years! I try to see the funny side for the sake of my sanity, but it's pretty scary stuff.

@CoffeeCantata , the Scarlett O’Hara red dress was never identified, was it? Nobody could figure out what the poster was talking about. If I wanted to make a point, I could say Meghan’s tripe coloured dress reminds me of a 1930s colonial era evening frock straight out of White Mischief.

Definitely! I think the lesson here is that sometimes these interpretations tell us more about the critic than about their target.

You can make anything mean anything if you put your mind to it, or if you a member of the 'I'm more offended than you' brigade.

Just read the article you linked to. Under both respectful and cultural considerations it's mentioned that it's best to dress modestly, covering knees and shoulders. I'm sure Meghan could dress glamorously - if that's what she's aiming at - without extra cutouts and splits to expose more flesh.

I normally don't do clothes comments. I really don't. I stay off fashion boards. But today's outfit, shown on reddit, is a sleeveless zebra- striped sundress with a navel cut- out and slit in front to her crotch. In one photos, she is sitting with her entire leg exposed. She has turned into The Ugly American.

I like that dress, it was more the sort of thing I expected in that it was cotton and a nice strong pattern. I think it suited her nicely.

If this is an Invictus mission (which is very much Harry's bag), I am irritated to see her at the front, striding in with arms extended to give big hugs to people she's possibly meeting for the first time, while Harry, from behind, leans forward with his hand extended like an afterthought. Has he left his balls in Montecito? He so often appears as her plus one but this should be his moment - it's an unsettling dynamic and screams a celebrity tour not a royal one.

Yes I noticed this and also noticed one man reciprocate and then obviously felt embarrassed by the amount of skin that he felt and dropped his arm very quickly.

MummyJ12 · 11/05/2024 14:38

She looks conscious of how exposed she is in the zebra dress. It looks like she’s holding the slit closed at the top here to cover her modesty. It’s certainly a daring look she’s rocking for somewhere like Nigeria I agree.

Good to see Harry in the IG top. 👍

He looks really uncomfortable after they dressed him.

Indeed!

LaMarschallin · 11/05/2024 14:43

Goodness, her legs look very thin in that picture.

Thedom · 11/05/2024 14:44

Is the Zebra print a 'nod' to the continent she is visiting ?

At least she is consistent, one shitty outfit after another. That being said, she had a gorgeous white dress on at an evening event, she does really likes to show off those shoulders.

AnnieSF · 11/05/2024 14:45

BemusedAmerican · 11/05/2024 12:25

Listen to what he is telling the patient. He should just smile and keep his mouth shut.

Oh dear that is mortifying.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 11/05/2024 14:50

I love the zebra dress but don’t think it’s appropriate for this event.

I don’t get the cut out bit or high slit, tbh, but then I don’t have the youth or figure for it! I’d have definitely worn in my younger and slimmer days but for a casual bbq than a more formal event.

I thought Meghan rocked the white outfit yesterday.

AnnieSF · 11/05/2024 14:51

The clue to that dress is in the name of it Tropicana Nights. It really is like she is there in the context of fashion wife but then she is nothing official in IG. Another awkward dress for everyday gadding about and interacting with others.

Janiie · 11/05/2024 14:52

Omg what are they doing, totally cringeworthy to see clips on the news, it's like a pretend royal tour.

I can't believe his wife was an actress in a successful show she looks awkward and fake all the time, like she's incredibly self conscious. There's no natural charm visible.

I thought they'd left all those horrid camera clicks for a life of jam making and gossip book writing.

And a full length strapless ultra form-fitting white dress for ... lunch

Tropicana Nights?

Phoenix Nights more like.

Lunch - I thought it a formal evening meal.

She looks good in it - though under covered compare to the other ladies but not as bad as she had at times last few days - but lunch it does seem less in keeping.

I think that an ongoing issue with her though -she is thinking pictures which will be around years and not the actual events and what she is going to be doing or terrain she'll encounter - hence high heels on polo grass - looks find on stage but inappropriate and bit like she hadn't thought things though on the grass - and side less dress for school and for hugging strangers in.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 11/05/2024 15:10

The other ladies are indeed splendid. Unfortunately that looks like a wedding photo because of the white dress

aparagonofvirtueanddecorummyarse · 11/05/2024 15:23

Yes. I do wonder what the ladies are thinking about the white strapless number.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 11/05/2024 15:28

It makes her look like an outsider rather than marking her out as special- the only one who didn’t understand the assignment and therefore sticks out like a sore thumb. It does smack of cultural misunderstanding.

To be fair to her, she had be allowed to cover up quite a multitude of ignorant faux pas under the flimsy excuse of ‘cultural differences’.

For a grown woman in her 40s there is no excuse for going into a professional situation so poor informed and expect everyone just to brush it under the carpet.
