To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

@CoffeeCantata only there was no red dress. 🤔

Diana appeared to treat people as human, as important, as equals. She was there because she wanted to be. She showed empathy.

Meghan and Harry seem to be treating them as photo ops, as if the people are lucky to be near them, as a chore. This video of Harry cajoling that man to name his prosthesis and the one of Meghan walking away from those girls is night and day from how Diana did things.

It unfortunately is coming across that way.

It shouldn’t be a chore.

Just a privilege.

Strangers have such interesting tales to tell.

If you let them.

MummyJ12 · 11/05/2024 13:24

That’s really interesting @JSMill it’s making me wonder if Invictus are fully supportive of this visit and if they believe it’s been necessary for Harry and Meghan to visit the country so early in the day of the bid to host the games (they’re hoping to host in 2029 apparently).
I am sensing that there is a distance forming and a possible dissonance between Harry and the foundation. There are not many photos of Harry on TwiX even from London (most are reposted from other users of the platform). There are also the rumours about Harry being upset that Invictus were thinking of bringing Mike Tindall in as an ambassador.
I can just imagine them not being supportive of this visit but Harry being so stubborn and on his own agenda, just going ahead with it anyway on the basis of “links with Invictus”.
I have to add, this is just my opinion and it doesn’t count for anything - before people start demanding links from me! 😆.

I didn’t get that impression here. I guess it’s all depends on what photo or video is shared.

I hope the trip goes well. Nigeria have given them a wonderful welcome, as they do for guests and there seems to be a real jovial spirit about it all.

The only red Scarlett O'Hara-like dress that I have seen worn by a royal was the awful red one with the weird nipples that Meghan wore.

Kate wore a close- fitting white dress on that tour. It was too form- fitting for Scarlett to have been allowed to wear. She would have been branded a hussy. 😁 Kate looked dignified.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 13:26

@CoffeeCantata , the Scarlett O’Hara red dress was never identified, was it? Nobody could figure out what the poster was talking about. If I wanted to make a point, I could say Meghan’s tripe coloured dress reminds me of a 1930s colonial era evening frock straight out of White Mischief.

Catherine and William inspecting the troops in Jamaica was at the behest of the Jamaican authorities. The same was the case for H&M’s recreated colonial era balcony shot during their Australia/Fiji tour. And I assume the same is the case in Nigeria, with Harry doing something he’s been asked to do by his hosts. Only, he doesn’t represent any authority that would inspect troops (ie the head of state or his representative) nor is he a serving officer, so it is very odd optics and something he could have declined as inappropriate for his private citizen status.

The basic point is, the campaign of hate against Catherine and William for honouring their hosts in Jamaica was orchestrated by the Sussex Squad. But yet again, they will hypocritically point that finger at anyone but H&M, be it for racism, colonialism optics, online bullying, talking to the media about other family members or any other of their numerous double standards. And they continue to get away with their hypocrisy.

I normally don't do clothes comments. I really don't. I stay off fashion boards. But today's outfit, shown on reddit, is a sleeveless zebra- striped sundress with a navel cut- out and slit in front to her crotch. In one photos, she is sitting with her entire leg exposed. She has turned into The Ugly American.

MummyJ12 · 11/05/2024 13:55

$2850 for the zebra dress.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 11/05/2024 13:55

@BemusedAmerican You are right. She’s done what she was never allowed to do on their two royal tours- rock up to a country and play designer dress up for the cameras with two fingers up to local culture.

I really don’t understand what she thinks she’s achieving. That pink dress yesterday was awful, just wrong in every way: wrong colour for her, wrong cut from the situation and wrong length for the activity.

MrsFinkelstein · 11/05/2024 13:56

I saw Harry wearing an IG branded polo shirt as an event this morning, so that's excellent.

Meghan's dress was nice, didn't mind the pattern. Not sure about both thigh slit AND peekaboo cut out on the torso. Should have been one, not both. Not keen on her sandals, but I never like her in flats, it makes her feet look too big. I think she looks much better in slight heels. JMO.

Sandwichgen · 11/05/2024 13:56

It isn't quite crotch high, but the outfit (and also the pink dress) seem disrespectful to me. I don't think I've seen any of the women around her dressed less than conservatively, as might be expected in a largely Muslim country.

No-one could actually mistake this for a royal tour.

aparagonofvirtueanddecorummyarse · 11/05/2024 13:59

Oh dear.

Sageyboots · 11/05/2024 14:03

They’re watching a volleyball game, Harry is wearing an invictus polo shirt, I don’t understand wearing skimpy designer gowns and a full face of make up for normal daytime events, it just looks a bit weird.

She’s worn some nice linen shift dresses and belted shirt dresses in the past which would be much more appropriate, or an invictus polo with some of the lovely shorts she’s worn before.

LaMarschallin · 11/05/2024 14:03

I've just seen the zebra dress on another thread. I don't know if there's a better photo anywhere (just Googled and couldn't find any photo) but I wouldn't have recognised Meghan from that picture initially. I'm guessing there aren't too many pictures to choose from as yet. Can't see much of the dress itself as she's sitting down, but looks like any sundress to my untutored eye. Maybe there's not much to see, given the cutout and the split.

Aye.

Look at the marvellous women around her. Surely that would be her cue? Anyone’s cue?

I don’t think that the split or the peek or such an expanse of chest is hitting the mark.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 14:06

Ghastly.

MummyJ12 · 11/05/2024 13:59

Same designer and very similar style to the gold one from the awards ceremony in New York

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 14:13

I’ve just realised it’s the Hertz rental gold dress again, but a different print, straps and A-line skirt left in tact.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 14:13

X-post!

That's true. I notice in one photo she and Harry are wearing scarves and in the other the scarf is on her lap.
Maybe she put it on for a bit of coverage?

smilesy · 11/05/2024 14:14

Is it just me that can’t see the point in weird random peek-a-boo cutouts in dresses?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 14:15

Why oh why didn’t she engage a cutting edge Nigerian designer to create some outfits for her to showcase?

Sandwichgen · 11/05/2024 14:21

Because she couldn’t have them on loan or discounted?
