To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

There’s a video on TwiX where a lady is speaking to her, and while the lady is mid sentence, Meghan just turns her back and drags Harry off.
There’s also a little girl holding something out on a tray, and they both look dejected.
Really bad

Here. Oh look, a camera!!

You obviously missed the bit where you called me weird first….

I didn’t miss that, me calling you weird first wasn’t relevant to my answer re your accusation of calling you out. HTH.

It’s like banging my head against a brick wall, but last go. I said you called me out because you called me weird. Which you’ve just agreed you did. HTH.

MacavitytheMystery · 10/05/2024 23:30

Still clinging on to each other like giddy adolescents again I see.

KnickerlessParsons · 10/05/2024 23:32

Gosh! Hasn't Harry gone bald! There's just a little bit left in the front.

I've watched it a few times now, trying to work out if there's a reason she turned away from the woman talking to her and and girls, that isn't simple rudeness. I can't see one. Reminds me of the Fiji market women.

God this thread is like my kids bickering with each other.

Who ARE these M&H defenders who appear out of nowhere when they’re in the papers? More than once I’ve thought it’s like the couple pay people to post on here when they feel they’re going to need positive spin Confused. It’s so, so weird.

What? Do things like that happen in real life? Shock

AnnieSF · 11/05/2024 04:16

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 22:10

I’m intrigued to know what warning I should have given though! A klaxon? How would you hear that? A cat gif? They seem to cover most bases.

How about a clarion call? That might be appropriate.

AnnieSF · 11/05/2024 04:26

JSMill · 10/05/2024 20:31

I've just seen this picture on X. I don't think the teenage girls were very impressed with her dress either.

I have to agree with the dress not being appropriate. She's in a country where it is extremely hard for women in terms of discrimination in all aspects of their lives. What is Meghan showing these girls - dress in a provocative way , straighten your hair and you will succeed? "that's why I married him" and all this twee wifey shite? She's coming across as the opposite of what she claims she is.

That’s the thing about her, she really has no idea who she is, what image she’s trying to project, what she really believes about anything. A humanitarian who has extremely dysfunctional family relationships and uses people to promote herself. A feminist who makes her marriage to a much higher status man her main achievement in life. Someone passionately interested in women’s rights who bullies other women .
etc etc. The turning away from someone trying to talk to her like that just says it all. She thinks no one is watching so the mask slips, as if so often does.

The fact that she so often dresses inappropriately just sums up her lack of ability to know what is appropriate and why, because she can’t read the room and lacks empathy.

Once again she is trying to make this trip all about HER. ‘That’s why I married him’. It’s just so condescending apart from anything else. As if he’s a toy she chose carefully which has been turned into a trophy. No one cares why she ‘chose’ him.

I'm picturing Princess Anne's expression looking at these photos.

If you see the photos taken by people magazine, you can see the photo op that she is turning around for, with the talking lady and the child with the tray behind. It wasn’t a very long line of meet and greet, but meghan’s obviously more interested in getting a great photo (there’s a massive bank of photographers behind them). Also notice there’s a massive poster of Harry and Meghan (for well child) over to one side. It very much comes across as self promotion visit rather than a genuine interest in the people they’re visiting.

Compare that with Diana who did these kinds of visits in fairly ordinary clothes (sleeveless cotton shirt and trousers or whatever) and gave people her full attention. The press would talk about her and what she wore but she was always focussed on the cause/people she was meeting.

notimagain · 11/05/2024 07:03

Reference the query about Invictus, costs and …Well they flew first class for a start, and their hotel can’t be cheap.

LAX-ABV/LOS return via London in First with the likes of BA is going to be something like £7,000-£8000 per head at a minimum.

Rumours are there’s at least one PA plus at least one body guard traveling with them who TBF may or may not have travelled for slightly less in Club, in any event you get some magnitude of travel costs, it’ll be well into five figures Sterling.

If Invictus are footing the bill I hope they see some benefit PDQ.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/05/2024 07:53

Foreign Office advises against all travel to Kaduna state, north west of Abuja.

Given that Harry was happy to travel to such a dangerous area , can we now assume that he will stop his campaign to have Met security in the comparatively safe U.K? Even he must realise how daft it all looks ??

Not to worry @Serenster, this poster is never wrong and is a specialist in circular arguments 😆

Thedom · 11/05/2024 08:09

It is all looking a bit messy, self indulgent and inauthentic. The photos of the teenagers giving MM the side eye is a classic 😀

I don't think any of the worlds Royal Families, doing real tours, need to worry.

No, because he wants to get what he can from the UK taxpayer. Some sort of odd revenge situation going on there. It's so mixed up.

IsoldeWagner · 11/05/2024 08:13

You're right about Diana, @Sageyboots . For all her faults, she did make any visit or tour about the people and organisations, not her. Official royalty of whatever country seem to be able to do that - to shine a light on others and their endeavours.
It's the empty celebs who do it for fashion pics and self promotion.

MummyJ12 · 11/05/2024 08:14

I have noticed that nothing about this visit has been posted on the Invictus TwiX feed.

The Invictus website is carrying images of Harry at the London events midweek. There’s nothing so far about Nigeria.

Same as the TwiX feed then. Very odd!

Lifestooshort71 · 11/05/2024 08:27

If this is an Invictus mission (which is very much Harry's bag), I am irritated to see her at the front, striding in with arms extended to give big hugs to people she's possibly meeting for the first time, while Harry, from behind, leans forward with his hand extended like an afterthought. Has he left his balls in Montecito? He so often appears as her plus one but this should be his moment - it's an unsettling dynamic and screams a celebrity tour not a royal one.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 11/05/2024 08:36

Id Imagine the comments would be very different if Harry was the female and Meghan the male.

People would possibly be commenting on that this could be emotional abuse. He’s been alienated from some of his family and now lives abroad.

I’m not saying it is but my alarm bells would be ringing. And tbh they probably are.

But equally it could be that Harry is perfectly happy with the dynamic. Perhaps Meghan gave him the confidence to leave his family behind.

But a happy person doesn’t spill beans on the world stage.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 11/05/2024 08:40

IMO the optics on this are worse than the Cambridge royal tour of the Caribbean and shows the huge hypocrisy of die hard Harry and Meghan fanatics. Which other European royal could flounce about in a former colony in such a rude, disrespectful way as a ‘private citizen’ and be lauded by those apparently critical of colonialism. How do these people’s heads not explode?

The hasn’t been much main stream chat about it yet but social media is awash with Nigerians being pretty pissed off with the guard of honour they were given- as if it were an official state visit and with Meghan’s tasteless, backless dress.

They appear to think they’ve scored a huge win but I think in the end this will be a disaster for them. Who is advising them? I’ve never seen a pair of people with so little self awareness.

Very very much agree…the optics are all wrong.

If Meghan and Meghan’s clothes continue to be the centre of attention for the 48 hours that remain of this visit I think there’s going to be an increasing level of disquiet amongst many associated with Invictus.
