To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

It's very much for the Misan Harriman pictures/People magazine/Netflix/American Riviera Orchard etc.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 11/05/2024 08:59

Harry did an inspection of the military from a red carpeted platform. I am guessing Tu don’t offer that in their holiday package to other private citizens. This is nothing short of a “royal” visit complete with all the colonial overtones the SS was so critical about previously with the Cambridges.

When Meghan is talking to the woman she subsequently turns away from rudely, Missan Harriman is bobbing around in the background. This is all about them and their money shots, not remotely about the people they are visiting.

Not to worry @Serenster, this poster is never wrong and is a specialist in circular arguments 😆

It’s like they’ve been here before…

It looks that way..

Hate to say it but you almost wonder if a conversation along the following lines took place in Monte whatever…

H: “ Hey babe, some bloke in Abuja has invited me out there on an Invictus thing.”

M: “Eww..”

H: “Yeah but why don’t we make a long weekend of it…leave the kids here, you come with me. You can raise our profile and help merch some stuff”.

M: “Hold on I’ll start packing…”

I’d like to think I’m being terribly unfair but I guess we’ll have more of an angle on things by end of play today….if they are both seen wearing sensible clothes and having long serious discussions with wounded veterans I’ll wind my neck in (well, maybe……..no promises)..

bizzywizzy · 11/05/2024 09:12

There's a very good reason that Meghan's clothes are the main feature of any discussions about them.

To (more or less) quote Coco Chanel:

If a woman is badly dressed, you notice the dress.

If a woman is impeccably dressed, you notice the woman

All we notice are her clothes.

bizzywizzy · 11/05/2024 09:19

And the sudden heavy eyebrows?
They appeared in the latest polo match photos.
Delphine wotsername - Nacho's wife - has very heavy eyebrows.....
Perhaps thats the desired the 'old money polo set' look ;)

IsoldeWagner · 11/05/2024 09:24

Those heavy black eyebrows and the heavy bronzer is not a flattering look.

bizzywizzy · 11/05/2024 09:25

Can't work out how to edit my posts but want to add, I'm 5'2", bit podgy round the middle, earn £30k pa (not from sewing)
My clothes are from Vinted, chazzers and occasionally primark. I alter EVERYTHING to fit me, even primark stuff.
Before anyone accuses me of criticising M whilst dressing myself like Aunt Sally.
It's not difficult or expensive for anyone to have small alterations done but makes all the difference.

I am a wee bit puzzled about Harry’s visit to the wounded soldiers . Do military hospitals not have any medical equipment? Also , the men he spoke to had absolutely nothing ( apart from phones) not even a glass of water . Is that usual ?

I know it’s standing joke that these days VVIP visits promote rapid unpacking of brand new high biz jackets etc but it looks as if almost everything in that image and associated images is brand new out of the wrapper.

Some jokers elsewhere on a less PC forum are running with a theory that the soldiers on the beds are actually just there to guard the mattresses.

If this is an Invictus mission (which is very much Harry's bag), I am irritated to see her at the front, striding in with arms extended to give big hugs to people she's possibly meeting for the first time, while Harry, from behind, leans forward with his hand extended like an afterthought. Has he left his balls in Montecito? He so often appears as her plus one but this should be his moment - it's an unsettling dynamic and screams a celebrity tour not a royal one.

To be fair, Meghan does have some (limited) connection to the school visit.

The school, the Lightway Acadamy,is supported by the GEANCO Foundation - the foundation of the US-based Onyema family. The GEANCO Foundation aims to save and transform lives in Africa, and its activities include leading complex surgical missions and running rural family clinics in Nigeria. They also donate laptops, library, laboratory, and sports facilities to schools, and offer scholarships for girls.

Archewell has worked with the GEANCO Foundation by providing some products to be packed into backpacks (the backpacks were from children's luggage company Béis, which is linked in the Foundation’s reports on this, so they were most likely donated by the luggage company) for distribution in Nigerian schools (Archewell’s impact report says 2,500 girls in Nigeria received menstrual supplies and health education, which presumably relates to this initiative, but it’s not clear whether this school was a recipient of these backpacks). This is listed in Archewell’s 2022-23 Impact Report, but there’s no grant to GEANCO in their 2022 Financial statements. Given Archewell has partnered with Proctor & Gamble previously, the sanitary supplies may well have been donated to Archewell to onward donate. Or, possibly just purchased in Nigeria before being packed and distributed.

Either way, it’s not exactly a huge financial outlay for Archewell, but doesn’t stop Meghan and Harry turning up to be celebrated. They might have chosen to “shine a light” on GEANCO’s work, rather than their own small part of that, but that’s not their way, is it?

You know what, @Serenster - that's genuinely very interesting and very positive. How good would it have been if that had been effectively promoted, rather than H&M themselves, and her outfits?

Honestly, I think it’s likely they went on a blitz to make the ward look super uncluttered in advance of his visit. There are pictures of Harry’s parents visiting a leprosy hospital in Nigeria back int he 1980s and it’s exactly the same - the only thing next to the bed was a swan vase with flowers in it! 🤣

Ah yes, an actual proper Royal visit, where jokes in the run up about painting the coal white and clipping the grass with nail clippers weren’t that far off the reality…..

I don’t think the HRH in the one I got entangled with way back actually cared that much, she would have been just happy with a chance for a cigarette and chat but the senior wheels/managers felt differently.

It really is all about Meghan, Harry is just an accessory.

Well they aren't the ones writing the mews articles are they. Nor are they on here commenting and making it all about ehat they wear or about themselves.

The media and posters on here could focus on those things but they don't

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/05/2024 10:16

Harry is probably thinking about all the gifs and memes his outfit will generate!

This is just one single shit out of the e tire the part. Bet you could pick a picture from any event and find one to suit your negative narrative 😉 why don't u post the whole video instead.

No. They need to take responsibility. This is very typical. Nothing is ever their fault, it's the media, it's the non fans. They are always victims.
You know what? It takes intelligence and planning.
Make it about the charity - put it front and centre. They have PR and publicists, photographers, a film crew etc - direct them to make a focus on what matters.
And for once, stop blaming others for their missteps.

It's not "one single shit" (?)
It's a photograph of what Harry wore. He chose to wear it. He's an adult.

I mean here’s the whole video of the moment, starting at 1:10. He seemed awkward trying the first garment on, and was probably hoping that was as far as he had to go. His face when he sees the second garment 🤣 and he took the hat off at the first opportunity he could. He looked incredibly awkward throughout, not just a snapshot.

I haven't seen what happened for the ten minutes after he'd got the big garment on but the putting on of the blue waistcoat and the big-stripey looked good-natured to me and no more awkward than anyone putting on an unfamiliar garment in a very public place. Perhaps he looked more awkward afterwards. Would that have been because of the garment itself or because of the clicks?

upinaballoon · 11/05/2024 11:02

This is shallow and shocking but I wonder if they've finished breakfast and what they're going to do and wear today.

Ive watched the video and, I agree, I thought he behaved very respectfully and entered into the spirit of it all
