To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

There’s a video on TwiX where a lady is speaking to her, and while the lady is mid sentence, Meghan just turns her back and drags Harry off.
There’s also a little girl holding something out on a tray, and they both look dejected.
Really bad

Seen this too and I thought it was more than a little rude. Rather like when you’re talking to someone at a party and they look over their shoulder until they see someone else who (in their head and opinion) is further up the social ladder…..

OneHeartySnail · 10/05/2024 22:15

Because Harry was the only one of his family to marry for love, to be able to have side by side desks to work etc etc

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had their desks side by side. He is descended from them so they are 'part of his family'.

I think he's about 43% German.

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 22:26

Right, so it was your mistake, but you’re calling me out for it?

Calling you out? 😆 I just pointed out it’s confusing to insert yourself into a discussion with another poster & then call me weird for not realising you had done so.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 10/05/2024 22:26

Blinkeredsoul34 · 10/05/2024 20:19

I understand what you are trying to achieve with your comparison but I just find it bizarre, illogical and disrespectful to Nigeria frankly.

Which part of the systematic genocide of Christians, persecution, prosecution and murder of homosexuals, mass kidnappings of children and widespread FGM should we be respectful about?

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 22:29

@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar

You are disrupting the narrative.

Serenster · 10/05/2024 22:30

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 21:53

@Serenster Im not sure why you are replying to me telling me that
Official Royal family visits aren’t aimed at bringing about change?

I was responding to another poster who said the below?

“I can understand how an official visit may engineer change. Not so much a personal visit”

Obviously you can disagree with them but a bit weird to answer on their behalf.

You obviously missed the bit where you called me weird first….

StartupRepair · 10/05/2024 22:34

I'd love an interviewer to ask them what their understanding is of current social and political issues in Nigeria.

IsoldeWagner · 10/05/2024 22:36

StartupRepair · 10/05/2024 22:34

You want them to collapse on the floor weeping? Have a heart. Pre-arranged vanilla questions only. If you please.

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 22:37

Given what we have seen so far, how do you think this visit will achieve this aim?

Surely it’s way too early to measure that? Team Nigeria only made their debut last year from memory & it takes years to change societal stigma. They have certainly had a lot of press which is a good platform for raising awareness. Do you think they will have zero impact? Do you think it’s pointless that Nigeria joined Invictus?

Alternatively do you think the money spent on this trip might have been better spent directly helping injured veterans?

I have no idea how much was spent, what’s the figure? It’s a legitimate question when discussing most charitable endeavours & Im not sure how you measure short term direct help vs long term indirect help. I guess you only know years later. What do you think?

I think he's about 43% German.

Now, hang on. Let me think about this. Were his two Spencer grandparents English? His Grandpa Philip was all sorts and Granny Britain was half Scottish so after a long time of considered calculation I think he is more like 7% German than 43%. (But I know why you said 43% and I just hate people starting sentences with the word 'but').

Did Victoria and Albert marry for love, or just sit close together?

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 22:42

You obviously missed the bit where you called me weird first….

I didn’t miss that, me calling you weird first wasn’t relevant to my answer re your accusation of calling you out. HTH.

IsoldeWagner · 10/05/2024 22:43

They married for love. Her diaries show that they were absolutely smitten with each other.
I know he's not really 43% German.
It was a joke!

JSMill · 10/05/2024 22:45

@Pollipops1 as you have asked, I firmly believe that Invictus would have better spent the money on veterans rather than funding this jolly. What do you think? Oh wait you don't actually want to voice an opinion, you just want to stir it.

😂 You should write a satire.

upinaballoon · 10/05/2024 22:51

I like the peachy dress except that its length is a bit trippy-making even if it is this year's silly fashion. Obviously I can see from the sides that she isn't wearing a bra but I don't think the dress revealed anything there and she is held together by having fabric from front waist to back waist, and she looks more comfortable in it than she did in the red strapless dress.

I don't think it was the best choice for a visit to a school, though.

AliceOlive · 10/05/2024 22:52

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 21:42

Well my question was if an official visit can bring about change why can’t a personal one?

What change could possibly be needed there? Why would you criticize this country so unfairly by implying change is needed? Oh wait, I think I know…

Yeah, but are you sure it was love and not just sex, sex and more sex?

ToCoffeeOrNorNotToCoffee · 10/05/2024 20:12

All the photos with Harry and Meghan watching Nigerians performing in front of them look dreadfully colonial. They are too funny, H&M, little self awareness or even media awareness.

Edited

Yes they make me shudder.

IsoldeWagner · 10/05/2024 23:00

upinaballoon · 10/05/2024 22:58

Yeah, but are you sure it was love and not just sex, sex and more sex?

Well, now you mention it....

Reminds me of when M is supposed to have hissed to H that she wanted to go at one of Charles’ garden parties. They left abruptly.

Well they flew first class for a start, and their hotel can’t be cheap.

JSMill · 10/05/2024 23:22

Every pound spent on this trip by Invictus is a pound less spent on veterans. What work did they do for veterans today? They visited a school and Harry shared his wisdom about mental health. Did that further the cause of Invictus?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 10/05/2024 23:28

Having watched on BBC imo It’s a blooming royal tour. How they get away with it I actually don’t know.

I liked the colour of Meghan's dress & from the front but not side or back.
