To continue the discussion.

I thought the comparison with the Duke snd Duchess of Windsor (last post on the previous thread) was interesting.

A visit to a dodgy regime, (Nazi Germany) because they would call Wallis HRH and make it a quasi-royal tour.

Of course, at that point Nazi Germany had a dodgy human rights record, but it was before the horrors of the Holocaust.

Let's face it, with the security and human rights issues there is no way the IG could happen in Nigeria. So that is sn excuse.

Well Harry is certainly getting his security! He will be ecstatic.

@AnnieSF are those real pictures of his security? 😱

How does Meghan get her outfit so wrong everytime, you’d think she would use a stylists on occasions like this (surely she reads the negative press). The dress is so long and being partially backless is inappropriate for the occasion.

Yes, totally inappropriate for a school visit in a conservative country. It's like something you might wear to a beach wedding in California, and not even a great dress for that.

The white suit she's wearing to the Defence Ministry is better, but again she is overdressed given that she's only there as Harry's wife.

Yes. It's pretty obvious that this is a country where military and police rule.

"Significant human rights issues included credible reports of: unlawful and arbitrary killings; forced disappearances; torture and cases of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment by the government; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; arbitrary arrest or detention; serious problems with the independence of the judiciary; arbitrary or unlawful interference with privacy; serious abuses in a conflict, including reportedly unlawful or widespread civilian deaths or harm, enforced disappearances or abductions, torture, and physical abuses or punishment; serious restrictions on free expression and media, including violence or threats against journalists, and enforcement of criminal libel and blasphemy laws to limit expression; serious government corruption; lack of investigation and accountability for gender-based violence, including domestic or intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child, early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation/cutting, and other forms of such violence; instances of coerced abortion or forced sterilization; enforcement of laws criminalizing consensual same-sex sexual conduct between adults; and the existence of the worst forms of child labor."

I'm surprised Meghan in particular is endorsing this country.

AnnieSF · 10/05/2024 16:45

I was surprised by Meghan's outfit. I know it's already been discussed but a backless dress that you have to pick up in order to walk seems a bit odd.

@AnnieSF , it's definitely not a good look !!
Lack of judgment?
Or ignorance about social issues?

Sorry this was in reply to military post !
Although I think the dress was an unwise choice also !

AnnieSF · 10/05/2024 16:54

Looks like the weather is playing havoc with her hair too. It's hard to stay fresh all day in Nigeria.

JSMill · 10/05/2024 16:58

How does Megan get her outfit so wrong every time.
It's baffling. Either she's dressed inappropriate for the occasion or there's something wrong like a label showing or a zip not done properly.
I agree a backless dress is inappropriate for a school. I also don't understand wearing such a muted colour either. Aren't Nigerian ladies known for their colourful outfits? Wouldn't you want to avoid looking dull in comparison? I hate to think of the money she has wasted on awful outfits.

IsoldeWagner · 10/05/2024 17:02

A backless dress visiting a school, really?!
🙄
She's been overdoing the bronzer of late. When she lived in the UK, whoever did her makeup did a good job.
She's also a fan of the fake tan - fine, I do as well, but it's very tricky to apply evenly, and easy to miss something like your back.
I think she needs to get the stylist back that helped her when she was an official royal - Jessica Mulroney? Unfortunately I think she fell out with her.

CoffeeCantata · 10/05/2024 17:02

I agree that the dress is inappropriate in a socially and religiously conservative country - it's quite daring!

I don't like that colour on anyone because from any distance it can look as though you're nude! I've often done a double-take at people who wear either pale peach t-shirts or tight leggings. I really though I was seeing a streaker. OK, Meghan is mixed-race but she is really very pale. I think only people with dark skin can carry off beige and peach successfuly - there needs to be a bit of contrast.

AnnieSF · 10/05/2024 17:06

My pet hate - the seal clapping . Harry has it now too.

What had any of this hot to do with the flipping invictus games. Are they going to look at stadiums? Or any thing being built for the athletes? Or just wear inappropriate clothing to school.

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 17:09

I like the dress although it is a bit long, doesn’t appear to have put people off though as they seem to be getting quite a welcome!

According to DNA testing, she is 43% Nigerian. So no wonder she took the opportunity to travel there.

IsoldeWagner · 10/05/2024 17:11

She could go there on holiday.
Why does it have to be a quasi royal visit?
It's all about the status.

Pollipops1 · 10/05/2024 17:13

how is it a quasi royal visit? They were invited by a general weren’t they?

Because they are royals - very royal indeed, but not representing the HM and UK government on a diplomatic mission/tour.
It's their own version of that.

They were invited by a General, they have met with wounded veterans…and at the same time Meghan has had the opportunity to connect with her ancestral roots.

The Nigerian media are not concerned about her dress.

What exactly is the issue?

iamwhatiam23 · 10/05/2024 17:18

For someone with so much money she manages to look horrendous most of the time! That dress is awful and very inappropriate!

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 10/05/2024 17:18

She’s had an outfit change! A white pant suit by the look of it. I wish she’d be a bit more colourful rather than keeping to the muted tones that she usually sticks to. The other ladies look amazing in their colourful outfits.

Read my posts! 😆
This happens all the time on here. Challenged on something that I never wrote.
very odd

KnickerlessParsons · 10/05/2024 17:19

She probably realised that white will make her stand out from all the coloured outfits.

The Nigerian flag is 🇳🇬 so they seem to be mirroring that.
