Is it true that there was a framed photo of Diana on the bedside table when Meghan gave birth ?

To Archie? I have just read this for the first time as I didn't read Sparse and I found it hard to believe. Isn't that a bit weird? Can you imagine having a photo of your MIL to look at when giving birth ?

That the media wrote about them being circumcised when they were young boys. It was an invasion of their privacy when young. I took it as an example of how invasive (and ridiculous) tabloids can be.

That's fine for illustration/example purposes, but why then did he have to vividly describe the scent of his Mums lip cream on his penis?

Thanks for the excerpts @capitanaamerica. Some things really should remain unsaid. I didn’t know the media wrote about the boys being circumcised @OzzyD. How degrading for them.

He didn’t. He commented that the smell when he opened the tube reminded him off his mum.

It was face cream if I recall correctly.

I don't think you do recall correctly. The quote I read is: "My mum used that on her lips."

I think Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream can be used on all sorts of places and doubtless it can be used as a face cream.
But, you know, if you're going to be pernickety...

Why don’t you read the book? And then you can sort fact from the fictional stories on the internet

I think you’ve misremembered. Harry wrote in Spare, when talking about his “frostnipped todger”:

I’d been trying some home remedies, including one recommended by a friend. She’d urged me to apply Elizabeth Arden cream. I said to my friend 'my mum used that on her lips. You want me to put that on my todger?

I found a tube and the minute I opened it the smell transported me through time. I thought as if my mother was right there in the room and I took a smidge and applied it.. down there

Anyone else read that quote from Spare in Matt Berry’s voice?

As an illustration of press/public invasion of privacy?

Pretty standard advice in US maternity wards, to bring pictures of loved ones, family, important family friends, intended godparents - quite often it's even suggested to bring pictures of pets. The idea is to create a supportive environment for the baby, so that from the first moments they will feel at home and start to know about this new life they're entering (and ease away from memories of a past life, if they still have them). While many would consider it superstitious (and medically unnecessary) now, it once was believed that it also anchors the baby in this life and makes them want to stay, warding off the possibility of the baby being stillborn or dying right after birth. It would be especially likely to have a picture of someone who the child will not see in the first few days - kind of completing the picture for them, in a way.

It seems a bit late to worry about it now, though - Archie's practically shaving, isn't he?

I’m sure my baby couldn’t even recognise his own hands for weeks after the birth, much less so understand what a dog or family was.

My MIL first came to visit carrying a huge metal plate with the face of baby Jesus to put in DS’s cot, as it had been handed down to the first boy for who knows how many generations. Quite puzzling considering they are atheists to boot.

But each to their own…

Yes the smell of 8 hr cream is very distinctive too.
