If she's having chemo I presume it could be many months before we see her. Poor woman.

Williams problem is that he doesn't have Backgrid on speed dial. Or the equivalent.

Or maybe noone is that interested. It doesn't generate the press as many clicks as it does for other articles. You could start a thread on here and it won't reach the 1000 limit like other threads do.

And he needs to pose more with lemons. Preferably grown by a small hydroponic farmer in the Duchy of Cornwall.

Nor does he want to. I think he's playing the long game. Engagements and charities that are meaningful and make a difference. Not just appear, smile and leave, but research, engage, talk to everyone, learn.
He's not doing it for the clicks or the celebrity lifestyle. He's doing it because he has a commitment. Those people at James Place spoke so highly of him on the BBC news, and what a difference his imput made.

BemusedAmerican · 05/05/2024 20:58

I work lots in my job. I don't post photos on social media. I don't have time. I see co-workers do much less than I do but spend lots of time doing social media posts. They get more PR than I do but my work has greater effect.

Edited for typos.

He's not controversial, that's why.

That's the same, isn't it? Superficial imagery, or real impact.

BemusedAmerican · 05/05/2024 21:02

Agreed. The difference between building houses as the first step in trying to end homelessness versus having your driver hand a backpack to a homeless person while you chat in your SUV with a reporter.

IsoldeWagner · 05/05/2024 21:05

Quite!

SluggyMuggy · 05/05/2024 21:07

William does not generate public interest. It is why the press mention Harry and Meghan on so many articles that are supposed to be about William. It is the only way they can generate any interest.

IsoldeWagner · 05/05/2024 21:07

Or going to a homeless centre and speaking to the staff and every single person requiring help and hearing all their stories and staying for an hour longer than scheduled. It still didn't make headlines.

SluggyMuggy · 05/05/2024 21:09

But Anne does get public respect because of the number of engagements she does even though they are far more low key than William's.
William is just a pretty boring balding middle aged man who does a few engagements a week. What is there to interest the public?

ArcaneWireless · 05/05/2024 21:12

Beats the other boring middle aged man picking up aviation awards and looking pained as hell all the time as well as being a figure of constant ridicule I suppose.

Everyone likes a laugh. And that’s why there is the interest.

SluggyMuggy · 05/05/2024 21:16

@ArcaneWireless there are supporters and haters of Harry and Meghan. They generate a lot of public interest. The hardback copy of SPARE was supposed to have made $22 million for Harry. That level of public interest means the media will continue to focus on them.
You can see it on MN. A thread about Harry and/or Meghan will attract far more comments than a thread about William.

ArcaneWireless · 05/05/2024 21:24

Why are you trying to tell me that there are haters of H&M?

And that Spare sold? Mon now. I don’t button up the fucking back.

Arguably the public interest is also because folk see them as objects of ridicule.

And for me, in that respect, they never disappoint.

Why is being bald a factor for criticism? Sounds a bit superficial.
Let me tell you, it's not a characteristic of being boring if you listen to others and hear their stories, particularly the long term homeless and those who have been suicidal. It's very positive and very supportive.

But not attracting or courting interest doesn’t mean that what someone does is not impactful or meaningful. I was literally just watching something about an AIDS nurse who was saying that Diana used to pop in unannounced to see the patients. No fanfare and no press coverage. And not for personal acclaim

Quite. Picking up a pointless award doesn't make for a purposeful life.

SluggyMuggy · 05/05/2024 21:28

@IsoldeWagner that is disgusting! Do not twist my words to pretend that I said homeless people are boring. I said no such thing.
I was talking clearly about William and media interest.
If this is how people behave on this board then I am out.

That's not because Harry has a purposeful and interesting life of service life now is it? It's because he's controversial.

Eh? I never said you said homeless people were boring!!
Don't you twist my words.

Bye then. However. It does help to read posts before you accuse people.

That's what matters, doesn't it? That was her strength.

ArcaneWireless · 05/05/2024 21:33

There is twisting words and reading things that weren’t there in the first place.

Guess which one applies here…

Cheerybye.

Quite. As much a work of fiction as "Spare"!
