So it’s only a problem for you if someone is present while they are being mocked?

She was mocking herself. Not the Queen.

Yes Meghan is so well known for her humour and self depreciation.

I've got the same type of sense of humour/personality I saw in that part of the documentary .
That's how I saw it.

MsVictoria · 18/04/2024 16:48

I'm no Royal fan but I honestly thought Harry had so much to offer and could have made such a difference to this outdated institution.

Having served in the military and launching of his Invictus games, I feel it's such a shame how it's all turned out.

He could have been the change they needed. Hopefully we'll hear less about him and in all honesty, the rest of them too. All the privilege in the world, and they are no better than anyone's dirty laundry.

Let the monarchy die with Queen Elizabeth 2nd.

CoffeeCantata · 18/04/2024 16:48

What did she demand?

Yes, I was wondering that too.
People keep alluding to "bratty behaviour" (such as?) and "demands" but never actually say what she's supposed to have done.

A visit had been arranged to a market in Fiji where M was supposed to meet and chat to stallholders, who were mainly women (and who were excitedly waiting to meet her -it was a big deal for them). M entered the market but very quickly, her mood changed and she ignored the stallholders etc and demanded to be got out of the market immediately. If you watch the film of it, you can see the moment that she says something very tart to an aide and the poor woman looks super-stressed.

Apparently, what happened was: several women from the UN were there and approached M. It was at this point that she panicked and demanded the visit to be jettisoned (PR and diplomatic nightmare, as well as very mean to the ladies in the market) and this is likely to be because she was furious that the UN had rejected her application to become an ambassador (as Emma Watson is). EW had also snubbed M when M asked to meet her about this very subject, and Meghan was said to be hyper-sensitive about the matter.

You can see these blue-t-shirted UN women trying to make contact with her in the market and it's at that point that she freaks out and runs away. The story was put out that M, being pregnant, was too hot/feeling faint. Who am I to say that's not at least partly true? But watch the film of this incident, and you'll see there's a lot more to it than that.

The tall, blonde security woman was later seen sobbing in her car. And you can see she's on the verge of tears in the market. Before anyone says she's a wimp (as implied in another post) please consider that this might have been the final straw which broke the camel's back.

He's left. Good on him. He doesn't owe Britain anything, maybe if the press weren't so vitriolic, he might have stayed, who knows?

CurlewKate · 18/04/2024 16:54

If it's this bit then I really don't understand the horror. Is there more? Do you have to get a Republican to be offended?

I don’t need to know her personally to form an opinion, I form an opinion on her words and actions as we all do, just like you have formed your opinion that she is having a laugh at her own expense, see how it works??

Well he does actually, the state have paid for the majority of his luxury life.

BemusedAmerican · 18/04/2024 17:00

In the past year, much of my job has been spent working with asylum seekers from Africa who have had themselves smuggled into the US in search of a new life. They are looking for jobs, English classes, to be granted asylum, places to live that are not a cot in an overcrowded shelter. Not to mention food.

I see volunteers who give their time and money to help these people without thamks, PR, etc.

Then I read about Harry amd Meghan, who came to the US with more money than I will have in a lifetime but it isn't enough. Who live in a gated community. Who bleat on about service being universal but spend their time making jam and playing polo.

10 people were allegedly bullied and presumably had to sign NDA's. Interesting to see what comes out when they expire.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 18/04/2024 16:59

They're now in another country, trying to make their own money.
Yet people still have a problem?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 18/04/2024 17:02

Well he’s still costing the tax payer a pretty penny so yes I still have a problem.

BemusedAmerican · 18/04/2024 17:03

Instead of shipping them out to Africa to grow tea, they've shipped them to the US to make jam.

Minnimoomin · 18/04/2024 17:08

I've just watched the Fiji market footage. I didn't notice the UN people or see Meghan having sharp words with anyone, but she looked deeply uncomfortable. I wonder if that was the point at which she realised it's actually really hard work to stay serene and look interested in the individual people you're meeting. She looks overwhelmed.

Mylovelygreendress · 18/04/2024 17:23

Geebray · 18/04/2024 16:26

And of course we are supposed to believe that this terribly intelligent woman, who had curtsied as part of her acting role on TV, didn't know how to curtsey...

She took ballet lessons and every ballerina is taught how to curtsy.

Nah - it wasn’t the press that drove him out , it was his peevishness. The late Queen said no so he flounced.

He didn't want to leave, though. That was not the plan.

CurlewKate · 18/04/2024 17:42

Can you provide a clip @CoffeeCantata?

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/04/2024 18:17

They didn’t just escape. They branded an entire country as colonialist and racists. Then they went on to moan about the £32 million wedding they were given by that country- paid for by the horrible colonialist, racist tax payers of that country. Oh, and cried about having to live in a million pound cottage in central London and having to buy IKEA sofas.

THIS is why people in the U.K. dislike them. They have been quite clear what they think about us. So perhaps it is a good thing that they stay in the US.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 18/04/2024 18:22

No, they didn't. They said some of the attitudes and people were like that, not all.
Which it is, you cannot deny that racism is deeply entrenched in society and that colonialism is part of the UKs history.
Why are you taking it so personally and think they're talking about you?
