What ever they produce will be ridiculed and pulled apart. I really don’t know why they persist in flogging a dead horse.

This could be a tad to literal if they intend to show everything that happens in polo

DrJoanAllenby · 12/04/2024 10:16

I read it as 'cooking a polo' and pictured her melting a packet of Polo mints to make a sauce to drizzle over some organic jacket potatoes garnished with acorns etc

CathyorClaire · 12/04/2024 10:54

I hope he resigns from Travalyst.

I'd quite like to see something unpicking Travalyst and telling us what happened to the funds it hoovered up when the Royal Foundation was dissolved.
I'd also quite like to know why Harold's still registered as a UK resident on its 'people' pages.

Then he can do Polo and explain to us all about spurs and the exhausted ponies that have dropped dead after a match.

TheCraicDealer · 12/04/2024 11:17

The cooking/lifestyle show might have legs, but polo? I don’t think you can compare it to either cycling or F1 as those are much more accessible to the general public, either by participation (cycling) or spectating (televised F1). Polo is so niche that beyond people with an interest in horses I just can’t see there being an audience for this.

What does strike me is that the overheads for both these projects are probably quite low compared to say a series (eg., Pearl, Havisham) or film (Meet Me At The Lake), both of which have been previously said to be in development. Perhaps it illustrates the state of their coffers at the moment.

StickyWickets · 12/04/2024 11:47

How embarrassing. I genuinely wonder how long they spent coming up with the ideas for this absolute dross.

I am however, laughing at the emphasis on them launching two 'non-fiction' series at Netflix, unlike the 'pure fiction' content they have previously been known for!

StickyWickets · 12/04/2024 11:54

It's almost as though they obligated to produce two more steams of content for Netflix which neither can be arsed to do. So rather than put any effort into it, they just get Netflix to follow Tim nice but dim, around the Polo circuit and film Meghan pretending to be the ultimate feminist homemaker (whilst their professional cooks, cleaners and gardeners are on their tea break)

YaMuvva · 12/04/2024 12:42

Naaaw they’re just like us aren’t they

Of course there is no racism.....

What's racist about a cookery programme?

FloofCloud · 12/04/2024 12:47

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 11/04/2024 21:32

A cooking show might work out with the right production/presenter/recipes etc.

But I feel Polo might be a bit too niche for the general public.

Not if she does the same methodology as the favourite places where she lived in Canada - she was front and centre the whole time, saw nothing else .... she's all about Me-again ... very 🥱 boring!

KnickerlessParsons · 12/04/2024 12:49

Whatever M&H decide is racist.

YaMuvva · 12/04/2024 12:52

🤣 and I thought that Brooklyn Beckham’s bacon sandwich was bad

Hughs · 12/04/2024 12:57

Thing is with cooking and gardening shows, it's customary to involve people with actual expertise. Either gardeners / chefs present themselves like Monty / Jamie or you have a presenter who talks to them (less usual these days without another element like travelogue or competition but Bake Off is an example of non expert presenters talking to expert contributors). As far as I know, Meghan has no expertise as a chef, gardener or TV presenter, so I don't get what her role would be, if she's actually in it.

And the celebrating friendship and entertaining sounds like that annoying table of people next to you in the restaurant, who talk a bit too loud because they think they're super interesting and/or hilarious.

FloofCloud · 12/04/2024 13:03

FFS with the Grandma Markle Apple bollocks ... PLEASE don't tell me she's now planning on sharing g Markle family recipes ... use, abuse then use again til every last drop of money can be wrung out 😵‍💫

AliceOlive · 12/04/2024 13:09

I’d make apple butter toast. Sounds like something on a brunch menu.

I think it’s good they are coming out with some content that isn’t about complaining or bashing other people. Maybe SS can focus their energies on cooking and recipes now and stop trying to shut up the entire internet.

My Mom just told me she will not watch any YouTube how-to videos anymore if the person shows their face. “Because it’s all about them, not the topic.”

But I think that works here. Meghan has followers that adore her and want to support her, even pledging to spend their money to do so. She Is beautiful and has a nice voice. She can make this work.

Wise woman. That's what I liked about The Hairy Bikers. Their cookery shows were always about the food, the ingredients and the people they met. Never about them.

AliceOlive · 12/04/2024 13:22

Here’s the toast video

Meghan seems like she’s changed since the Suits days. Do you think it’s possible she’s lost herself entirely with her life changing so dramatically?

@AliceOlive She was pushy in that toast video you linked and she is equally pushy in her appearances as duchess. The only difference is that she dresses horribly these days. I'm not a clothes person and I am constantly struck by how she can't dress for her body type.

IamaRevenant · 12/04/2024 13:47

I'm not saying they're in any way the same but this seems about as ill advised as the cookery show by Nick Griffin, former leader of the BNP.

(If you haven't watched it, do. Unintentionally ridiculous and self indulgent/posturing as I'm sure this will be).

Vespanest · 12/04/2024 13:54

I’d of hoped the cooking would be inline with the charity that brings refugees together through cooking, I’m not sure it would be huge in viewers numbers but deemed a success in a philanthropy way. But that doesn’t go with expensive jam and cookware as it would be crass.

Geebray · 12/04/2024 13:57

Re the cooking, I reckon she'll latch on to community kitchens and charities. Like she did with that Grenfell community kitchen. Lots of "friendship" and diversity.

I mean, imo that's what she should do if she's clever. Not waft around a beige kitchen in Montecito.

But I'm not sure how community kitchens would knit in with ARO.

Ha ha, we cross posted more or less the exact same thing!

The only polo programming that people on here want to watch is Riders on Disney plus.

This is the soft content that they should have done in the first place instead of Oprah etc

The celebrity cooking market is over saturated but there will be some interest if Meghan uses her own kitchen and the kids are used tactically so that the like of the Daily Mail analyse each episode like they did with Archetypes. Netflix had a Paris Hilton cooking show and she’d invite celebrity guests like Kim Kardashian so going down that route is also a possibility. (In my defence, I turned off Paris a couple of minutes after Kim arrived at her house so don’t know what happened next )
