I still liked her then and was interested in following her and Harry as working royals. I thought, oh she's pregnant, it was hot and crowded, she probably suddenly felt dizzy or nauseous and needed to sit down.

I wonder what the Queen had to say about it. It was a Commonwealth tour and H&M were representing her, weren't they.

The Real Housewives would eat her alive

God yes.

Yes, and you know what?
She never moaned about it or presented herself as a victim.

Harry said that it was after that tour that things went sour with his family. I wondered if they felt that Meghan and possibly Harry hadn't behaved all that well. They were probably privy to information the public weren't aware of - stuff that happened behind the scenes and staff who were upset.

IsoldeWagner · 13/04/2024 15:20

He said a lot of things. He likes to blame his family, it's a pattern.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/04/2024 15:23

Later to discover that Meghan has a vendetta against the UN because they didn't make her an ambassador makes it even more sad

Whether this is true or not, why on earth would the UN make her an ambassador?

As with national ambassadors the role requires a LOT of experience and diplomatic skills, and claiming you're "in with them" because you met someone briefly or made a word salad speech to some meeting doesn't count

Harry said that it was after that tour that things went sour with his family

On one of his interviews - I can't remember which one - Harry suggested the family were "jealous" because they couldn't stand a newcomer being better at the job than they were

Edited

It also requires quite a lot more fame than Meghan had...

IsoldeWagner · 13/04/2024 15:27

@Puzzledandpissedoff - now where did Harry get such a ludicrous idea from?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/04/2024 15:28

True enough, @Geebray

I suppose, had they behaved differently, Meghan just might have got such a job later on the back of her being married to Harry, but unfortunately that ship has probably sailed

Now where did Harry get such a ludicrous idea from?

The drugs?? Hmm

IsoldeWagner · 13/04/2024 15:30

Harry doesn't seem to have a grasp on reality.

I can well believe that others were jealous. Charles was famously jealous of Diana.

There's no evidence that anyone was jealous of Meghan and Harry.

How do we know this?

shenandoahvalley · 13/04/2024 16:34

I can well imagine that the W&K household was peeved at the sparkling, gold dust attention M&H got around the time of the wedding. Media hype was insane then, and Kate and William looked positively middle aged and staid next to them. I can well imagine employees paid to promote W&K were annoyed that nothing they did could get the spotlight back into W&K. That could well have filtered back to Harry and Meghan, and in Harry’s mind have become “they’re jealous of us! We only have to exist for us to outshine them! Meghan’s amazing! We should be the future King & Queen, we are the ones the public adore, we are the ones saving the monarchy and dragging it into the 21st century!”. Meanwhile, Meghan was working her sunshine sachs connections in the background, not the slightest interest in any of it…

PublicAnnouncement · 13/04/2024 16:41

So all imagined?

IcedPurple · 13/04/2024 16:44

Actually I doubt it bothered them. Neither Kate nor William seem like the attention seeking type. Quite the opposite. Kate was on maternity leave or pregnant around the time Megan came on the scene, so she wouldn't have been seen much anyway.

Also, they will have known that Meghan and Harry were currently the big thing. An attractive American actress marrying the 'fun' prince on a sunny day in May, and a baby soon on the way. Of course they were going to get all the attention. But that would pass. William and Kate were still going to be King and Queen no matter how transiently popular Harry and Meghan were. The royals play the long game. Or at least some of them do.

Was that the same tour where Meghan allegedly threw a cup of tea at a member of staff !

I doubt this very much, both William and Catherine appear to be measured, level headed people and would have fully expected the media glare and praise that came with the wedding, they would also know what goes up must come down having experienced the highs and lows of media attention themselves. As for them looking staid and positively middle aged compared to Meghan and Harry that’s just your opinion, personally I find Kate and William far more youthful and engaging, joining in sports and events on public occasions, not caring what they look like, having a laugh, having fun and clearly enjoying each other’s company and not feeling the need to hang off each other posing and looking for any available camera, William and Kate are authentic and it really shows.

Salemforcuddles · 13/04/2024 17:06

I don't think they looked middle aged at all. Elegant, understated and unassuming then yes

OneHeartySnail · 13/04/2024 17:09

Ì can imagine some irritation if there is a gap between the public image and behind the scenes bullying.

I have a colleague who is front and centre with work that gets them seen by senior leadership. When it comes to taking a turn on the unglamorous and boring shared tasks she has endless excuses. Of course it is irritating!

But I don't react to it. The truth will emerge (it already is...)

I think 'emotionally mature' rather than middle aged. But I suppose it is a cultural gap - it gets read differently in the USA, which presumably is H&M's target market these days. What works in the USA looks 'inauthentic' here.

And so on.

I think their big mistake was 'hit the ground running', and assuming that behaviour that works in the US would work in the UK.

They could have taken a low profile and started a family, worked out the UK scene wasn't for them, and moved with a lot of goodwill. And KC3 would probably still be handing over big cheques.

I doubt very much whether W&C were the slightest bit jealous of H&M!
W&C understand their roles, it's never about them, they act with dignity and they've never indicated any tendency to want attention for themselves.

This is Kate in Erdem at her first engagement after having Louis, during the period when she was supposedly 'jealous' of Meghan. Staid and middle aged? I don't think so. It's maybe my favourite day time look of hers.

I should add that there's nothing wrong with looking 'middle aged' if that's what you are. I guess you could say that all of the 'Fab 4' are now middle aged. There's only 3 years between them all, with Meghan being the oldest by a few months, so it seems odd to use 'middle aged' as some sort of veiled insult.
