What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

I don't know whether this is too controversial a topic for such a thread to be allowed to stand. But I post in good faith on a topic I believe has a lot of social and political relevance.

Does the "Sussex Squad" actually exist? If so, how do you join? If not, do people ever identify as belonging to it?

If it exists, was it hijacked by SarahData and Bouzy or was it their creation? And, if so, to what extent?

Thanks in advance.

What love? Do you still not understand memes?

Runnerinthenight · 21/04/2024 23:42

@Nono22972 I cannot understand the hate against Catherine! What on earth is she supposed to have done, other than not take Meghan shopping?!!

Runnerinthenight · 21/04/2024 23:47

Sagharbor · 21/04/2024 21:40

Well said.

Those dog whistles have become so rampant, stepping away from it all for one's wellbeing is essential.

Good luck.

What a load of utter tosh!!!

Vitriol is vitriol, whether directed at you, me, Meghan or Kate.

There was much worse directed at Kate, imho, when she clearly wasn't well.

Meghan and Harry's poor behaviour leaves them open to criticism, which is not "vitriol". William and Kate on the other hand have put up, shut up and done their duty.

IsoldeWagner · 22/04/2024 06:03

If you criticise a person's behaviour, what they say about others - completely unsubstantiated and very unpleasant - in chat shows, podcasts, magazine articles, Netflix, etc etc, that's not vitriol, nor is it hate. It's challenging and questioning their agenda of negativity and self aggrandisiment.
Spreading and repeating vile rumours about an ill person who has never behaved in that way certainly is vitriol. Thread after thread. Totally different.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 22/04/2024 07:01

Criticism is not hate or vitriol.

themessygarden · 22/04/2024 07:06

Oh I see some are back, following the original playbook, same old terminology thrown around in an effort to derail and shut down commentary. 🙄🙄🙄

Vespanest · 22/04/2024 07:08

I don’t mind Meghan, I’m not white but Harry has made 10s of millions by discussing and disclosing of his and his families lives so he and people who support him don’t get to close the book because it paints him negatively, that his truth is unreliable and that he still makes money doing the same. He’s a manchild and a gift that keeps giving. The calling it dog whistle racism whilst ignoring this is Harry we are talking about is actually quite strange as I would lay money on it the accusations of rape in a charity he’s involved with was white or western woman he’d of spoken up.

As I said, classic SS playbook

The new script.

SS all left because of the vitriol directed at them.

And the, ahem, dog-whistling.

@Sagharbor

Are you a member of the Sussex Squad?

If not, why not?

At least they've found a word to replace hate, all the gods be praised. Wonder how long before 'vitriol' is done to death.

you've missed the point.. H&M have said repeatedly NO ONE should have to "put up" and "shut up" when it comes to the gutter press. No one should have to earn the right to be left alone by the papers.

Vitriol, my hairy hole!

Did you see what was directed at Catherine?!!!

why are these anti-Sussex posters always so vulgar..

When did they say that?
When did they speak up for William and Kate when all the vitriol was in full flood?

Vespanest · 22/04/2024 09:58

harry and Meghan are the media, what’s the difference in selling stories to the gutter press and selling stories to the highest bidder. Oh it’s just their privacy that matters

Sagharbor · 21/04/2024 21:18

You mean Celebitchy is as pro-Meghan as mumsnet is anti-Meghan?

MN calls out a woman who is something of a grifter, user and social climber, shitting on everyone below her. What’s wrong with that?

No one here is hateful or delights in her suffering or calls for her to be killed. It’s nothing like celebitchy

YaMuvva · 22/04/2024 10:21

Mylovelygreendress · 21/04/2024 21:32

I always found that most of the vitriol came from H and M supporters especially the repeated allegations of racism.
I do think it is strange that so many formerly frequent posters have vanished .

It’s interesting isn’t it

At one point you couldn’t say a single thing remotely critical - such as “What was that nonsense about the Archbishop marrying them before the wedding poor Justin could have got into trouble” without being accused of racism. And they were always on, like they had a job looking for these posts and responding to them

Runnerinthenight · 21/04/2024 21:34

Yep

Sussex Squad saying she’s dead, a DV victim in hiding, that the video was AI, that she’s lying about having cancer and that if she DID have cancer chemo is no reason to stop work 🙄

Easipeelerie · 22/04/2024 10:30

I have no axe to grind and have had very little interest in this thread till today. I’m baffled about why anyone thinks M and H are particularly bad people. They seem pleasant enough to me.
The media interviews, in part, have been ill-judged and they seemed naive about what the media would choose to focus on following them (you can’t criticise the royal family and not expect huge backlash).
Generally though, I see no reason to go on and on about this couple.

YaMuvva · 22/04/2024 10:31

Sagharbor · 21/04/2024 21:41

Vitriol is vitriol, whether directed at you, me, Meghan or Kate.

But is it vitriol to discuss poor behaviour?
Personally I think not

LaMarschallin · 22/04/2024 10:32

MrsDanversGlidesAgain

With luck it's in its death throes already.
The wretched word had a moment in the sun a while back and took as long to die then as a ham actor in a tragedy.
I suppose when the keys are being hammered and the spittle's flying, there's not much brain space left to consider synonyms.
(I love that those sort of posts so often end "lol" or "lollll" or 😂 etc when laughing is obviously the last thing that's going on.)

Mylovelygreendress

I wonder what the new “ frothing” will be?

A while back there was a fashion for suggesting mobs with flaming torches and pitchforks were after H&M, frothing all the while.
I did suggest that that wouldn't be practical as the frothing was likely to extinguish the flaming torches.

IsoldeWagner · 22/04/2024 10:35

It's not about them being bad people, it's about their actions and statements as very public figures (their choice). I don't think their behaviour is "ill judged and naive". I think it's calculated to self promote and gain wealth.
By using royal titles and connections, yet being highly critical of the royals.
