What exactly is "the Sussex Squad"?

I don't know whether this is too controversial a topic for such a thread to be allowed to stand. But I post in good faith on a topic I believe has a lot of social and political relevance.

Does the "Sussex Squad" actually exist? If so, how do you join? If not, do people ever identify as belonging to it?

If it exists, was it hijacked by SarahData and Bouzy or was it their creation? And, if so, to what extent?

Thanks in advance.

Dear god, that nasty swiping about Kate's hair... just cruel.

IsoldeWagner · 06/04/2024 20:20

It sounds like a cult, @Turtlerussell .

I am amazed that this thread is still standing . And even more amazed that the Sussex supporters haven’t swooped in !

That is my point with this post - where are they, who are they, how do they operate, is their SM presence controlled and scripted, do they share an agenda, or are they just a bunch of superfans who have nothing to do with the stuff Wootton is writing about?

The other thing the SS have is a disturbing influence on social media platforms. A number of pro RF/critical to H&M YouTubers have been de-platformed and/or de-monetised, including shadow banning. People have been doxxed. One YouTuber claimed both her house and her mother's house were burned down following her doxxing. This stuff is really disturbing.

IsoldeWagner · 06/04/2024 20:33

I can't believe Harry had the nerve to do that, re Mary Simon.

It’s a mystery ….

Totally out of character for the individuals I recall, too.

They had no limit to their imagination in coming up with excuses, scenarios, reasons to explain away inconvenient facts, bad behaviors, blatant lies
.. Odd that that faculty seems to have deserted them all.

Hoisted by their own petard- had they not gone in as hard as they did on Kate then perhaps the backlash wouldn’t have been as bed. But they just couldn’t resist sticking the boot in and using the opportunity to spread hate and lies. It really revealed their whole operation for anyone to see. It was such a big news story that lots of people paid attention room and began to notice the odd posting patterns. And they they stuck around to see the aftermath too.

I would always say that kindness is its own reward and nastiness is its own punishment. Karma is a bitch indeed

The SS person known online as "Sarah Data" is, according to Dan Wooten, a lawyer at Google. This article from 2019 features some of the other people - perfectly ordinary sounding people - describing themselves as the Sussex Squad.

It's all part of the often asked question: how do ordinary, nice enough people become active players in mobs/heinous regimes?

Meet #SussexSquad, the army of strangers supporting Duchess Meghan

Members of the Sussex Squad come from all over the world and unite online.

A cultish mindset plays a big part, imo.

I found it weird when I noticed they posted to the same tune, and one slipped up and mentioned they talked off board - so presumably agree a strategy. The fact that not one is posting now definitely tells me they act as a group and not differently and severally. Very revealing - and, as I said, very weird!

I can’t remember the thread but a Sussex supporter said “ we left you all to it” when explaining absence . Definitely suggested an off board discussion.
Curiouser and curiouser.

You could say that about hundreds of the posts on here the last few months.

Interesting use of the word 'need' there, though.

Some people just don't see when they're defeating their own argument.

Spectre8 · 06/04/2024 21:45

Maybe people are busy now the weather is better. I for one have barely been on here now it's stopped raining, aside form work, it's movies nights, drinks after work, I spent 5hrs cleaning the driveway today and the gardening has started up too.

So I haven't had much time to post but specifically on the RF board ill be barely pn here after someone decided I was a Sussex squad member and refused to believe me when I said I wasn't. I'm not here for personal attacks or be told I'm associated with some group I'd never heard of until then.

So for some you wondering why some posters aren't posting anymore...well I'm not really for those reasons

So as you were with your conversation, have fun with them.
