Honestly as a cancer sufferer I think that proud is an odd word.

You just get on and do it.
She is lucky that she has access to the best medical care

I dont feel proud of myself
Or proud of my DH who has had cancer twice - one of which was very rare and from which he will Never get an all clear
Or proud of my DF who has terminal cancer

It is just part of life and you get on with it.

So he should be she’s a superstar. Best thing William ever did was marry Catherine. Come on POW you’ve got this.

What a load of twaddle. Kate has cancer, just like gazillions of others. Shes no more special than any of them.

I took it to mean that he is proud of her courage in making that video. I've lost two close friends to cancer, one was the age Kate is now. Neither had to satisfy a baying public and media by talking about these private matters for all and sundry to view. Maybe that's what he meant.

I hate to point out the obvious, but he knows her personally.

Well he is hardly going to come out and say he doesn't support her, I mean it's pretty much a given really. Just like many other families would be of their loved ones with cancer.

He hasn’t said he’s proud she has cancer!

He’s proud of her courage.

It did take courage to be filmed on her own speaking about something very personal after having chemo, knowing the video will be watched around the world, scrutinised and spoken about…who else has had to do that!

Most people don't have to tell the world and sit and explain themselves and their private medical information though, do they.

And do it in person instead if holing up and hiding away and letting the pr staff deal with it.

The quote from the BBC is cut off and changes the meaning a bit. Elsewhere
it was reported that he was "so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did" about her diagnosis.

I do think she showed courage in the way she spoke out and I believe it will calm things down.

She was a superstar before she was diagnosed, and she’ll be a superstar once she’s better.

The threads about this seem almost cultish (not quite sure what I mean- setting her up as a saint maybe)

We all probably know a 40 year old woman who has had cancer, and by the time women get to 50 then it is very common.

Getting cancer is part of everyday life. Let's not turn her into some kind of goddess. It is sad- as it is when anyone gets cancer, but it is what it is.
It doesnt make her a superstar.

She has had a lot to deal with, as well as the cancer - which itself is following the surgery she had in January. She has been forced almost to make the announcement - and he is probably proud of the strength of character she is showing (in private as well), in the face of unavoidable public scrutiny.
It's a shame that people feel the need to sneer at even this.

Yes, I thought it was touching, and I took his meaning to be that he thought she was handling the public side of it well.

I do agree, when you are diagnosed, you get on with it - what else is there ? I too got a lot of ‘atta girl’ & ‘proud of you’ comments from family, but to be honest I was just putting one foot in front of the other and doing as advised.

The nurses, doctors and amazing pharmacologists deserved the praise.

But 💐for Kate and everyone else dealing with it. Scary times.

I've always found their relationship touching. You hear and we experience ourselves so much involving warring in-laws, that is just seems so special when people, who could have been complete strangers in life, grow to love each other so much on that parent/child sort of level. I always love reading on here posters' experiences with in-laws they love, and I love my own very much. I know not everyone is so fortunate. I hope Charles and Catherine can help each other through their respective cancer diagnoses, and continue their lovely bond for many years to come.

That is true
It is sad that she had to make an announcement

It was very hard to do this ( to a much smaller audience) as employer wanted people to know. Much easier to do to friends and family.

But once done it was over and move on.

I was proud of the way my mum, dad, sister, brother in law, other brother in law and several colleagues all dealt with their cancer. I’m sure King Charles is proud of how she is dealing with hers, and managing the three kids (who must be really scared for their mum). What’s wrong with him saying this? Chemo is brutal.
