I agree with most of the posters above.

You all seem to forget this is a public forum, one of the largest in the UK, and this continuous speculation, critiquing photoshopped photos and gossip around the poor woman will have been noticed by Kensington Palace & would have, in part, be the reason there has been this tragic statement having to be given today.

I’m in no way a royalist by any means, but she is a vulnerable woman with young children who needs support from us, picking apart every photo, KP post and setting the ghastly rumour mill in action is the antithesis of any support.

Some of you need to hang your bloody heads in shame.

I wish her & her family, the very best.

And that we’re not all ravenous ghouls waiting for crumbs of info to satisfy their idle curiosities.

I seriously doubt they're basing their opinions based on a few mumsnet threads when Kate has been on the front page of newspapers around the world and has been constantly trending on Twitter for about 6 weeks.

Also this post:

'You really think the hounding and stalking on here will stop? It won't, because now the same people will be wanting to know every minute detail about the stage it's at, about the prognosis and every other little detail. Because they're sad people with sad lives....'

Discussing the royal family on a forum, particularly when they're in the news, is not 'hounding and stalking.' She HAS been hounded and stalked, by the press, probably some nutjob randomers and even staff at the hospital where she had her treatment.

Can everyone try to get a grip of themselves.

I haven't seen any attacks on the princess of Wales, just more inciteful people than me, realising things weren't quite as they seemed, and to be fair to them they were right.
But it is a very sad story and sad that Kate has been made to feel that she owes us information.

Luckily, you've just missed them. Some posters have been GLEEFUL in attacking her for 'fake photos and videos', speculating she's suicidal, fighting with her husband's mistress and so many other things. Actual hate and entitlement, demanding to know what's going on.

Like, congratulations, she has cancer, do you want a medal for your conspiracy theory bullshit? [Not you, you].

I actually almost tagged one of the worst offenders but decided to be a better person than she/he is.

EmilyPlay · 22/03/2024 19:30

There were fake photos though. A bit of honesty was needed really. Sad though it is.

'It's major news, people are going to want to discuss it.'

Of course they will. It's the snotty attitudes from people scolding anyone who wants to discuss it that I object to.

Laughingsadlyandquietly · 22/03/2024 19:34

Looking at how clearly unwell she is in the video she released I don't blame her for doing some Photoshop or releasing an older photo. Breaking news, their Christmas card photo is never taken at Christmas either

Who are you talking to?

Instead of another vulturish thread, write to the Sun, the Daily Mail et al.

The daily mail, as much as I hate them, have been one of the few news outlets that have supported the royals and defended the "she will be back at Easter" stance.

No it doesn't make sense. It just makes me wonder why they tried to fool us all again.

If you were going through chemo would you want an untouched photo being released to the international press knowing how they love to pick holes in your appearance?

@EmilyPlay do you know how much cancer affects your appearance, and how this can make you feel? Imagine that, then the media scrutinising it. Have some empathy.

Are you honestly, truly telling me that (even if you’d never say it out loud) you have not even had a second thought about what cancer she’s been diagnosed with? It’s certainly nobody’s business as much as Charles’s cancer but it’s absolutely natural to wonder. Enough information has been given for passing speculation as it is.

Yes, I can honestly and truly tell you that I have not had a second thought about what cancer she's been diagnosed with nor have I had any first, second or third thoughts about what surgery she underwent because her medical issues are none of my fucking business just as mine are none of hers or anyone else's.

'It's major news, people are going to want to discuss it.'

Of course they will. It's the snotty attitudes from people scolding anyone who wants to discuss it that I object to.

This. The faux naive ‘I don’t understand why anyone is interested…’ is laughable. She’s our future Queen and Princess of Wales - she’s taken on a very prominent constitutional role and I’m sure she’s well aware this naturally means the public will be interested, even if others can’t seem to wrap their head around it.

Yes there has been some very cruel speculation but I saw an equal number of posts by people either just mildly curious or quite concerned about her - all to be expected when somebody in such a position retreats from the spotlight for quite a long time with scant explanation.

I don’t think she was forced to do the video address, it was inevitable - she isn’t going to return as they said after Easter, she will likely be out of action for months if not a year, and that was always going to need clarifying.

I think a lot of the outrage is phoney, by people who love to ‘be on the right side’ and feel lime 5* better people than everyone else. Willing to bet most of them were also pretty curious as to what was going on.

Wish her all the best in her recovery but those of you foaming at the mouth about the speculation are either shockingly naive or very disingenuous.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 23/03/2024 09:51

@MeinKraft

Unfortunately, a simple google to find statistics on user clicks and reach shows the figures. From Mumsnet’s own ‘Advertise with us’ page;

8 million unique visitors per month
Over 8 million user posts per year
1.2 Billion page views per year

And they themselves state in the introduction;

“In 2023, Mumsnet celebrates 23 years of being the most trusted, and most influential website for parents in the UK.”

https://www.mumsnet.com/i/advertising

That’s a hefty size for a dedicated user forum.

Then we have the Daily Mail Femail page. We’ve seen many posts that have been snaffled & published in the Daily Mail, but I was astonished to find a DEDICATED MUMSNET WIDGET at the header of the Femail home page below;

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/mumsnet/index.html

She has also, in the past, been rumoured to be a user here, though I’m taking that with a pinch of salt if I’m honest.

And don’t forget, the many multiple PoW threads have dominated the ‘Active Thread’ in the last fortnight, let alone the plethora of active threads within the dedicated Royal Family. KP would only need a quick root around there to gauge the interest in Kate’s absence/the photoshopped pictures/suspicion and downright conspiracy theories that have been wafted around on here recently.

So yes, Kensington Palace will be very aware of the Kate hounding and thousands of posts surrounding the Princess’s absence.

And this is also why I’d never start a thread based on personal information since the Daily Mail have the morals of a skunk and I don’t fancy my predicaments bandied around for the DM to splash across their dreadful rag.

Now leave her the fuck alone!
Now leave her the fuck alone!

Very well said @Nanny0gg I think people forget that these are real peoples lives that they are treating like a soap opera. There are quite a few mumsnet posters who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

I would hope, though, that anyone in her position knows perfectly well that there are always going to be memes "out there" that bear no relation to them or the reality of their life. A bit like the ones about Harry being stupid and Meghan being evil. The press toy around with the Royal Family like cheap puppet theatre; members of the public do the same. We don't know these people and will never meet them, yet we "see" them constantly, so their place in our lives is always going to be somewhat dream-like.
